Southern Micro Championship

For all micro/mini racers in the south, DMCRC (Dorset) has deciding to do a winter championship along side their usual on-road heats. The club races on a Friday night @ Carter Community College in Poole. Details will follow as well as rules etc but if you are interested please register on the dmcrc.proboards.com forum.

HOTSHOT III 05-08-2012 05:37 AM

Will someone be building some jumps/obstacles like the indoor off-road tracks in the Midlands? A few wooden jumps could easily be installed/removed between the usual on-road heats.

Also it would be fun to have a 1/10th indoor off-road class, what are the chances of this?

Stuweatherman 05-08-2012 05:11 PM

We did look at 1/10 indoor, but little tight so as their aren't many micro clubs in the south thats why we chose to run this. Their will be some jumps and most likely a bot dot area too so won't be completly flat.

Ill speak to the people from wycombe and if possible there may be 5-7 of us intrested in coming down, however will only be a odd round proberly not the full series

Stuweatherman 05-08-2012 07:24 PM

Do you guys have a KV limit on the motors?? Thinking we may include one so drivers who buy a new car don't have to go out and also buy a motor to be able to compete.

matty2 05-08-2012 07:32 PM

All the micro ie carisma, losi use 4500kv which comes with the car
The rest is done with the gear ratios, unless your a carisma team driver they use
6500kv Tbh 4500 kv is plenty fast enough just gear it up especially when carisma won last years micro nationals
With the losi mini catching up very fast even with the 4500kv standard motor in the kit
We run a micro and 1/10 th scale club with not much room but tbh
You dont need much room for the micros unless your your running to brca regs which would mean you need 20 mt back straight
If we were not so far away some of us guys would be interested :)

we all run mongoose 8.5-10.5t sensored combos.

Theres 4 LWB LRP Sharks and 3 Losi mini 8ights

Stuweatherman 05-08-2012 09:20 PM

Was thinking about a 4500kv motor limit, altho see that the ae rc18 has a 5000kv motor.

We're wanting to get rules in place that means it'll be close for all involved. So someone who buys a kit off the shelf won't have to spend loads to compete.

Tyres we're thinking of keeping it as kit tyres or schumacher sst's. Altho have seen that the contact tc foams may fit and be kinder on the carpet.

Micros are much better spec'd than the equivalent 10th RTR, I don't think anyone would have an advantage fitting a bigger motor, but much better keeping the rules to a minimum :)

The majority of micro racers tend to run the Schuey SSTs, with a few running the schuey mini pins - allowing the SSTs may encourage people as they don't have to buy new tyres.

All of us drivers at wycombe use Foam, as there long lasting and give us great grip on our carpet, so maybe keeping tyres open would be a good option

Best option

Danny Harrison 07-08-2012 07:04 AM

Yep, but foams will give plenty more grip than even white rally blocks. Tried it :)

Stuweatherman 11-08-2012 07:59 AM

In terms of foams what brands/ shore ratings are you guys using?? We want to test a couple of options before we announce the final rules.

peetbee 11-08-2012 08:04 PM

Are you really looking to restrict tyre choice to that degree Stu?
Or is this more to be able to provide advice to people looking to run?

Stuweatherman 12-08-2012 06:29 AM

Its mainly so we can give the right advice. If you need an M05 or M06 setup then I can give you both, but as we don't currently run micros its a quick learning curve.

The only issue with say running the sst's maybe that it will cause the carpet to fluff up which is why we want to try a couple of things first.

peetbee 12-08-2012 08:34 AM

Fair enough :)

Can't comment on how whether SST's would fluff up the carpet as we run 10th off road on mini pins as well! :woot:

Would the foams be with or without additive?

Also. might be worth posting this on http://www.uk-microrc.co.uk as well, may well get some additional info on tyres etc over there.

Dombrasky 12-08-2012 02:31 PM

You might be better off running to brca rules imo, no foams any motor
otherwise its gonna get very complicated
your more likely to damage carpet from chassis than tyres
only a couple of team carisma drivers run 6900kv motors including
last seasons champion, too fast for most people to handle
the std 4500kv is more than fast enough for most micro racers

peetbee 31-08-2012 12:19 PM

Any updates Stu, can't see anything on the club's forum?

Stuweatherman 31-08-2012 12:24 PM

We're sorting out a new website for the club and just getting the dates finalised.

Been tyre testing the last few weeks and have found the contact foams (£4.99 a pr) the best suited to our track. Got 42 shore on front and 40 shore on the rear of the losi mini 8ight and without additive give plenty of grip.

peetbee 31-08-2012 01:50 PM

Thanks Stu, I will try to co-ordinate my visits to the in-laws in Upton appropriately!
