Galaxy s2 operating system problem

A few weeks ago I got an update message from samsung for an upgrade of the OS to 4.0.3 from my previous Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
I absolutley hate this new system and after asking tesco to reinstall the older version Im told it cant be done.
Anyone know a way to revert my phone back to as it was before.

stoff 26-05-2012 10:26 AM

I'm still waiting for T Mobile to upgrade mine to Gingerbread! I'm assuming you've tried factory reset

bodgit 26-05-2012 10:34 AM

Once the OS is installed it resets to that. I just got it back from tesco repair centre and specifically asked them to reinstall my old OS system but they told me it cant be done..
Got on the phone to samsung and they say "officially it cant be reversed" but maybe I should look online. Thats all he would say.
Previously you were able to delete single items from the google search history by pressing and holding the selected item and delete, but now the new google black stores the last 5 with no option to delete any single item from history. Its just annoying that you cant choose what to keep.

You need to root the phone and then install the Rom you want. Plenty of guides online.

Thanks for that info but after doing some reading it seems if I root it, it would void the warrenty and Its already been back twice in the last 6-7 weeks.
Before we proceed, it's important that we outline the risks involved here. Although in the case of the Galaxy S2 the rooting process is usually reversible, messing about with the inner-workings of your phone's software immediately invalidates your warranty. It may break your phone completely. CNET UK takes no responsibility for any harm that may befall your beloved handset as a consequence of you acting on the steps we've outlined below.
Looks like Im stuck with it.

Sorry to hijack.....

Stoff, T Mobile UK have released it but you need to connect your phone to a PC with Kies to have the upgrade as it isn't being released 'over the air' like the HTC phones I had before this S2 were.

I've tried that, but my computer says (via Kies) that my phone in not upgradeable...

Defeats the object I want to keep my favourites like oople in the list but this new os even lists your txts. Why do that when theres a call log for that. Its a mess. If you havent updated yet, trust me dont.

4_cell_racer 27-05-2012 06:21 PM

I too don't like the new Os system on my O2 G2 :-/

9 times out of 10 when I press the home key the voice search comes up which is getting on my wick!!!!

And going from previous phones I've owned....once you upgrade the Os that's it, your stuck with it :( wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to upgrade my G2 now :(

Strange, that's how I upgraded mine.

The short cut for voice talk is a quick double press of the home key. I do that too every now and then and despite searching around the phone settings I can't find a way of turning it off

OneKiwi 27-05-2012 06:44 PM

You can get rid of it. You have to download ESexplorer i think its called then delete the voice.

and this is what Kies says:

Phone was purchased unlocked from Tesco with a T-Mobile contract simcard. Anyone know how I can upgrade to 4.0.3?

Also... that's not my phonenumber.
Neither is this:

Interesting (if a little over my head) reading there. Seems a few others are in the same boat with phones from tesco.

Phone has never been flashed/rooted or returned to a samsung service centre.
CSC shows XEU which (according to your links) the update has been released for.
Seems that my choices are to return it to a samsung service centre of flash it via odin...
My head's swimming with new terminology... where can I find the correct version of ICS for my phone (assuming I decide to go that route)?

bodgit 31-05-2012 06:08 AM

Col give the tesco customer service team a ring. They should be able to help you out but once you download 4.0.3 your stuck with it and its awful imo. If you know someone who has it on their mobile ask them for a demo.

OneKiwi 31-05-2012 06:23 AM

Tesco should help you, especially if they unlocked it
Why don't you like it? If its only to do with the browser thing then add another browser.

I really like mine and with Go Launcher you can customise a lot

You can try and find the official update.zip (its somewhere on xda developers) and put that on your sd card and just re-flash it using that. It doesn't need root or anything fancy as its a standard boot loader so it will just take it.

Am sure you can go backwards using the same method. Ask the question on XDA developers and see what they say.
