mini rc helicopter?

What's a good small rc helicopter? Someone at work got some toysRus thing for 20 quid and it's quite fun - tho doesn't have the full controls (whatever the technical term is) but only power and left/right.

I know nowt about these things but I fancy some sort of lil helicopter as it's quite a laugh bashing this thing off stuff.

Any ideas? what have people got?
I don't wanna get all crazy and start buying micro servos and all that madness. Just somet cheap and RTR

Lee 03-04-2008 01:42 PM

I have a Blade CX2

It comes with lipo and spektrum and chargers obviously, ready to fly for about £120 i think.

It is ace. Blades and stuff are easy and cheap to get hold of, i would highly recommend it:thumbsup:

jimmy 03-04-2008 01:44 PM

how big is it? I wan't somet to fly indoors when I'm sick of reviewing or doing reports - somet I can try land on vickys head without chopping it off would be a bonus.

jim76 03-04-2008 01:45 PM

the picco Z is the most common micro heli, probably what your mate has - they are around £20

If you want "full controls" when the e-flite blade CX2 is one of the most common. Full 4 ch control, 2.4ghz control, lipo etc. ready to fly at about £110 (maybe cheaper on ebay second hand)

not sure whats available in between prices though.

Lee 03-04-2008 01:46 PM

its no more than a foot long, i fly it in the living room occasionally, the kids are scared of it, its well worth the money:woot:

jim76 03-04-2008 01:47 PM

it's about 12 inches long, rota diameter about 12-14 inch?

jim76 03-04-2008 01:51 PM

I reckon the Blade CX2 is the one to have, but have a look here:

http://www.servoshop.co.uk/index.php...%20Helicopters

There's a load to choose from, and the staff ;) have plenty of experience with them......

jimmy 03-04-2008 03:04 PM

is the blade cx2 too big for in a house? are the smaller copters no good?

losixxx 03-04-2008 03:05 PM

blade's ugly, ive got the lama iv, cracking little heli, fully RTR with lipo and charger plus tx £90 or less usually

Jimmy the blade is fine for the house, i have flown it at my mums and in mine, i reckon it would be fine in most living rooms

jimmy 03-04-2008 03:08 PM

that does look nice, I prefer a bit of realism haha.
What's the difference in control between all these models? I don't know owt about choppers really:cry:

losixxx 03-04-2008 03:12 PM

ive flown both at CDS found the lama much more responsive and better outdoor's blus you can get loads of different body's/bling for it....

RLGfx 03-04-2008 03:18 PM

the little bell 47 from century is a bit of a pig to fly to be honest, the blade is really stable, and i've flown one in an area about 5 foot square with no real difficulty (though i've flown helis a bit) a decent sized living/bed/dining room is ideal for these, and if there's no wind they can be used outside too.

Another choice is the twister Medevac, which comes with a simulator and spare blades, as well as a lipo voltage warning light, MOPS system to save the motors in a crash, and you can hum the MASH theme tune while you fly it... and it's cheaper than the blade...

twisty 03-04-2008 04:29 PM

For in the house i have a picco Z and for the hall/barn(or outdoors when it is totally still)or when i go racing(if aloud) i have the Blade CX2,i like the look of the Blade (2 new body sets available now)and it`s spectrum and lipo,a great stepping stone to flying something more realistic.

jimmy 05-04-2008 02:42 PM

I probably made a mistake but I got a Walkera 4#3 thingy. No doubt I'll really struggle with it and smack it into everything:lol: I was up till mega late last night looking at various helicopter sites and videos on youtube like a nutter. The Blade cx2 looks rather good but I can't afford it :( see how this one goes, how hard can it be! :bored:

I mainly got the walkera cos it looks funny haha, or it will after I've 'oOpleChoppered' it

CraigM2610 05-04-2008 03:49 PM

hi there
I was wondering if there were any R/C helis that were smaller than about 250mm with "full controls".
I saw this 1: http://www.apexmodels.com/product-se...ories&id=13968 but didnt think it had four channel.
Does anyone know of any others??

jimmy 05-04-2008 06:28 PM

That walkera I bought has 'full controls' and is 180mm or something.

ashleyb4 05-04-2008 06:30 PM

CraigM2610 05-04-2008 08:39 PM

Awesome very tempted lol thanks Ash

ashleyb4 05-04-2008 08:46 PM

There cool little helli's the transmitter IMO seems pretty pro looking not really ceap plastic metal controls etc. and comes with spare blades the only problem i have found is the skids bend slightly if you have a heavy landing but there only piano wire so they just bend back if you want.

CraigM2610 10-04-2008 06:14 PM

Jimmy, i dunno how small you mean in 'mini', but there isn't one smaller than this: http://www.proxflyer.com/pi_meny.htm
SMALLEST HELI IN THE WORLD

It has an immense flying time of 30 SECONDS :thumbsup:

What d'you guys think?!:thumbsup:or:thumbdown:

Here's a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT9dM...eature=related

jimmy 11-04-2008 09:32 AM

I think I might lose that

jimmy 17-04-2008 10:47 PM

Well I played with my lil ooplechopper tonight for the first time and didn't manage to break him yet - yay! I'll get some photos up soon when I've repainted and stickered him up, but he's quite cool but hard as heck to fly. I think I managed about 5 seconds hovering on my third charge.

rcracer 17-04-2008 10:54 PM

just watched one on youtube they look ace

purpletimbo 21-04-2008 05:54 PM

If you just want a cheap one to muck about with, they have finally got the little £20 or so ones, with 3Ch available, i got one from ebay in a week £15 delivered, contra rotating blades, and a 3rd channel for forward backward via a rear upright rotor, only infrared, but mint round the kitchen.

stunning........

jimmy 25-04-2008 01:01 PM

ooplechopper is in a poorly state, nothing broken (amazingly) but I took him into the warehouse at work and so I had even more room to lose control and slam him into the concrete floor. I'm convinced it's impossible to fly a helicopter!

ashleyb4 25-04-2008 01:04 PM

I think we should all get our helicopters meet at a indoor meeting and see if we tie them all togerther and see if we can lift something or someone.:p:p

dirtrider 25-04-2008 02:05 PM

Before whacking it I strongly suggest you use a simulator first... it really helps :)

jimmy 25-04-2008 02:06 PM

I got a cable for mi transmitter but it didnt work  so I just thought I'd carry on trying.. smacking it off the concrete floor wasn't so good tho.

Lew 29-04-2008 07:49 PM

i ordered my Picoo Z last night.. got payed friday so im spending :D ... should come tomorow .. cant wait :D gonna piss my mum of with it sooooo much hahaha
