Southport this Sunday (13/4)

Whose going then. Think I'm gonna be there doing the guest class.

Anyone have any ideas what time it starts as its a NW Regional?

bigred5765 10-04-2008 01:30 AM

we will be there 2wd and 4wd hehe

Lee 10-04-2008 06:59 AM

Guest class for me too Tom:thumbsup:

I think the NW regionals are pretty sensible, usually a 10am start i seem to remember.

Im sure Paul or stu will let us know, the later the better for me:thumbsup:

Kecky 10-04-2008 08:01 AM

I'll be there for 4wd.

burgie 10-04-2008 08:06 AM

10:00am? Bloody Hell that's an early start!!

I think racing will start at around 11:00/11:30 but I will confirm that tomorrow.

There will be a model shop in attendance I believe, and the usual SRCC canteen will be in attendance too.

Lee 10-04-2008 08:07 AM

Even better:thumbsup:

quincey 10-04-2008 05:48 PM

im going too.my 1st year of regionals:):)

burgie 10-04-2008 08:59 PM

we are indeed aiming to get racing underway by 11.30.....so you can get there at a sensible time!

Stu 10-04-2008 09:45 PM

In previous years drivers have been there mid morning for for booking in and practice. Round one about 11.00.

Chrislong 10-04-2008 10:39 PM

Anyone mind if I use Lipo? if so, how about if I race without scoring points?

I'll be coming for a sausage and egg butty rain or shine, the only difference being, shine = im racing too.:thumbsup:

craigosh 10-04-2008 10:46 PM

Think its cool to run Lipo if your not scoring points Chris, dont see why it wouldnt be. Eric had put it up on the calender but i think he's changed it recently and not put it back on.

Kecky 11-04-2008 07:09 AM

There is a post on the the SRCC Site, that says you can run Lipo's if you want to, but you will not be elibable to score points towards your licence grade.

Richard Lowe 11-04-2008 08:27 AM

I'm coming too, this is turning into a NE regional

nobby 11-04-2008 12:09 PM

is heat one on the line 11:00 no sooner as a few of us are coming down from jarrow club.

if the first heat starts at 11:00 we don't have to set off until 07:30 ish:thumbsup:

can we book in on the day or should we contact anyone?(if so who?)

cheers lads.

jimmy 11-04-2008 12:49 PM

we'll be there if the weather is OK

burgie 11-04-2008 12:53 PM

If you get there for 11:00, then i would say you will be in plenty of time for the racing - as i said earlier in this thread, racing is due to start at around 11:30.

You can book in on the day too - e:mail your details to [email protected] so i can get them pre-booked for you.

I'm pretty sure there will be a "guest" class, so those people who are running lipo or do not want to score NW points will run in seperate finals. More than likely there will be enough "guests" to run seperate classes during qualifying as well.

Great event, run well too.

Can I use this post to criticise the track? The 4 stone lines / ripples, which have been placed on the left hander are aweful. I know the grass/soil there is very weak and it cuts up badly and those stones protect it, but instead it is rutting up after the stones and that corner is still horrible.

But the track has a heck of a lot which is right, and I love racing on it overall. The other new features are all excellent, and the new astroworks well.

you can use this thread to criticise if you have to....but you know me well enough to tell me instead of me having to read it

...but i digress - the ripples were an experiment to try to reduce the wear on that corner, and they are an experiment that failed. I am quite sure that section of track will see a lot of change prior to the national to get it just right, so don't fret - that area will be sorted out.

Glad you like the majority of the track though.

Chrislong 13-04-2008 08:21 PM

Hey Chris, sorry mate. What, with the drains I thought you may be pushed over the edge with any further critism. but don't get me wrong, im loving racing on the track :)

Did you get my emails in the week btw? I resent them from home... anyway im just being lazy now, I should have sent a PM or asked you earlier.

burgie 13-04-2008 08:25 PM

lol don't worry Chris, I have broad shoulders!

That bloke was lucky Claire was being diplomatic, wasn't he?

I'll check the e:mails now - not been online all that much!

Cockerill 13-04-2008 08:25 PM

I had a word with you about the bit I didn't like Chris, other than that the track is great and is improving, all the new features were really good. I wasn't really too fussed about the paving Chris mentioned but it did cut the track up, looks like you already have plans for that tho which is good.

Well done to all involved

You did, and all input is welcomed - we will try to get everything spot-on. At the moment i think we are about 90% of the way there, but it will be 110% for the national!

Richard Lowe 13-04-2008 08:35 PM

The track was great today, the new line and profile over the middle tabletop/hump thingy is really good. I had a quick go on the new doubles after the final and they're really good too :)
I actually quite liked the ripples on the left hander there was a definite line over them that was fast, they were a little bit random at times, how about making them slightly smaller? If you want to stop the grass cutting up there you need to stop cars accelerating on it, the ripples probably made the problem worse as you go slower over them than if it were just a corner ;)

Chrislong 13-04-2008 08:42 PM

I think they started off Lowe when I first saw them, then the grass around them got chewed a bit.. is that right CB?

ben 13-04-2008 09:03 PM

Track was good today. Well the 2 rounds i finished.;). Liked the new features. And i also had a go on the new doubles and the tabletop after the finals had finished and i was impressed. Good work southport:thumbsup:.

ben

bigred5765 13-04-2008 09:08 PM

worked ok at first

That corner used to wear very heavily right on the apex, the ripples were to encourage people to coast the corner rather than previously where there was hard brakes and acceleration. The ripples have protected the corner, but moved the wear further up.

All the grass areas are going to need looking at.... one problem was the early easter weekend, which means we started racing before the grass had got back into growing season. So it was already pretty thin before we started. Normally when we open on easter weekend the grass has had a couple of weeks growing time and looks like a meadow!

craigosh 13-04-2008 09:17 PM

 glad everyone likes the features we all came up with

Glad to here people liked the doubles, spent a bit of time sweating them.

Think that bloke was brave shouting at me with a spade in my hand :D

That hole after the ripples was pretty big, surprised it didnt eat my car like they usually do.

Anyone with any other comments on the track drop me or Burgie a PM and we'll take it into consideration.

Chrislong 13-04-2008 09:18 PM

That and the ground under the grass is very light and sandy, means we chew it easy unfortunatley.
