Liquid mask - how many coats & force drying...

Hey pro's!

How many coats of masking fluid are you typically applying, and how the hell do you speed up the drying process! I'm itching to get on with a dirty great pile of shells, but getting 4-5 coats on and dried is taking days!!!

cheers

Iv only done 2 shells, I do 4 coats and use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process,

3 to 4 good coats of rcs liquid mask stand on radiator to dry and yeh takes 2-3 days to do it right, but can be forced with lighter coats 4-5 and force dried

i use parma fasmask and only put on 2 heavy coats, the main thing is the thicker it is the easier to peel off but 2 coats seems ok and i just put it in front off of a table fan

I use 3-4 coats, I apply one coat heat dry with hairdryer until it looks nice and dry, then apply a 2nd coat and do the same and follow the this same routine.

I still hairdry the last coat but with each additional coat it wont become as dry as the last, I then leave the body to dry overnight and TA DAA its ready for cut and paint the next morning.

Ive used this same technique since starting painting, never takes more than a day to dry, Ive actually masked one up at night and then painted in the morning so say 12hrs drying time.

Good luck

I see! Cheers guys,

I've been eyeing up an old display cabinet, thinking it would make an excellent 'hot box'. Enough room for half a dozen touring car shells. Just need to organise some toasty warm bulbs and a fan to circulate the warm air...

I spray mine on (RCS liquid mask) light coat, dry with hair dryer repeat for about 4/5 coats, leave in front of blow heater for 1 hour then its ready to cut.
Work really well as I'm very impatient!

Cheers chaps,

I'm developing an eye for the correct shade of green when the RCS mask is thick enough !!!

Well, they've all dried so it's going to be a busy evening...

Like NDesign, i started spraying RCS mask, and the results are fantastic. Really, only needing 2 reasonably heavy coats (so the mask looks opaque-ish). Seems easier to cut and remove, i guess it's more consistant coverage than brushing on

as for force drying, i leave them nose down on a radiator, upright against a wall and they're dry within an hour usually. Means i can have 10 or so bodies masked in a night :D
