More speed please
I wanted to try and increase the top speed of this set-up
Ansmann X2C Reedy 450 ESC Turnigy saddle lipo's 7.4v EasyRun 4000kv 8.5T Victory Motor 20T Gear on the motor I'm thinking the best way may be to simply put a bigger gear on the motor? Maybe a 22T or 24T or would that be no good? This is for the Coventry Astro track with quite a long straight - the car is not slow but once upto speed you are flat out and then have to kind-of wait for the next corner, I was thinking if the car could keep accelerating it would be a bit more entertaining - not sure if it would actually reduce the lap times though. I know people seem to use motors with less turns for more speed and those motors will have less torque but wouldn't that be the same as putting a bigger gear on a motor with more turns? Anyway I think gears would be cheaper that motors to experiment a bit. |
Assuming the motor is not already getting hot, then gearing up (bigger pinion or smaller spur) is the easiest way to get more speed.
I don't know the track, and you seem to be running sensorless which is a bit different to most racers, but a 20T pinion seems rather small for an 8.5 in a 2WD. Go up a tooth at a time, checking temps and performance. |
Has your esc got a `timing` or `boost` feature. If so cant you use that for the main straight. My setup has Ezrun esc and a 4300kv motor and i keep up easily with other members of our club. Just not got the skills on the bends to keep with them. Also that option is free.
