210 Spur options

So what's the current flavour of spur people running??

I'v read people run smaller than the kit spur to move the motor nearer the gearbox.

Can you notice the difference??

hotrodchris 29-08-2012 04:39 PM

Short answer YES!

MHeadling 29-08-2012 04:43 PM

What size did you go for?

Been looking at rw spurs, also suggestion for pinion on a 7.5?

Aran 29-08-2012 04:43 PM

I run a 81t spur gear and prefer the drive of the 87t spur gear.

hotrodchris 29-08-2012 04:50 PM

83t spur and 24 pinnion.

Cheers chaps!

Out of interest does a 75t work or is this too small? Maybe more for stock racing?

78 fits ok but I've not tried to mesh anything smaller than a 24 pinion on that.

I tried the 75T and it was just too small. I was at the end of the motor plate adjustment slots and still couldn't mesh the gears. I do run a 78T though when I want a lot of rear traction.

I've found the RW spurs a little disappointing. They are a lot cheaper than the Durango ones, but chew up more easily and can melt if you run the slipper too loose.

tbh mark I've found the kit spir worked better for me, when I moved motor back, bit of a wheely machine, back off the slipper, then slower get away, and reduce low speed steering. Then found myself adding noes weight.

Went back to stock which had a better balance between steering and rear grip imo.

I.havent worked for 3weeks so been living at the forcc track with plenty of testing going on!!

22 will mesh but motor is bang up against gearbox casing.

I tried a 22 on a 78 but there just wasn't enough room, I went for a 81 in the end to get the gearing right on my 6.5 motor. Moving the motor back improved the car dramatically.

I'll probably be corrected but I was led to believe that the new durango spurs were actually made by RW?

the schuey cat/sv ones fit perfectly Mark

Cheers Steve

I'm running a schuey 82T with the schuey pads too (TD ones were junk) with a 21T pinion. Works fine and the slipper is much easier to setup with the better pads

AmiSMB 03-09-2012 02:11 PM

The new Durango option light weight spurs are made by RW. Remember that if you are using RW Schumacher spurs instead of RW Durango spurs the step in the centre is missing and this will mean that if the centre lets go then the spur can move very easily. The steps are there for a reason on the RW Durango spur so that it is better supported by the slipper pads in the centre.
