New Serpent 2wd 1/10th buggy coming

Just saw this on RC Tech, seems that Serpent is getting into 1/10th off road then.

Perhaps we will get a 4wd buggy as well some time.

The Durango/Gerd Strange/Serpent tie up and prototype buggies are well known, but it would be good if Serpent could release 1/10th off road buggies that we can all own and enjoy.

That looks like a EXACT copy of the Durango, nothing seems different.

Because it is the Durango DEX410, look at the wooden plinth, it has an old Durango logo ;). Something happened and the car was released under the Durango brand

Serpent announces new 2wd 1/10 offroad buggy!

Quote:

Serpent announced today that Swedish offroad racer, David Hassel, has joined the Serpent offroad team. Hassel was brought on the team to put his test and racing abilities to work as they made the following statement regarding David's upcoming race plans:

"Winter will be good for running indoor 1/8 and 1/10 offroad and also some indoor carpet racing with 411.
As soon as Serpent's next big project, the 2wd 1/10 buggy will be ready, he will test and race that as well..."

We are anxious to see and hear more of this new Serpent 2wd 1/10 buggy. Many were skeptical of the "onroad known" company jumping into the offroad scene several years back, however, they have proved with race wins worldwide that they have the knowledge and development to build race winning machines on carpet, asphalt, AND dirt.

We have been told that the 2003 IFMAR 2wd World Champion and team driver, Billy Easton, is the main man behind the development and project of the buggy.

Stay tuned for more details...

Serpent went broke and had to sell the project...
After that a few people (with money) got serpent restarted

That's the history lesson for today :)

Can you imagine what brand Serpent could have been if they did have just enough money to get the 410 intro production... Or what sad end the 410 could have had due to that, with a company going bust just when they put out that extraordinary car (I am not that convinced the first series of DEX410 was actually that profitable so it probably wouldn't have saved the brand right off, if a single model could do that at all).

Anyway, cool to see they're also working on a 2WD! I just hope it's something different and unique, and with a good looking shell! (Please Serpent, take Tamiya's late 80s and early 90s buggies as an inspiration) :p

I know there will be a lot of Serpent fans saying this is awesome...

But...... Is it just me or does this look not so special... The only thing to really make this car slightly worse is wood screws... It looks cheap and nasty, and for a car to be debuted, jesus make the wiring at least presentable!

Not impressive at all.

Origineelreclamebord 01-02-2013 04:11 PM

Ron, I agree that it is not as unique and progressive as one might hope - especially being a newcomer in a class. And sure, Serpent should seriously regret not entering the 1/10 offroad scene a few years back with their brand name on the DEX410...

However, things don't need to be wild, unique and special to become successful. If they've done their homework, most people can squeeze good performance out of the car, it will be easy to work on and tough as nails. For a car suitable for the masses, you need those points. For a car that appeals to the masses, you need those points that make the car unique...

SimonW 01-02-2013 08:19 PM

looks like a xxx with losi BB's on, not impressed.

Rayzerp 02-02-2013 09:13 AM

Yep...looks dated and poorly finished....initial impressions not good.

johnboy 02-02-2013 09:34 AM

The car is a preproduction model. People going on about it looking dated what would you do different? You can't reinvent the wheel. This car will be a good quality solid 2wd buggy.
