Setup for a high bite astro track
 

Hi,

I'm a bit dissapointed with the X6 compared with the B4 but I really hope it's a setup thing :confused:

I need some help setting up my X6 (4 gear with asso shocks).

Could somebody point me in the wright direction for a high bite astro technical track?

when i ran mine with ae shocks i had 35wt up front with a losi red piston and 30 rear with a red. silver springs all round:thumbsup:

the rest is personal preference and i only ran the 3 gear but this oil and piston combo felt about right.

try the coventry or stotfold one both worked good
but remember to run long long wheel base if your on a 4 cog

I'm not all over that long long wheelbase thing, I run the wishbones short all the time and then just move the hubs as required.

Chaps, slightly off topic, but what is the theory about running a long wheelbase, i thought a short wheel base would be the way to go (like dan) as there is less weight hanging over the rear end?

I'd guess it would be to get back the on power steering you lose with the 4 gear gearbox? As Dan has a phobia of steering thats probably why he runs it short :woot:

I recommend against the long long wheelbase. I run short short all the time, and when I have ventured to even a slight change on the hub - its felt aweful in comparison, not so much on steering but on bump handling and weight transfer.

If you need more steering, can be done with camber link length and ballstud height.

it's what Ellis runs,we tried it on his advice, and as rich mention short or short short takes away all the steering,Matty loves steering,
we also run in line axles now which shortens the wheel base up,and makes the car pivot better.

do you not lack drive carl, if it rains etc?

the x6 with the 4 cog gear box doesnt suffer from rear end grip
if anything it has to much and as a result looses steering especialy under power, moving to long or long long wheel base helps hughly
and doesnt take away from bumps or jumps,we play with rear kick up and inline axles to and to the pivot affect

When i was watching the A at kiddy on sat, when it was wet it was noticable that ellis has less drive than the conventional laid out cars (coming onto the straight) but what was also noticable is that when one of the others broke away it was very rare the driver caught it, where as when ellis` broke away it was a more progressive slide. No pendulum effect i suspect being the answer but it was good to see.

the drive on the x6 can also be alterd buy the gearbox hight
i know ellis was on the lowest gearbox setting

Nearly, it gives less drive and more rotation.

I run my gearbox at .09' as I like to point and squirt.

If that was in the first A then I had not set the car for the wet, I was on long wheelbase and everything from the dry still, I sorted it for the last 2 legs though and had loads of drive.

But to be honest most of it was probably me trying to just get the power down, the X6 has loads of rear end, more than any car I have driven and I have driven a few over the years :woot:

That one part of the track is not a good corner to see how much drive a car has either, as it is coming on to the straight it is more down to how much power people are putting on and I am known for my slightly heavy left thumb ;)

Low tranny is less drive but better on the bumps, don't ever feel it effect the rotation, just drive and bump handling. I left it low for the all the A's though, just changed to short wheelbase and changed the shock oil.
