Manchester buggy club
8th of august 2012 will see the first meeting of the Manchester buggy club. Every wednesday night we will be open for racing from 6.30pm onwards. We'll have a basic web cam type timing system to start with and what I hope will be an interesting track to race on. Materials are being collected and jumps are being made in preparation for a test session the week before.
The venue is... Patricroft conservative club 1a Edison road, Eccles, Manchester M30 7AW http://gmrc.jimdo.com/ The website is basic and is a little short of contents at the moment but please be patient with us. The race fee will be £5 per person per night. While we are aiming the club at the micro buggy sized cars, we'll accept anything electric upto 1/10th. The idea of the club is to have fun and create a non intimidating place for newcomers to try the sport with the veiw to becoming regular racers in whichever scale they choose. To this end we hope to have a hire car or two once the funds allow. The cost of the hire car will be £10 per night subject to conditions. We're obviously looking for new members to come and race and also to help run the club so please put the word out and feel free to contact us through the website. |

We're not going mad with jumps just yet as it's early days so we'll be having a couple of pasting table jumps as suggested by a couple of guys, a couple of little "bibble jumps" and a few other bits and bobs. In time I hope to make a cross over, wall ride and I'm just in the process of making this.....

They're in 36" wide bits so it'll be easy to move. Here are the signs we've had done (is there any law against putting them on road side railings?) http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/1160/signsdave.jpg and here is a ver rough roon size plan thingy http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5083/track1v.jpg |

Well done mate, looks like its coming together.
Ill deffo be there on opening night  Was going to add, how about a change of surface instead of all carpet. Slippy floor in places makes things alot more interesting!! |
We'll be there on the 1st of August to have a trial run to see how much stuff we're short of and to panic about not having enough time and money to make something decent so people want to come down time and again.
At the moment I'm finding a stuggle to get out to suppliers to get timber to finish the jumps and waiting for good weather to paint stuff and waiting for it to be near dry so it can go back in the shed. We have the dance floor that is going to be used, I was also thinking of maybe getting a truck tarp to see what that is like. We have plans for a cross over and wall ride but again thats time and money reliant. If anyone has any ideas then please feel free to offer advice, help or money/materials (no I'm not too proud to ask) then it would all be very welcome. Cheers. |
Looking at the name of the club I assume its not Touring / on road? :) A few of us might pop down for a look to see if we can do the jumps in our TC's
|
Only 2 things I can see that may be a problem with a touring car
1 is the change of surface from the dance floor to the carpet 2 is the carpet we will be using - it's not the prima felt used by most clubs. Other than that you're more than welcome to come down, we can make gaps at the side of the jumps or other "escape routes" to avoid the various obstacles. Yes the club is called Manchester buggy club and it's aimed at the micro scale cars like the Losi mini 8ight but at the end of the day the main aim of the club is fun, bringing new guys into racing and have a good vibe where everyone gets on and helps out. |
Safe parking on site?
|

Just a reminder guys, Manchester buggy club will be open tonight from about 7pm for a test run. To see what works or doesn't, see what we still need and so on. Feel free to pop over and give us the benefit of your experience.

Last night was a good eye opener for me, thanks to a guy called Paul who came down to have a look. We laid out a rough track and decided what we could do/make of what we had and given his experience, Paul thinks the club/track could easily cope with 30+ racers and have a good track set up. An AMB timing system will be on the shopping list as will BRCA membership for the club - better safe than sorry, plus there is always help available from them. Paul will be posting video and photos here shortly.
Cheers, Mike |
