Nooooooo ANOTHER UGLY f1

Why from the land of the worlds leading fashion stylists did they release this lego car

That Ferrari is truely ugly! What are they thinking?!?! That step in the front looks aweful...unless they are thinking downforce...but I don't know enough about that subject to know if that shape is good or bad?!?!

I've not kept up with the rule changes for next year so far...but sad to see the stupid front wings haven't been changed! They seriously need to reduce the widths of them to help the drivers out...it's no wonder they clash so often with that much bodywork on the corners that they can't see to judge! They are just dangerous IMO.

Still yet to figure out if there is a cheap way to watch it this year too....sooooo sad to see sky f@#king things right up this year...bad times :(

Chrislong 03-02-2012 10:30 AM

Damn the 2012 cars are ugly! Can't wait to see which other manufacturers choose this route of madness. They ought to dock the team some points for making HD TV viewing a dissadvantage for viewers.

hansie 03-02-2012 10:36 AM

Hello all,

The Ferrari and the caterham aren't lookers thats for sure.....
The Force India has gone down the same route.........
But hey, if it's fast..................

Greetings

Hans

Suddenly the Caterham looks pretty. At least we know who's to blame, the FIA wanted to bring the chassis front down to match the nose but the teams wouldn't allow it.

Well we just have to put up with this for a year, in 2014 the front of the nose has to be even lower so we should see more cars looking like the Mclaren.

The cheap way is to watch all the races for free on the BBC, even if they are just highlights and Sky have run off with all the decent people leaving the BBC with Jake, Eddie and David - serves the BBC right. Messes up trying to watch with live timing alongside though. I will be trying to watch live using online streams, the same way I watch alms, indycars and nascar now.

i4n 03-02-2012 12:08 PM

If you already have sky TV but not the sport channels (like me), if you go for their HD pack you'll get the F1 channel.

May help some people out as the HD is cheaper then the sprorts.

Chris56 03-02-2012 12:14 PM

I blame Team Xtreme and their Vega Shell, unfortunately the F1 cars don't have a suitable front shock tower to hide that ugly bump!

That's a great video...look forward to more of that kind of insight this year...good work BBC

I too am of the mind to ignore the sky option as I have no other interest in using Sky...but in the name of research I have just looked, and I might be wrong but it looks like you get Sky TV without any of their channel packages except the HD pack, which should then include the F1 channel for £10.25 per month with a free +HD box?!?

It's still £10 per month, but it's not as expensive I thought it might be if you leave out all the options they try to sell you normally.

That is of course unless I've got it wrong and you need the basic entertainment package...at £20 per month...to receive the free to air channels?!?!?

We've got bog standard sky, if we upgrade to HD (£10 a month), you get the F1 channel included.

F1 channel is free if you have sports or HD packages.

£10 a month if you dont

blue_pinky 03-02-2012 12:27 PM

Sorry...a little off topic now I know, but that's Interesting...and what does bog standard sky cost you?

I 'think' it's about £25 quid a month (ish)

EDIT: There's a £20 package which doesn't include documentaries etc

Booo...that's what I was worried about...never mind...back on topic now...:)

Looking at the force India you have to wonder what they have done to keep the crumple zone in the front with such a thin nose, there a hell of a loss of material there.

BBC still have 10 races live (the good ones) and extended highlights for the others (like the valencia snorefest for example).

So the cheap way is to watch them for free.

It really isn't difficult to work out.

I don't think you could have been more wrong there if you tried!

They're not showing the first TWO races of the season live, and the opening weekend is what we wait nearly 4 months for, and out of the 10 races they have, it's only really Monaco, Silverstone and Spa that i would consider the 'good ones'.

Also, they're showing the 'snorefest' LIVE as per their web page... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/race-calendar/ to further show they know how to pick a decent race to broadcast!

I'm gonna watch this season on Sky, and before people moan about the additional cost, personally, i think the cost is value for many considering i don't have to listen to the blabbering idiot that is Eddie Jordan!

pieterke 03-02-2012 03:53 PM

please someone take the ferrari badge of that thing it is not worth it
that's all I have to say about it :(

But the point remains that you don't have to pay anything to watch any of the races and waiting a couple of hours to watch the "non live" ones isn't really a big deal is it?

HOLY SH1T3!!!!

Who the hell is designing these cars!?
Are they blind?!

How can Mclaren see a sensible (and what I would consider a more aerodynamic) solution to it and the rest not?
Who cares if the nose reg's mean it has to be lower! Just sweep the rest of the design down smoothly. Don't create an abomination of a Fugly piece of crap!

Those designers want sacking!
Wond er what the conversation in the boardroom was after the designer had left!

They are not fast enough to make the images so blurry that you can't see how ugly they are... :( And seriously, I thought the Lotus was bad, but this is one of the worst F1s I've ever seen! I only thing I quite like is the intake above the head rest.

Nas 03-02-2012 07:57 PM

Its a new type of design. For better cornering and faster speeds. Generally the 2012 cars have better aerodynamics.

Thanks.

What is? the bloody camera?

I know the reg's have to be followed and that the FIA have issued a new reg saying that after a certain point near the front wheel centre line, the body has to drop something like 10cm to avoid the nosecone petruding into the drivers head area in the event of a side impact.
But my god! there only seems to Mclaren that seem to have thought of how to do it properly.

Its as if the rest of the teams had their cars already made and then the FIA brought the reg' in, forcing them to just come up with this cock of an idea just to make it pass the regulation.

telboy 03-02-2012 09:43 PM

Here is why they're so ugly....

http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2012/0/929.html

and they plan to make it lower still next year. Hopefully they'll know by then how to do them properly.

I have a sneaky suspicion that we will see some re-designed cars mid year in 2012. :D

SlowOne 03-02-2012 09:51 PM

It was the BBC who went to Sky and frogmarched them into Bernie with the offer of the deal we have now. The BBC did it because the alternative was that there was no F1 on the BBC and the BBC terminated their contract early. This situation has very little to do with 'theft' of the rights by Sky, and everything to do with the current situation where the Governement are refusing to increase the licence fee.

We, who pay, have had no say whatever in the price of the licence fee, and whether or not we want our F1 and other sports paid for from it. For example, if you consider that it is a good use of the licence fee to make programmes like Flog It and all all the reality stuff, and then cut the sports covered to almost zero (or the opposite) you have no say - the Government have just dictated that this is what the BBC do.

I have never paid a single penny to Murdoch since he took over the Sun in 1969. We knew then he was a nasty piece of work, and nothing that has happened since has done anything to change that. Why people pay money to a company that breaks the Law, invades people's privacy and prints lies about people based solely on hacking their 'phones and e-mails is beyond me.

So when discussing this change, please remember that the BBC did it all, and Sky did nothing despite their current advertising that infers they have been the clever ones.

Rant over... All those cars with the step-down noses are ugly! The McLaren looks nice, but Gary Anderson seems to infer that it will lose performance if it doesn't have one of these carbuncles on it's front end. We'll see...

Thanks for the link, interesting stuff. Kimi looks like a bemused eight-year old who's wandered into the wrong place and doesn't really understand what's going on!! Guess he'll look like an F1 driver once he hits the track, though.

I'm gonna reserve judgement till after I see how fast each one is... Yes, the McLaren looks good, but will it be as fast?

If there's one thing I've learnt about formula 1, it's this: There's about 90% chance Adrian Newey's car will be the fastest round the track!

matthew 07-02-2012 01:21 AM

I really dont mind that look and plus as the year goes by we will all grow to like them after all their all a work of art
