RB5 / ZX5 / DB1
Hi
I am about to order a DB1, I have some spares from an FS2 and a new RB5. Basically I am asking if any of the RB5 drive shafts are the same as ZX5. Or am I going to have buy some ZX5 drive shafts? Ta |
You need the 62.5mm driveshafts.
I believe they are from the original RB5 |
Ok
So i can use the drive axles from the rb5 kit but I need to buy those drive shafts. Annoying. I bet you they are expensive. I will start trying to look them up Cheers |
I sold some on Sunday... Sorry that doesn't help. New they are around £40 for full set. Or try eBay.
|
Ok
Thanks Now heres the final question. If I buy just the RB5 swing shaft 62.5 mm can I use the RB5 SP2 WC rear hub axles to connect them to it and make an ZX5 complete swing shaft as I can buy the RB5 swing shaft sperately on ebay for a fiver which would be perfect. I guess |
I think the stub axles on the rb5 wc are shorter than used on the lazer.
|
I'm pretty sure you can use cvd/axle from the RB5, ask RogerM, he did it.
I may be wrong but the new lightweight diff outdrives require to use 65.5mm shafts rather than the stock 62.5 so it should work. |
Have a look on the DB1 exploded components web.
You need the UM510 universal 62,5mm swing shaft |
You can use the 65.5 (RB5) driveshafts on a FS2 or a DB1 without any problem. If you are a good driver, you should feel a little more on-power steering than with the shorter FS2 bones, that's all.
|
As Gayo says. I'm currently running the UM522 shafts from the FS2 (not sp version) & RB5sp/sp2. They have slightly more dogbone plunge into the outdrive so bind up the rear end a little more on power. I personally find that it helps the car as the DB1 has a HUGE amount of rear end grip for a 2wd ... even on the shortest links!!!
If the track becomes slippery or ruts up badly I would change to the UM510 assemblies with the blue spacer on the INSIDE of the rear hub. UM510 is the original RB5 and FS2sp shaft set. I've not got the lightweight outdrives yet but I believe you can use either length of shaft as they are (again I believe) the same dimensions as the stock outdrives. Hope that helps. |
With the new lightweight out drives, it tells you in the leaflet to use the 62.5mm shaft... UM510
Which is shaft UM510-01 and axle UM510-02! C-joint adapter TFW001-01  |
