London -Low Emission Zone

-Just received a warning (luckily not a bill) for being inside the London LEZ on my way to (or from?) the Nats at Eden Park earlier this month.
The fine for non-compliance will be £100/day, cost to fit a filter according to the DVLA would be between £1800-£3500 for my VW LT35 camper (2001),and has to be obtained and fitted by an approved garage.
-I don't think we'll be doing any more meetings inside the M25 boundary until we win the Lottery!
Cheers, Gord....

?

What are the rules with this low level emission stuff???

Can we get to eden park without entering these areas?

pro4nut 12-06-2012 11:56 AM

Basically you will be ok as long as your vechile is a post 2006 model.

Downside is you cannot get to Eden park without passing through the LEZ.

It has been in operation for 4 years so its not new but they tightened the rules in January 2012.

Anyone travelling inside of the M25 and central london should check for rules relating to the LEZ and C-charge zones, on the TFL website, this also applies for public transport updates

On the flip side living in London this is just a small part of the nonsense we have to put up with, with the olympics around the corner its getting worse......

From Watford we came around the M25 then came up through Croydon etc on the A23 route, still took about an hour (same as through "town") and dont recall going into or through any LE zones along the way???

Getpip 12-06-2012 01:45 PM

The track itself is located inside the zone.

pro4nut 12-06-2012 02:05 PM

Darren your van is exempt if you still have the blue one that is. So are big diesel 4x4's but a full size transit or equivalent will be charged if its pre 06 plate.

The zone starts around apex corner but even by avoiding going around the M25 you still drive through it as it goes out as far as Bromley and Croydon.

BTW you can save time when you come around the M25 in the morning if you scoot down the A12 and go through the blackwall tunnel. On weekends the traffic is non existant at the times you have to travel to go racing, as my recent speeding ticket shows.......

pro4nut 12-06-2012 02:07 PM

Web link to check if you are charged by LEZ

.......

I think you will find 2002 is the cut off year for 'Euro 3' emissions compliant vehicles.
So if your van is post 2002 you will be ok.

Colin Kirkham 12-06-2012 02:26 PM

Had the same letter in my T4 van ! R reg so £100 next time I go to eden park :(

spud31 12-06-2012 11:32 PM

jjimbobb 13-06-2012 09:31 PM

Having never done a national... was this information not in the info pack?

Robocop 14-06-2012 06:10 AM

Don't really understand all this but went there last year to elf for the tlr cup did not eben think about the low emmision zones never heard a thing in a v40 99 year but emmisions on the not is always low

AndrewCaunt 14-06-2012 07:38 PM

We got a WARNING aswell  It did not say low emision ZONE the sat Nav took us that way doh.

AmiSMB 15-06-2012 06:27 AM

I had to drive in to South Kensington recently and went through the LEZ in my P reg 1996 VW T4 2.0 petrol and thought I would get a letter but the website says I am compliant. Maybe it is because it has a catalytic converter in the exhaust.

Ant 15-06-2012 06:37 AM

My understanding is that camper vans are exempt from low lez as long as it is properly certified as being one.
I had a 2000 T4 which wasn't compliant, but if it had had the 2.5 diesel, or a different colour 'i' it would have been OK.
A lot of people in London had to get rid of perfectly good vans in Jan.....

The lez only applies to diesels and is to do with the diesel particles in the emissions.
If you fit a dpf (diesel particl filter) you can get exemption.
The ruling does not apply to petrol vans

pro4nut 15-06-2012 12:20 PM

I have put the link for the compliance checker above, just put in your Plate and it will tell you if you are compliant.

So I assume this fairly vital info wasn't contained in the info pack?

Gordonm 17-06-2012 09:23 AM

No, not that I remember!!
Probably because the info pack was prepared before Jan? and the Mayor sneaked the amendments in to catch the Olympic visitors..or am I being cynical!
