Mamba Max vs Novak GTB

Hi Guys

I am going to get a brushless setup for my kyosho lazer zx-5 but am struggling to decide between a novak GTB of mamba max system.

I am very tempted by the mamba max but do you think a 7700Kv motor will be too powerful for the buggy. I am guessing here but i think this works out as about a 5 - 5.5 turn motor and would produce 46200rpm on 6 cells.

The next size down is a 5700kv motor which is about a 7.5 - 8 turn motor and would produce 34200rpm on 6 cells.

Finally there is the novak systems which have more options:
Turn speed KV
3.5 10,500
4.5 9,000
5.5 7,400
6.5 6,400
7.5 5,800

Which system do you think would be best suited for the ZX5 and whats the fastest motor you would risk?

Cheers

Trev

I use the Novak 5.5 in my X10.

I have used the Novak but never actually seen the Mamba. I had a look at it on the website and I have to say i'd go for the Novak if it was a choice between the two. The Mamba looks more basher oriented - but maybe I am wrong.

unfortunately you are matey hehehe, I have a mamba max, which is aimed squarley at the racing scene, its super effiecient, ballistically fast, but smooth, good acceleration, and good braking, and its good value, with software to connect it to your laptop or PC and adjust settings. ( which i'll be doing at gtcc this sat :-D)

Chris Doughty 19-09-2006 12:26 PM

is it BRCA, ROAR, IFMAR, or EFRA legal?

DCM 19-09-2006 12:28 PM

Mamba isn't, the Novak and LRP/Reedy ones will be.

jimmy 19-09-2006 12:36 PM

Don't get me wrong the Mamba looks good, but the review on there is squarely aimed at "bashers". I want to know what it is like for racing and how it compares to a brushed motor for feel.

The review compares it to other brushless runing 8 cells and stuff, thats not racing thats insanity.:p

jimmy 19-09-2006 12:39 PM

I see the Mamba is sensorless - does anyone have any real world experience comparing this to a good established car system like the LRP or Novak ?

Do sensored motors work with sensorless controllers (but not the other way round obviously) ?

BenG 19-09-2006 12:44 PM

Unsure of tht one matey, I'll be using it at GtCC this saturday though, so I'll report my findings, in a 2wd buggy I found it to be insane;)

jimmy 19-09-2006 12:53 PM

insane aint good in a 2wd buggy! haha. but then, the lrp 3* i have at home would likely be too much for a 2wd also.

BenG 19-09-2006 01:36 PM

You're right there, for once, *insane* is actually rather bad :o, it makes one hard to handle buggy:D In fact, I nearly killed a chav, and almost dented a corsa SXI when it went out of control :D:o

Speed is nothing with out control! :D

The problem that comes up with sensor less is some times when
you need to be smooth on a slipery track.
It some times dont know where the rotor is and you can feel like it is
laging ore like a interferance.

I switched to BL this summer and i love it!
The LRP Competition Sphere is soo good it has the best mid range i ever come across
I had some problems in the Euros coming out of the hairpins it didnt
fell as smooth as i whant it and it had a tedency to get the rear end to slide out.
But with the new SW set up that LRP had it got super smooth and i still had
ton of speed.

Hi all I use a mamba max esc and 5700kv motor which is like 3.5 (so it says) turn motor and must say its the best combo I have ever had in my stadium truck (Ive had a few)

1. you can set esc on pc to any needs you require
2. so smooth on power and control
3. my lipos last longer on running times
4. great drag and breaking adjustments
5. great for racing due the myriad of adjustments
5. when you just want to show nitro heads whos the daddy
6. 5700 is better than 7700 in every way

I wont have no other

4 year old thread...

A 3.5 would be utterly useless in a race buggy.

Are you sure ??? all I know is that with 7.4 lipo or if ya need more power and speed 11.1 lipo my truck kiks the asses out of 1/8 nitro buggies:thumbsup: and as the esc has lots of settings like I say you can tame the pull off power as well as the top end so castle mm is not that useless, just more power than what you need, lucky you can set it up as required good old castle

There is a reason why the common motors in 2WD are 6.5/7.5 and 5.5/6.5 in 4WD. Our cars are as fast as they'll ever need to be and potentially faster than most people can manage round a track. Bashing is a completely different kettle of fish.
I'm talking 10th off road by the way.

GIRLYPANTS 02-08-2010 11:05 PM

I love 10th off roader just a few adjustments and its a road car,
stadium trucks are my flavour, bashing is free unless you crash and you can have ya car how ya want to, tho if you want to race a good fully programable esc/motor is needed so you can set up for the conditions of track, castle make gear just perfect for this.

Few good friends with bashing cars one bmx track or cones and a b&q car park lol = fun for free

sounds just like your typical truck basher

5700 is equal to a 3.5 turn motor - bollocks!

have a look at this motor kv chart from novak & you'll see that the volociti 7.5R has the same rating as your motor & we use hotter than that in our 2wd's!

http://www.teamnovak.com/products/br...spec_chart.htm

plus i actually have a Mamba max with a 7700 & i can't think of any way that a 5700 is better. apart from being slower & easier to drive

so a 7700 can handle 11.1 v 3s lipo or 12s nimh bolloxs can it
5700 has more torque and revs with a 3s lipo than a 7700 with an all it can take 2s / 8s mimh
also it says on motor 5700kv - 3.5t does the t stand for tit
deep breath

off - road t4 / rustler /xxx - t with a 7700kv maxed out with a tiny 2s lipo 14-19t pinion and largest spur 50+mph

off - road t4 / rustler / xxx - t with 5700kv maxed out with a bigger as it can handle it (tho gets a bit hot lol) 3s lipo 13-17t pinion and largest spur 60+mph

5700kv in my 2wd stadium truck with the right gearing and lipos kiks ass, what I like is that there is alot of adjustments I can do on the esc from a pc, the software is so easy to use and under stand, and the best thing is its great fun to play with.

This is 1 of many rc big boys toys I got as Id sooner spend my money (what little I have) on sh?t hot rc toys and upgrades than exstortional season tickes, track days and spares ect
Bashing is best done with good m8s with same set up on a bmx track ect..or if ya got a road car some b&q car park with some traffic cones or chalk ect to mark the track out
