Painting the Wing ????
 

I have a shell to paint for someone and i'm doing a custom painted wing.

I know you paint on the underside of the wing (after removing the film)

Just wondering - what do the top lads do when you paint the sides - do you paint the inside or outside and what happens if the design needs to cross over from the bottom to the sides ?

I've always wondered what's the best approach ?

Paint the outside if your going to do it.

Leave the sides clear.

works for me, and looks good. Also leave some gurney clear too.

or do what they did in the eighties and spray some additional lexan and tape it onto the sides .... makes it go better in a straight line you know !

Yeah you can do that and then attach it with some double sided but really that necessitates spraying the inside too so then you have paint on double sided holding paint on which is holding onto the wing. It does work but I always worried it would mess up so in the end I just started leaving everything clear on the sides. Now, it's rare I get asked to paint a wing, which to be honest, I don't mind.

If you're clever you leave a 1.5mm gap around the whole wing, then remove this when you put the clear coat on and it gives it a little more to grip to. But it's a bit of a faff and marginally on the pedantic nervous twitch OCD side :wtf:
