Shooting RCs with DSLR: What lens(es)?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of selecting (and buying) a new DSLR. One of the things I'll do with it is shoot pictures and video footage of RC cars (of course).

I've shot one time now at a track event - I do recall using my 70-200mm lens, but I don't know in what part of the range I was using it. Anyone who has suggestions on what lenses are handy for this sort of job? :) I'll make sure I get a body with sharp senses (fast AF ans such), so that part should be no problem!

RC Tracks aren't too big so I would have thought the 70-200 or a 70-300 would be ideal, obviously thought you loose quality to a degree with a zoom and I've got no idea if a 300 fixed would be too close some of the time or if a 200 wouldn't be close enough some of the time.

If you're thinking of getting a very good lens perhaps better to try and borrow a similar one off a friend or pay out for hire and see how you get on before you commit to it ?

Jimmy's shots are always good, would be worth talking to him and seeing what set up he uses.

Jimmy has created a very informative page here on oOple on how to capture racing. It also states lenses and settings too.

It's here - http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/artic...to1/index.html
