Forgive me breaking my oople silence but I needed to comment on this great news.
Welcome Lee , congrats on your choice of chassis and it looks like the right choice going by the early lap times!
Nice work as per normal Lee !
Have a good year

Ross 11-01-2012 07:26 AM

:confused: surly as a factory driver he should be running a tamiya chassis :eh?:

Well Lee wouldn't be running the vega without permission from Tamiya, and maybe this might push them to build a mid of there own:thumbsup:

fastinfastout 11-01-2012 09:09 AM

doubt it, tamiya would not build a car just for the UK market.

this has already been run at Tallly National last year but lee wasnt running it ;) but was Lee's car

Gayo 11-01-2012 10:40 AM

Is the chassis made of graphite or is it only a sticker?

_sleigh_ 11-01-2012 10:41 AM

It's an alloy chassis with a carbon skin inlay.

Ben Turner 11-01-2012 10:54 AM

2wd is going to be super competitive this year!

MHeadling 11-01-2012 11:04 AM

Just a bit, C4.1 vs Tamiya Vega!

Lee Martin 11-01-2012 11:34 AM

Its actually very different from the first Tamiya Vega.

Tamiya have allowed me to use a mid motor conversion until they have a car that is suited to our tracks.
I think that was only fair as it was becoming a little too difficult to obtain results against our countries elite all with Mid Cars.

This although looks similar, is nothing like the first Vega. i have worked with lewis at Xtreme to create a vega conversion specifically for the 201 with what i have learnt in testing the old car. Only receiving it last friday, it has been very promising so far!

Nope...

Different car now!

Nice to see you back anyway!

MHeadling 11-01-2012 11:52 AM

I'v seen the LMR Vega developed car at Xtreme head quarters, it looks amazing!

So nice infact I have bought a 201 to build one up!

Can't wait to see Lee at the Nats with it.

JustARcFan 11-01-2012 12:08 PM

This seems very logic to me as the geometry from the "old" vega 201 wasn't 100%.
Very interested what Lee changed to make the car more competitive.

Mark oh Mark - are you forgetting other top drivers driving Kyosho Vegas!!!

Lee will do extremelly well like he always does.
Now on a level playing field i am sure he can challege for his 2wd title that he no doubt wants.
If the last 2 weeks have been anything to go by, then we might as well not turn up!! :)

You all assume too much though!!
Tamiya, Kyosho Associated and all the rest will have to justify theUK market before they inverst in mid-cars.
For now it's all about Vega Power

MHeadling 11-01-2012 01:10 PM

I agree Tony, Vega Power!

Lee Martin has a real good chance of being Brit Champ with the Vega 201, hence why I said C4.1 vs Vega 201

I'm sure all the other Vega team drivers will be in the mix aswell, lots running the Kyosho versions!

Should be a tight championship!

Can somebody please explain what is the advantage of switching the motor from rear to center. Its a trend I notice catching on like wildfire in Europe, but here in the US I dont see any (with the exception of TLR-22).

So whats all the hooplah all about? What's up with center motor mounted 1/10 2WD buggies?? What kind of track is the center motor car more suited to, as opposed to the original rear motor setup???

I'll post some footage of Lee's car from last night tonights Telstar Racing Club Night. It looks awesome, and the changes Lee and Lewis have made to the original car make the 201 vega an awesome prospect for this year!!

Just out of interest does nobody use the X6 in the US? Seems a bit odd as XFactory are American!!! I was told recently that they sell loads in the States even though they are clearly not suited to the American tracks. ........ Just curious, sorry to go off topic ;o)

guinness 12-01-2012 12:46 PM

you can see Lee new chassis racing at taplow rc club last week in my A final video
car in pole with transparent body.

It's the Telstar Racing winter series, round 2 of qualifying. It not a problem I'll see if I can post the rest of them up.

Lee Martin 12-01-2012 11:27 PM

yes, that was Telstar ;)

You're unlikely to get much response considering this is the Tamiya forum. Check out the X-Factory forum instead. The X6 is, as far as I know, the only mid-motor 2wd buggy with any real pedigree on the dirt tracks of the USA.

rcaddict 13-01-2012 06:20 PM

I live in Southern California and I have yet to see somebody race an X-Ray buggy at my local track. Everybody runs Associated, Losi (config'd for rear motor), HPI, or the occasional Kyosho. I'm the only one with a Tamiya. Maybe that will paint a clearer picture for you guys wondering what the West Coast of the US is doing in terms of amature R/C racing.

I do see a few guys with X-Ray Touring cars but never a buggy. I think I might have seen an X-Ray truggy once. X-Ray seems to be more popular in 1/10 touring and 1/8 off road, but I have never seen an X-Ray 1/10 buggy live and up close, ever. Thats the blunt honest truth. I'm not saying its not a good design, I just have never seen somebody bring one to the track. Nobody here is running center motor, thats why I asked what the advantage was. Now I know why nobody is running center motor over here. All the offroad tracks in SoCal are small with loose grip dirt, tight turns, and BIG jumps. If we were running big tracks on carpet, or high bite clay with long sweeping turns and moderate to small jumps, well then I guess we would all be doing the same here like you guys are doing in Europe (center mounted motors), but we run on the small loose dirt tracks with BIG jumps. I guess thats why Losi came out with the 22. They came out with it for you guys, because we dont need a center mount. Everybody here runs theirs to the rear.
Thanks for the youtube video Mof.

Actually, you might want to go back and re-read it. I know the Original Post is about a 201 conversion, but middle of the thread someone mentioned X-Ray.

msxmre 13-01-2012 10:14 PM

Mmmmm i'm sure it was X Factory, not Xray, might be wrong buddy.
Scotty....

rcaddict 14-01-2012 12:42 AM

Oh Sorry. My apologies. X-Factory.

Have not seen any X-Factory buggies at my local track, nor X-Ray for that matter. The only center motor car we ever see is the Losi 22 and every single one at our track is configured for rear motor. Sorry for the X confusion. LOL!
