Hi,how can i remove my old tyres of rims,cheers maurice.

acetone in a air tight tub

Buy some Pure acetone off ebay(or a local supplier), get a air tight sandwich box(i use a paint tin), pour some into the tin, it doesn't have to cover the tyres as the fumes do the work for you, seal the lid & leave for a few days, open & peal the tyres off, job done :D

Another way is to put them in the oven at180c for 8 mins. Then just crack the tyres off. Good if your in a hurry, BUT will get you moaned at for using HER oven to do non cooking things that will almost certainly mean the end of the universe. And will make a bit of a smell. Also discolours your wheels a bit. I use both. Acetone normally, oven in a hurry. And man up.

I was told about the boiling method recently. Bring a pan to the boil, drop the wheels in, 20mins both sides, drop in to cold water, remove tyres. If some bits are stubborn do as much as you can then drop them back in for a few more minutes. Use an old pan as the wheel dye can come out and the old glue can stick to the pan sides.

I've gone back to old school boiling method... can do a set in 10/15 minutes and the rims clean up easy too, acetone works very well but takes longer and still have to clean wheels up, some glues are easier to remove than others and leave a cleaner rim too.

I use Schuey MR33 tyre glue which comes off cleaner with boiling... left a yellow gunky residue with acetone!

Don't use the finest saucepan you have for boiling, go buy a big cheapo one and just use it for doing tyres, boiling rubber/plastic/superglue will produce nasty smells too so open the windows/ extractor on etc!

Bit of salt in the water raises boiling point so hotter temperature and quicker reaction with glue dissolving.

Would never do the oven method, burning superglue gives off cyanide gas and burning rubber stinks too! plus there is chance you will melt wheels and the family wouldn't be too happy if their home baked/roasted goodies started tasting like your favoured compound of minispikes!

Acetone method by far the easiest method (I've tried all ways)
Don't pay rediculous eBay prices for weak solution acetone, Belsten (nuclear rc) sells it,look him up on here.

Remember to wear some glasses or other eye protection as, I'm told, acetone stings in your eyes like the flames of hell!

Brut force and ignorance works for me, rip them off, then use a small square file to take off the remanents. Super clean rim, no discolouration, no fumes. Works for me.

+1 for that method. I was using the other ones like acetone and really I find them a hassle in the longer term.

For some old yz10 rims and tyres I used a sharp pair of scissors (e.g. Ones for lexan) and basically cut through the tyres. Then "peeled" off the tyres with brute force and cleaned up the remnants.

It does take longer but I personally cont be doing with fumes and chemicals now!

200 degree oven for a few mins works a treat for me!

Just make sure you're not cooking the dinner at the same time;)

in the oven is quick, but the smell is very very very bad and stays around a loooong time; not recommended ;)

I use 100% pure acetone and works great, sealed conainer, i use one that you can fit 8 wheels/tyres in, a cm of acetone in the bottom, come back 36 hours later, they peel off. done. wheels clean and ready for the new lot. give the wheels a wash to remove any bits left.

Alos the boiling works to. but prefer acetone.....:woot:

I use nail varnish remover to strip mine!
I always used to use the wifes but found that it always gave me a cold dinner and black eye!:woot: so now I use the supermarket own brand with the highest content!

The best advice if you do use the oven is to just not get caught!:thumbsup:
