Leaking shocks : remedy ?
 

Seems like a stupid question because I drive AE cars for ages, but is there any ANY way to stop the shocks from leaking at the bottom seals ? I'm getting a bit tired of changing the O-rings every race.

I can't say ive ever experienced them leaking to be honest. Do you have all the correct spacers in ? ok ok, im not calling you thick! I just bought a 2nd hand rtr car for myself and it had a spacer missing from all the shocks.

You could try building the shocks with the associated green slime stuff and be VERY careful when putting the seals in on the shocky tool, they are really easy to damage.


At the end of the day the AE shocks do need rebuilding often with new seals if you want the best from them, but as for leaking - not really experienced this myself.

try using green slime,;)

you can also use the aftermarket o rings by MIP,they are a hot item where i race.personally mine have never leaked but a few of the guys at the track have had problems in the past.

Thanks guys. It's not that they leak like the stock ZX5 shocks did, but they start "sweating" oil at the seals rather fast compared to the Losi schocks. They are OK for 20 runs or so, then i replace the O-rings.

I use green slime and unobtanium shafts. I heard somewhere you have to lightly sand the white plastic spacers since they put to much pressure on the o-rings. Other sources on the other hand say you have shim the seals to put more pressure on the o-rings. :confused:

I know what you mean, i bought threaded shock boddies to put on my RTR B4 and built them up using green slime and new O rings and spacer kit. Fantastic for about 3 / 4 meetings then you start to see the bottom of the shock full of dust and dirt sticking to the oil that has come from the shock. ?????? i dont know why this happens but when you look for a leak there isnt one.

I guess its just a case of keeping on top of cleaning and topping up shock oil.

Do you race on sand alot if so the sand could be braking up the o-rings Mine always used to leake but a bit of Phil Channon magic did the trick i dont know what he did cus i was marchalling for him.

A
