Another broken shock tower,3rd time

I dunno I it's my driving or what, but it's not as if I have been driving like a tool, just a flip over and 'bang' goes the shock tower, only thing was then i was a bit nervous going over the jump where i did it so had slower lap times but at least i finished the races today, this is the only problem I am having with the 210,apart from that it's a brilliant car,I was thinking about an Ali one but then maybe something else might break like the gearbox casing,I have put washers in between the tower and gearbox now,so fingers crossed!!

How Is everyone else getting on with them or any ideas?

As far as i know its the part that breaks the most in this model. People that i know of that got the aluminium one never had any problems so far.

Think you'd really have to batter it to break the gearbox casing.
I havent broke a single part on mine ( touch wood)
I think the CF rear tower is strong

If it was the double thats where mine went when i had one

You could always try a different brand ;)

I've done three, swapped to Cream on saturday, not driven it yet.

A club mates son has done several, drove a (slightly modified) cream tower all day saturday, several prangs, no problems. No damage to the gearbox housing either.

I didn't break a plastic tower but decided to change to a carbon one from nick gurnell just incase.

What I am having problems with is the spur gear cover. Broke 7 now (the top part that sticks out) and tried different ways to do the screw up, but that small part of the plastic is very weak and it is very frustrating. Anyone else had the same problem?

Sorry not trying to high jack your thread. Mods feel free to move.

rear shock towers

used to have same problem. the motor mount plate, where the cover screws on is extremely close to the tower. have put 2mm spacers in and so far not broken anything. touch wood.

I've only ever seen one shock tower break, and that was yesterday at tiverton coming off a double but it wasn't like it was a huge leap or landed heavy?

Big G 28-05-2012 03:12 PM

I haven't broken anything in 7 months. Did see probably 10 rear shock towers break in 1 meeting though.

That was me that did it on the jump in front of the rostrum

I have never broken a plastic rear shock tower but maybe that is because I just put on the one from Nick Gurnell and have not had to worry about it. I also use the Cream front shock tower but have only every broken one of these and it was a hard crash!

Tomk26B4 28-05-2012 05:42 PM

I can recommend the CF rear tower.

For gear covers go with the bugelboy cover, it wraps around the motor mount as well. Highly recommended

I'm not the best driver but after seeing a lot of plastic rear towers break before i got my 210 fitted CF ones straight away and touch wood not had an issue with them!:woot::thumbsup:

Must say like that Bugle gear cover as iv'e also had the top screw hole on mine split!

I like the look of the Bugelboy covers – I’ll definitely order one.

On the main topic, when the 210 first came out quite a few of us at Southport have broken the rear shock tower (a fair amount of hard-stuff to hit) and I would say that most have converted to Cream towers. I haven’t heard of anyone breaking them since.

Of course, as Cream Extreme aka Noel is a local driver, they were designed to withstand a punishing track.
