Mixing shock oil
 

Can you do this?

i have a acquired lots of useless heavy weight oil 60 70 80. If i was to mix in equal parts with 10 weight would i get 35, 40 and 45? Much more usefull oil!!

I think it would be better to put the ones you don't use in the for sale section or ebay and buy the proper ones !

I've done something like that
The night before a race when I needed to change oils
Mixing seems to work ok as long as your looking for (about) 35 weight or whatever
Not accurate but it works fine in the shocks and you can always remix till it feels right

Dude I'd put veg oil in my shocks if I had to
Maybe olive oil if I was feeling posh

Isn't oil viscosity measured on a logarithmic scale? (or at least, non-linear)

I can vaguely remember something about this from creating "mid point" oils for my MTB forks......

So mixing is pretty hit and miss (but as long as you use the same, mixed, oil on both sides it should be near enough.......)

Don't do what a lad I know did though :lol: 10wt + 30wt does not = 40wt :lol:

There's also a shock oil comparison chart so you can calculate the cst. Different manufacturers oils all have slightly different rates.
