Paint by Magoo

Been really lazy photographing my shells of late, so in an effort to change all that here are a couple I knocked up this week for myself (for once!). New colours for a new car this season, the Kyosho shell is a straigh Pavidis replica as I love his colours, went a bit more custom on the Bulldog...

Photo's aren't the best... need to do some work on that really. Plus I need to remember to take photo's before shipping them out:lol:

MrMagoo 30-12-2012 05:26 PM

Been a bit lazy with updates to this , so here's a couple of my latest shells.

The spray booth's kind of empty right now, so please PM me if you're looking for new paint for the coming season!

I've also started a blog (http://paintbymagoo.blogspot.co.uk/) where I'll be posting information about my current and completed work, as well as general RC and painting stuff. Please feel free to drop in and say hi!

eyeayen 30-12-2012 08:36 PM

Great designs John, lovely and neat, crisp and super clear as I've yours on the track and it works from a distance as well as looking great up close on the pit table. Fantastic pin lines !

MrMagoo 01-01-2013 07:41 PM

A couple more, first up a replica of the DEX410R box art scheme (this ones for sale ATM)

http://images15.fotki.com/v587/photo...Ig79x9R-vi.jpg

And my (in)famous '24 hour' shell. Customer hand delivered it Friday night, and raced it Sunday morning...

MrMagoo 04-01-2013 08:08 PM

http://images60.fotki.com/v661/photo..._195041-vi.jpg

I'll get some better pictures when it's light outside...

MrMagoo 05-01-2013 10:59 AM

Just finished up this 'all in one' mid-motor DEX210 shell... it doesn't have a home so it's in the For Sale section!

http://images49.fotki.com/v571/photo...SCN2284-vi.jpg

http://images60.fotki.com/v778/photo...SCN2268-vi.jpg

And this X2C shell is also up for sale... the flake green at the back looks amazing in sunlight!

http://images56.fotki.com/v168/photo...SCN2275-vi.jpg

MrMagoo 12-01-2013 03:21 PM

Not a new one, but I found this while looking through some older photos, it's still one of my favorite shells I've sprayed.

MrMagoo 20-01-2013 12:28 PM

Latest customer shell, DEX210 Bulldog with RCS Candy Red to match the Tresrey parts. The photos don't do Jon's candy paints justice... when the sun hit's them they are plain amazing!

http://images60.fotki.com/v661/photo...SCN2329-vi.jpg

http://images16.fotki.com/v258/photo...SCN2331-vi.jpg

AndyG 20-01-2013 02:36 PM

nice ... what did you back Jon's candy red with to get that colour?

MrMagoo 20-01-2013 02:49 PM

Cheers Andy. It's backed with AutoAir aluminium base - course followed by Creatix pearl silver and then black. The AA is a pain to use as it tends to 'gum up' the liquid mask for some reason, but it gives an epic metal flake effect in the sun.

MrMagoo 26-01-2013 08:32 AM

Some fresh paint for Si Trace, using RCS Candy red to tie into the Tresrey parts on his Durango...

http://images14.fotki.com/v373/photo..._104344-vi.jpg

http://images43.fotki.com/v679/photo...1043281-vi.jpg

And another one that went out this week, another DB1... lots of blending and fading of blues and purples on the back

http://images49.fotki.com/v569/photo...SCN2333-vi.jpg

http://images55.fotki.com/v648/photo...SCN2335-vi.jpg

Ross 26-01-2013 10:37 AM

I'm waiting in all day for it :)

Thanks again John for the quick turnaround

The candy red backs with Chrome mate, nice work !

The last one for Ross looks great too but I suspect would be much much nicer in the flesh.

Thanks Ian, yeah, Ross' shell loses a lot of the subtlety in the photos. The white has pearl white carbon blended into it which you only see when the light hits it... fun!

Today's job has been a Supastox Ascari shell, which was great fun for a bit of a change.

The white fade on the edge of the blue before it goes to the black is real nice John !

How come you didn't do any lights on it ?

Nice colour scheme though !

Cheers Ian. Lights will on as stickers I think... I was going to spray them but the shell's a real pain! No masks at all, and no markings for windows/lights/anything. Trying to get it all symmetrical and even was a PITA, it was like trying to paint a bar of soap:lol:

The Chef 26-01-2013 10:07 PM

Nice John I really like the super stocks shell. Tried a similar effect on a losi shell but My scalpel work wasn't on form. Tricky little shells to pain. Top marks. Hope to see you at torch soon when it warms up. My hips cant cope with the cold.

Frost 26-01-2013 11:17 PM

Hi there

Where abouts are you based? I'm in Gloucester and looking for someone to do me a shell for my supastox. Would it be something your interested In doing? Typically how much would it cost as a rough guide? Thanks andy

MrMagoo 09-02-2013 04:37 PM

Cheers guys! Andy, sorry I missed your post mate, if you're still interested please drop me a PM and we can chat... Chef, know what you mean about the cold, murder on my knees, here's hoping we get a decent summer this year lol.

Here's todays up date, an 1/8th Mugen MBX-7 fresh out of the booth!

The photo's don't show just how bright the yellow is... you're gonna see this one coming. The rest of the day's been spent designing and cutting mask ready to get spraying again tommorrow:D

MrMagoo 10-02-2013 02:20 PM

Got Skullz?

Only managed to get one (not great!) photo before this one was collected, fun to work on an 8th again, and get some stencilling in as well...

eyeayen 17-02-2013 06:10 PM

That looks cool John !!! Chrome's a bugger to photograph isn't it ?

MrMagoo 17-02-2013 07:39 PM

Cheers Ian! Yup, chromes a nightmare all round... worst to photograph and trickiest to paint :wtf:

Best part of this shell is that the photo's were taken seven hours after I took delivery of it. Not my normal service, and why it's a little bit plainer than it might have been, but with Off-raod wars next weekend, my painting week is already full up:thumbsup:

eyeayen 17-02-2013 11:57 PM

You've done good mate, I couldn't turn stuff around that quick.

When I see you track side next I'll have a chat with you about the photography, see if I can help you out in any way with it.

MrMagoo 18-02-2013 07:17 AM

Cheers Ian, main issue at the moment is that I'm using my phone lol

Main camera is out of action ATM, need to get it sorted and then get some better photos... At some point I want to knock up a small light-box as well to even out the illumination which I think would help.

eyeayen 18-02-2013 01:09 PM

Phones can take pefectly decent pictures if all you want to show the pictures on is the web. They'll probably print okay up to about A4 too.

Light tents and Boxes are okay, but not all their cracked up to be, that can flatted subjects off a lot but the illumination will be more even.

MrMagoo 14-03-2013 08:32 PM

Well after an enforced (car accident) enforced layoff, I'm finally back painting... here's an Aston SupaStox shell I've just finished up. I think the design is originally a Mike Parker, customer has two off road shells and wanted this one to match!

makinwaves 14-03-2013 09:07 PM

All masked up Mark, hoping to get started on them later next week!

For tonight, something clean and simple for Dan Brown's XB4... seems like a popular car, got a couple more waiting in line for people:thumbsup:. Sat on the drier straight after completion, I'll shoot some better pictures later on.
