Work Party - Saturday 24 May

Seven 8x4 sheets arriving at 10am tomorrow. These are for the front of the rostrum and results board.

Is anyone going to the cafe first? I will be there around 9.30am.

We should aim to be there at 10am as the wood is arriving and I hope there will be some volunteers to help unload it from the truck.

Weather looks great for Saturday so hopefully we can make the most of it!

Any pictures to share to all not only those of us in the wild, wild west!

niggs98 25-05-2008 07:19 PM

i didnt see any pics get taken but a few more bits of track had a second coat and were weeded like the main straights. the posts all had there second fill of concrete and the astro that was all mud covered by scrutineering was all cleaned off and relayed so looks a lot better. matt got the results board up

oh the wood for the rostrum cladding turned up so has also been painted ready for fitting so a busy day with only 5 people.

best point of day was mats dad turning up to say hello even if he did have to do a little work :woot: (his choice not ours lol)

Yeah thanks Nathan appreciate that but that was yesterday.

Know there's been more works today, got grainy image form Matt earlier!
Think there's been big progress with the rostrum?

What was the weather like up there today? Thought it was 'sposed to be rough!
Did Steve A come up and finish ALL the listed fencing works?

DC - What do we use next weekend to get a mix of grey paint for the rostrum to match Race Control and Scrutineering?

OK here we go! Sunday...

Steve Andrews along with sidekick Alex finished the four spurs and the gate post. Steve kindly finished fitting the two gates after we left and messed about with them as he said they can be fiddly.

The hand rail around the back of race control was completed up to the steps of the rostrum, although we need to make up a support for the middle of the long arris rail as there is a lot of flex. This will need a metal base for the post to sit on as it will be on the concrete.

Roger and I fitted the six boards to the front of the rostrum and left them full height. This was relatively quick and easy apart from finding the odd double thickness piece of scaffolding that was particularly tough!

Then we were not sure what to do at the top so between us, we came up with a simple idea that saw us box in the upper hand rail! This needs a little tidying up with a sander and maybe the fitting of three full length CLS runs at the back to make it very neat and tidy, with the option of sheeting the side that the drivers stand.

With the people we had over the two days and the weather forecast for Sunday, we didnt do any painting so the seat and all panels on the rostrum require a good session with a roller and paint brush.

DC has said he will source the paint ;) for all the buildings and he wants to fill the gaps and screw heads on the rostrum before the final coat goes on. We can then fit the decal, which we now need to check for size against the blank canvas that is the rather large clad rostrum!
From the pics, you can see that some of the sheets had one and some two coats. DC put a quick coat on the results board but we were running out of time. It may be easier to remove the board for the second coat. Again, DC will source the paint for the results board. Thanks DC.

Thanks to all that turned up over the weekend including Steve A, DC, Niggs, Trekker, MartBoy, etc for a good constructive weekend.

Brookie - hope this post keeps you happy! For the record, it is absolutely chucking it down today. Popped to the track this morning and all is still up and undamaged/marked!

WOW, it's all looking very nice, I will have to get loads of paint to finish the painting off, I may have to take a day off work to come paint:woot:

MattADH 26-05-2008 10:50 AM

DC - That would be great!

The vinyl decal on the rostrum is the only worry as the others are going onto a plastic board.

At last we can tick fencing off the long jobs list!!!

trekkerkk 26-05-2008 11:39 AM
