seting up a buggy
 

Having acquired a losi 22. What im wanting to no is about seting up the car. Is there a guide for buggys. Or does the same princpuls from a touring car apply. Its mainly damping. Shock pistons and oil im wanting to no about. Thick oil with big holes in piston vs thin oil and small holes. On the losi forums there was talk about ball diffs vs gear and how one is rubish with its slipy. The purpose of what the diffs do is the same but why the handeling difference

If you are looking for basics on setup, both the Losi and Asso manuals provide information and what changes do for you. In a nutshell setup changes ar no different from what you do with a touring car or any other vehicle. It is just that for a 2WD your emphasize might been on different changes compared to a TC or an 1:8 buggy.

You are right, that a ball and gear diff do the same thing. If you are running a ball diff on a high traction surface you might be challenged to stop if from slipping while still having the required "diff effect" A gear diff by design can't slip while the diff effect is changed by using different silicon oil.

put it on a track, do a ton of laps and when your average lap is within half a second of your fastest lap in a given session, then start thinking about what to change.

even if the car is handling like a pig to start with, persistence pays off. if you don't have a baseline you won't know what to change, or how it helped :)

Um, find a reasonable baseline first.
i.e. put it together following a suitable set up from petitrc. (other set ups may be available, maybe another driver at your club, or the manual)

Then drive it loads before you start tweaking anything else.
