Yeah you can do that and then attach it with some double sided but really that necessitates spraying the inside too so then you have paint on double sided holding paint on which is holding onto the wing. It does work but I always worried it would mess up so in the end I just started leaving everything clear on the sides. Now, it's rare I get asked to paint a wing, which to be honest, I don't mind.
If you're clever you leave a 1.5mm gap around the whole wing, then remove this when you put the clear coat on and it gives it a little more to grip to. But it's a bit of a faff and marginally on the pedantic nervous twitch OCD side :wtf:
