Spektrum Stick 2.4ghz Transmitter's

came down for yesterdays meeting !

whilst walking through the pits I seen what looked like a Spektrum Stick 2.4ghz Transmitter with DX3R on the top !

I didn't think Spektrum made a 2.4ghz stick tranny and the DX3R is a wheel tranny

Anyone shed some light on this ?
Is it a modified TX or just a sticker on another brand's tx ?

racingben 13-08-2012 08:43 AM

It's a dx3-r transplanted into a ko transmitter I think. There's a thread on here about it somewhere.

knighthawk 13-08-2012 09:43 AM

Didn't think I was loosing it, lol

But wow thats must be an expensive and complicated conversion ?

Crash 13-08-2012 11:21 AM

Yeah I noticed that too.
It was Lloyd Storey's transmitter.

Spektrum will be bringing out a budget and high end stick radio for cars sometime this year but their isn't any confirmed details yet. Darren Bloomfield also has a KO/3R conversion transmitter, Dave Spashett has the sample stick radio tho.

That's great news. Why hasn't spectrum released a stick version together with their range of wheel transmitters? I would of thought there is still a market for sticks in the uk. A lot of club members at torch still use sticks.

Anyway the sooner the better. The code / etronix transmitter I currently have is utter garbage and have had nothing but rouble with it.

Do you know the release date for it?

They do

DX6i ? ok its for planes but still works for cars of course

I'm not 100% on this but, the use of aircraft transmitters for land based vehicles is not allowed due to the output of the signal being very high and can cause interferance with other systems as the signal will over power the less strong land based transmitters.
Dont waste money on a transmitter to be told later that you can't use it.

there is no difference in the output of a "aircraft" based system to a "ground" system. therefor there are no restrictions as to what vehicle you stick on the end of it

There is some kind of difference, as if I've been told right aircraft receivers won't work with ground transmitters or visa verse !

Not saying there's any higher or lower output rates but there's a difference or a kind

the original post quoted output, you are correct in that you cannot use ground rx's with air sets and vice versa as they use different protocols, however should you wish to use a dx6i in a car you would need to use a compatible air rx, normally these are 6 channel you just need to plug into the correct channel(s), there is some difference with failsafe programming and you will have the issue that the sticks are two position which might take some getting used to

Stuweatherman 22-08-2012 07:04 PM

You can use isolators so that the sticks would only travel in the direct you want them to http://bit.ly/PdbiJV plus you will need to change the throttle stick from a ratchet to a spring so it returns to neutral.

As for the protocols from memory I think there is dsm, dsm2 & dsmx so be careful choosing your receiver. The signal strength is more to do with global or france, global is stronger and some transmitters are now coming with this option to switch (kyosho, hpi etc)

So would a dx6i work on the mirco spek car rx's out of the box??

wylie 22-08-2012 10:29 PM

Just did a spec check for a Spektrum DX6I and that pushes out 1 watt the Sanwa exzes pushes out a 10mw.
Surface based objects (boats and cars) only need short range, where as aircraft need a larger range.
Im not saying im right as im not sure, but I would definatly ask the BRCA about it before making a purchase.

In short no.

Air Receivers start with AR****
Surface Receivers start with SR****

The two systems are not compatible !!

MHeadling 23-08-2012 06:14 AM

Ok cheers for clearing that up dude!

Let's hope we see a spektrum car stick set soon as my sanwa is getting on a bit now!

i am not sure where you are getting your specs from, the dx6i along with all the 2.4ghz systems output at 100mw in the EU and 200mw in the USA, there is/was i believe a different output for france, anyone who has a dx6i will know there is a menu selection for eu or USA. the reason for the difference is that the different bodies (FCC in the US) came up with a power output that they wanted within their jurisdiction. spektrum then made the radio to fit in to the markets they wanted to sell in. hence the selectable power output

equally the sanwa 2.4 system also outputs at 100mw aircraft or surface, i cannot find anywhere if this is selectable to the higher power allowed by the FCC.

Iv done planes for years and I used my jr handset to race cars it's spectrum module in the back and has it runs a slight different signal to land based 2.4 I had no issue with it but u can not use 35 for land based.i used mine at club and reganals and at the micro nationals with no pros.i removed the back of the handset and blanked of the sticks movements that I dident won't hope this helps
