Mini 8 Rally/drifter
As some of you will know, every year at WORM we run a summer series for micros that have been converted to WRC rally cars.
This usually takes the form of a Shark chassis with a Phat bodies "Banzai Mini" body mounted on top, and a set of foam tyres with MB inner tube "donuts" stretched over to give a kind of drifty/rally car feel to the driving. We run each race as a specific rally, and try to build a track and surface to match the type of rally that the country runs. So Rally Sweden would be run on a fully polished floor to give a very slippy feel as if running on snow Rally Germany would have carpet laid down on a flat track to simulate a grippy type of rally. Last night we ran "The Monte Carlo Rally" so was mostly polished floor with a few table ramps to simulate the Italian Alps you get the picture Anyway .... up until now we have only ever used the Sharks as drifters, but I'm a lazy sod sometimes and decided it would be easier to mount my Mini body on my Losi Mini8 cos all my radio gear was already installed. All I had to do was make up a couple of body mounts front and back with a couple of pieces of plastic sheet, I used some polypropylene I had laying around. The Mini 8 is a little wider than the Shark so the tyres/wheels do "poke" a little but I like the look. Have a look at the pics and let me know what you think Oh and BTW, the Mini 8 makes an awesome drifter !! http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/6963/dsc04003k.jpg http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2371/dsc04004bs.jpg http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/2402/dsc04006oj.jpg http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/6467/dsc04007bb.jpg http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3695/dsc04009l.jpg http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2109/dsc04011fq.jpg |

How COOL is that!!! :woot:

Is that what you called the table top in the corner. If you had no speed you didnt get up it. Momentum was deffo the key top it. And i think theyd polished the floor as i would of had more grip running just rims.

si , you need to do this body in 200mm 10th scale ! indoors on polished boards with a 200mm rally/tourer car this would look ace

Hey Mr Speedy, i really like your idea of a mini 8 rally car, so i copied your idea.
But instead of making new bodyposts holders, i've drilled 2 holes in my rear T-bone bumper and shortened the front T-bone bumper and drilled also 2 holes in it to mount the bodyposts. I really like the way the t-bone rear bumper looks like a kind of diffuser ;-) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1...2023.00.17.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-P...2023.01.44.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s...2023.03.58.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4...2023.08.13.jpg |
Nice work .. tho so sure about some of those stickers :p
.... now get some inner tubes on those foams for some proper drifting action ... and let me know what you think it then  |
i will post some recent photo's soon, i took my mini apart yesterday due to a worn pinion and spurgear.
I 've put some decals on it. I did'nt tried the innertube yet. |
