21T or 22T if it's a short or rather long track

I ran the following gearings when I was running SP motors, gearing on my current Orion motors is basically the same (note this is for open astro / multi-surface tracks, in brackets for smaller indoor tracks) .

5.5 = 20 or 21 (19 on very small tracks)
6.5 = 23 or 24 (21 on very small tracks
7.5 = 26 or 27 (25 on very small tracks)

I hope that helps

I run a 25 or 26 depending on track type with an Orion 8.5vst which is equivalent to most 7.5t motors.

Reading Roger's setups I ask myself: am I under-geared? I'm having a 22 installed on a 10.5, running mainly on mid sized tracks.

What do you guys think, is it safe to go for a 24 pinion?

Try a 25 or 26T for starters and see how it feels. I used to run a 21T on a 5.5T motor to tame it a bit so it sounds a bit low. Assume your running a kit spur gear.
