B44 snapped front shock shaft

hi there,iv been reading some other forums and they have been saying that there front shock shafts have snaped easly,iv just been out in the street to test my new gearing, droped off a cerb(side walk)and the front one has snapped where the threaded part ends,i was just wondering what is the best wat to go,do i just order new shafts or different ones or do i get compleatly different shocks,i dont think they are brill,
what have others done or what would you suggest
thanks

Same happend to me, front end just started dipping in rd 3 at a regional, snapped for no reason. The older style silver unobtanium ones (old style B4 FT kits) are the strongest, also people use losi shafts in the front (they are slightly longer but its a silly small number i wouldnt worry). I just bought some losi shocks off a friend so im putting them on when i get around to it.

I'm sorry to hear you fellows problem with the shock shaft breaking - but I'm concerned when people note how little was done (hopping off the curb, front end jsut dropped unexpectantly) when the damage happened. And thus my point is to suggest seldom is the action that results in the breakage actually what caused the damage, as it's almost always a previous confrontation (hitting a lamp post, coming down hard off a jump, high speed collision with another car) that causes the damage and it only finally shows up later while the driver has long forgotten about the previous action that really led to the breakage.

i've broken one (myown fault) and another from being hit at batley outdoors track a few weeks ago by a car drivin the wrong way on the banked corner into me in a race! was leading aswell the shaft was bent and there's a nice dent in my shock body and the guy didnt even say anything about it just ignored it cost me a race and parts:thumbdown:

Mine snapped at the treaded part ends too when my car landed badly from a jump. It's bad driving but still, my older shafts from AE never even broke once no matter how bad I landed.

Sorry for posting again but what part number is the losi front shaft and does the AE piston fit the losi shaft?

Mike Hudson 05-05-2008 05:19 PM

all the shafts are weak at the thread point, all ae gold ones seem to snap there

ashleyb4 05-05-2008 06:00 PM

Yea AE pistons do fit on losi shafts.

A

I know what you are saying, but the chance of having a crash in the last round of the last lap on the last corner is very slim and to do just enought damage so that next time i snezzed on it(not after hitting a lanp post) it snaped isnt right,if it was from a race crash it would snap before the end of the race as did josh_smaxx,iv been racing long enought to know a week part,

I snapped mine to, hit a rolled car as it rolled infront of me i hit the underside of it and POW it was gone. I have replaced them with Losi 0.6 shafts and ground 1mm off the threaded end then wound the shock bottom all the way on, inside i have used 2mm of shims to get the right down travel. The other necessity in my opinion is an ATOMIC CARBON shock tower set...............mmmmmmmmmm 4mm

josh_smaxx 05-05-2008 07:56 PM

I snapped a shock tower on an 8th track as well yesterday  im going for the 4mm fibre-lyte ones as there round the corner from me so its easy for me to get hold of.

I snapped a shock shaft this Sat also

I snapped a shock shaft this Sat also, ran into the back of a stationary car on the straight, and yes it broke at the start of the threads, bright side is it acted like a weak link leaving all other parts intact.

I think the secret is not to hit things :)

And thanks to Mike for lending me a spare, I will be ordering spares on Tuesday and should be able to let you have it back this Saturday at the York meet.

I like it a lot, seems far more predictable and seems to jump better

Lee 07-05-2008 08:07 AM

the preds do look uncomfortable jumping, i dont know why, they just dont seem to hang in the air like other cars, they always seem flat:confused:
