Could anyone make these in alloy for the vintage Schumacher Procat?

Luke, did GPM not make alloy versions of these BITD? I seem to remember them anyway.. Might be worth hunting for a set of them instead of making new versions.

I reckon this will improve the damping and response up front. I did think about carbon braces between the shock mounts and o-ring lugs. This would be easier to manufacture but I like the crashback system... it's unique to the old Schueys and has probably saved me many wishbones.

Back when i raced my Procat i used to tiewrap up the crashback system to prevent any movement :blush: Without it, the front end seemed sloppy. I don't remember breaking too many wishbones.. have you tried it locked up yourself to see if it makes a difference?

True, true... but I was thinking it's not so much the front to back flex of the crashback system but the lateral flex in the shock mount i.e. in the direction of the shock travel. You can even see it if you look down on the car and drop the front end. I reckon even with the crashback locked up there' would still be some flex that prevents the dampers working properly. Still, it's a good idea. I'd also put a carbon fibre brace between the shock mounts. It's just that those front wishbones are rare and I don't want to break any. By the way, I've used three 3x20mm o-rings on the front so it's probably a lot stiffer than bitd.

I've got a set of pink dyed nylon parts on mine, from S.J.P.
Got the rear wishbones to match.
Bought them back in the day as they never broke, unlink the Schumacher parts.

Will follow this with interest. My project car hasn't arrived yet, but im hoping to make a nice looking car, rather than a runner. Maybe post the topic elsewhere on the forum, maybe not all the 'machinist's ' that are able to help look in the vintage section? Just a thought. ;-)

Hi Luke.

Would the alloy uprights not end up bending in crashes etc...? If you do get a few sets made up and ano'd I might be interested in a set (for bling factor) :D

I have a pair of 'solid' uprights for sale at the moment. They might be a bit stiffer than the factory original parts.
