2WD or 4WD?

i am after a buggy, what should i get 2WD or 4WD?

it is to race on polished wood floor, and to bash about with.

it will have a brushless (in time)

post any links or info here.

Garry Driffill 13-04-2008 03:16 PM

4wd is generally easier all round, But 2wd is where you will learn more driving wise i would say with it only being rear wheel drive..

if you want somthing quick and looks awsome maybe the 4WD, Predator XRS from Xtreme ?

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...tter/dirty.jpg

doesnt cost a bomb and if youre on polish floor sit the car nice a low and it will be ace :)

rcluke 13-04-2008 03:31 PM

what are the differences between the XRS and the X10?

ashleyb4 13-04-2008 03:37 PM

If you want somehting that looks awful and is slow and has as much ride height as a touring car and breaks when you sneeze yes i agree with garry get a xrs.

IMO you would be much much much betteroff with 2wd in every way. Everyone knows the best looking 2wd out there is the xxx-cr and its also the best performing easy to drive and strong.

rcluke 13-04-2008 03:42 PM

so that means, dont get the XRS and get the losi XXX-CR

how is the XXXCR better than the B4?

Have you ever owned a Pred Ash?

Or even seen one?

rcluke 13-04-2008 04:28 PM

is the pred XRS the same sort of spec as the ZX5 RTR ?

markwilliamson2001 13-04-2008 04:29 PM

From my experience of driving with a 2wd on polished floor, it is not fun in any way...

Best get a cheap'ish 4wd buggy if your going to be on polished floor regularly. The B44, Hotbodies D4, or the Lazer ZX-5 SP would be the best options for you I think.

rcluke 13-04-2008 04:31 PM

if the B44 and D4 are cheap, what are expensive 4WD buggy's?

Atomic Carbon S4 & S44
Schumacher Cat SX
BJ4 WE
Predator X11

I could go on...

Ashley.. i see for once you didnt recomend a xx4. But offer maybe the worst most expensive 2wd on the market.

Please dont comment on the XRS like you have owned one. I really wouldnt say it was slow LOL, Luke there is a short video of an XRS here : http://video.aol.com/video-detail/tt...car/2554272685

The XRS has a few different features towards the X10. The rockers are make from plastic also the arms and chasis are made from plastic i beleive. all of the X10 parts will fit on this and some of the X11 upgrades too if you wanted to take it to the next level.

ok lol,

would the b44 / zx5 be good for the occasional bash?

rcluke 13-04-2008 05:07 PM

i think it might be a b4 that i get, because i dont think i would be able to bash a c/f 4wd buggy. a b4 is just plastic or carbon composite

Col 13-04-2008 05:27 PM

For cheap bashing, get a durga or zx5 (not the sp)

For cheap racing get a durga or zx5.

2WD will be a nightmare for the inexperienced driver on polished floor - avoid like the plague...

There are so many good cars out there, it does not really matter what you get, but a good bash car is usually not a good race car, and vice versa

rcluke 13-04-2008 06:55 PM

what about a XX4 for bashing and racing?

mattym0310 13-04-2008 06:56 PM

i wudn't recommend them, I have seen them break all too many times and belt's snapping is a frequent issue aswell.

Garry Driffill 13-04-2008 06:58 PM

mattym0310 13-04-2008 07:56 PM

Yes, the s2 looks very nice, and I guess it drives pretty good but is way too expensive for bashing.

A B4 would be your best bet IMO, if you are sensible with your motor choice there's nothing hard about driving a 2wd on wood floor :)

2wd will be cheaper to buy, run and fix. Also there's less that can go wrong so they are more beginner friendly than a 4wd car would be.

How much experience do you have, and how much equipment do you have now or are you starting from scratch?

Chrislong 13-04-2008 08:16 PM

Im sorry Luke but the type of question you asked will always lead to many different opinions.

The fact is, all the cars are built for a purpose and all are capable of serving that purpose for what you want. Ofcause you will find the limits of the cheaper cars sooner, but again, each of them is upgradable.

What I recommend is to buy a "Racer" magazine, and then attend your local club. Don't be afraid of asking the people there, and watch which cars are doing okay etc..

My recommendation for your purpose is a RC10B4- RTR. RTR stands for ready to Run, and it is just that. You may need to change the tyres to suit where you race it but you will always need to do that with any kit anyway. In time the RC10B4-RTR can be upgraded as you improve and it can then either be upgraded and left as an RC10B4, converted into the S2 or you can choose the best car which ofcause is the X-6

Thanks Ash. Don't get me wrong, the XXX-CR which you recommend is a great car, but for Luke to choose one he'd then have a servo, ESC, Motor, cells, transmitter & more to buy, and a novice may be put off by that potential minefield of purchases, but with an RTR its all included - he will just need a 12v to charge from and stuff for his own comforts such as toolbox, table & chair - but not essential for first meeting.

ashleyb4 13-04-2008 08:29 PM

Totally agree chris the rtr would be much simpler. And i cant take form the b4 i always loved mine i cant come to sell it lol

Just to pont out, he already races touring cars at TRCC every week and is doing quite well ;) just iv pursuaded him to get a buggy

andy05 13-04-2008 08:35 PM

I wasnt saying he should get on just pointing out to ash its the best looking:thumbsup:

Jonny_H 13-04-2008 08:36 PM

But he has said it's for polished floor. I'd be really wary of recommending a 2WD for that. It might be a recipe for getting very frustrated very quickly...

ashleyb4 13-04-2008 08:38 PM

Yea but a 4wd will proberly be more fraustrating with hving to skim motors and repair it as a 4wd is much higher minternance.

Iv just ordered a 5.5 but id prefer to be using a 6.5 at TRCC, 5.5 is better for me outdoors though.

i have been racing for about a year, i have all of the gear.
i used to have a B4 factory team, and i am not bothered about buying a servo and other electronics (because i have quite a bit of knowledge about them)

How much is an X6 conversion, i was gonna convert my old B4, but i sold it in the need of funds

Its not just motor mainernance rebuild between most meetings to make sure the drive chain is runnign freely checking for worn cvd's also parts are generally more exspensive. I thought 4wd would be easy with brushless but it isnt.

Aero and B4 are my reccomendations while were just saying what cars we run:thumbdown:

I think the pred is the one though, its AEROdynamically the fastest car ever made and is unrivalled in suspension travel:thumbsup:
