GT12.2 Questions

I'm thinking about going for a GT12.2 and dont know what to go for?

Mardave / Schumacher?

I'v returned to rc 1/10 off road after 20+ years of not racing (this is what i know), but i would like to give on road a go as it is not something that i have done before.

I think the GT12.2 class is a good starting point to get me on the flat stuff with not much outlay. But what car would you go for, please let me know your thoughts.

Mardave V Schumacher

Personally I'd go the mardave route, I like the look of the schuey but for me the mardave is just simplicity itself ( yes guys at TRCC I know I need my cars to be simple and even then can't do much to them ) also from memory ( when I was runner up in TRCC mardave championships years ago ) the parts are dirt cheap for repairs when things go wrong.
Also at the club I think there is more people with mardave experience to help you when things don't seem right.

I would buy a sakura zero S for less than the cars above (about £75 from HK) and race 1/10 on road. It's a competitive car at club level, and tenth onroad is friendly and provides you with close, cheap racing.

Gt12 is fine, but at club level the costs are comparable to 1/10 and it's a class you can race indoors and out.

If I was to race one of the above I would go for the schumacher. They go quick out of the box, although both can be quick.

I raced my schumacher superstox for the first time last weekend, and raised a few eyebrows with the mardave crowd with it's performance. With a few tweeks to the suspension setup from the kit setup, it handles perfectly and a dream to drive out of the box. Mardaves are great, and super fun to race, but the schumacher is a many steps ahead in performance levels and component quality, in my opinion. Of course a top driver will win with anything, but I suspect there will be quite a few used mardaves up for sale soon.

Voted for the Mardave as my SS dosn't go as well as the Sam Grey I have. Swapping to from Contact's to Dave foams may provide the answer.

What Foams and additive work well at TRCC? I think im swaying towards the Mardave at this point in time... Also will i be ok going with the G2 to get started

I have both cars, and alternate week to week. Stox is easy out Box and is easy to drive, Mardave you have to work on it to get it right but for a "driver" the Mardave is a car you really have to drive all the time, the stox just seems to easy so lacks the fun edge.

G2 is fine to race with, I run comparable lap times with 13.5t/1s & G2/4Cell.

Start with G2 then see how you enjoy it, I raced with G2 for about 4 months before investing in brushless.

get a schuey supastox... having owned that and a Mardave, the build quality alone sets them apart, the Supastox will be more consistent race to race

disagree

Ive found totally the opposite .I agree build quality is superior, but when grip comes up Schumacher is very unstable car. Work in progress.Mardave is good in all conditions ,so is now the car of choice. My schumacher is up for sale.

i agree here, I found mine actually goes away as the night progresses. Often the same race towards the end the tires seem to go off. I did manage to cure with setup but a pain to change after each race.
