Hello,
You will want a descent quality motor and speedo. There are loads on the market, but you shouldnt go wrong with something like a Hobby wing, which is good quality and one of the lower priced, speed passion are also very good. A lot depends on what your gonna do, race or bash? I would think starting with a 10.5 motor would be a good place to start. Also a good lipo makes all the difference. Dc |
Would perhaps be an idea to go down to your local club and ask around to see whats most popular. Maybe someone will have a motor and esc for sale also. As DC has stated already, depends on if your going to race the car or just bash about.
|
Thanks for the reply. I plan to race just in the winter months, I dont mind spending up to £300 on the motor and esc maybe a bit more if its really worth it.
I also need to get some tyres for indoor use, maybe carpet or wood wat would be the best to go for |
hw120 amp speedo and a speed passion motor dependant on track surface and length will depend on turns
|
Vortex ESC
I have a vortex R10 pro esc in my car and its awsome, £170 ish and perfect strait from the box. I can highly recommend it.
Motor wise, depends on your skills and how fast you wana go. I use a 6.5 on my SX3 and its got loads of power. No turbo ot timing changes on the motor or ESC as i like it old school style and not a lover of the turbo. your local model shop can prob advise more as will your local club as mentioned by the others...... You can get a motor and speedo for alot less than £300 and be more than happy with the results..... Quote:

We have speed passion and hobby wing in stock, e mail me for details.

I used a 10.5 nosram and a 120a hobbywing in my 2wd at bury on sunday, was my first time racing an off road track, plenty fast enough for me for now, placed 4th in b final.
You can have a car thats too fast! |
i would run thunder power with hw xe run 120 v2.1 10.5 or 6.5
|
I would go down to your local club and see what everyone else is running. There are loads of good speedo's and everyone has there own preference on brand.
If there are a couple of people already running the same esc as you then they can help with setup and adjusting it. Going for a combo may be a good option, as it reduces the overall cost. |
As always you should also check that whatever you buy is on the BRCA list of approved motors/esc's.

As if running at club level anything would be OK to use surely? |
I'm not 100% sure but I think it would apply to all racing within the BRCA rules. For insurance purposes if nothing else, for example, say someone was injured and decided to make a claim, then the brca found out that the driver that caused the injury was not using BRCA approved equipment then the club itself would then be liable. I may be wrong but this is my understanding of it.
|
hmmmm
IF thats is the case, i would say that just about every club anywhere is breaking the rules. Most club racers use varying motors, esc, lipo's etc and many would not be brca approved. Maybe we need to clarify this....

I have been looking for the hobbywing 120a online but i can only find it on american rc sites, does any body know if they sell these in this country, I'd rather buy from the uk. thank you
|
You can buy from racers in exile here in the UK, although they have had issues recently with being broken into.
|
Hi Matthew
A few of us purchased ours from here and had no issues. http://www.giantcod.co.uk/xerun120as...-p-405854.html Also as far as i am aware there is no BRCA list for ESC's. Only your motor and batteries need to be BRCA legal Cheers Dave |

From the top of my head
Motors - LRP X12 6.5t from JE Spares - £59 or Speed Passion V3 6.5t from not sure where it is but its £56 Both are super value Escs are always a little trick. Orca combos are very good and I think RC Lazy do them Take your pick |

I think Blinky is to do with Turbo or Boost. Some ESCs have a Boost or Turbo setting which when enabled will change the characteristics of the motor by altering the timing. So when you put down on full throttle it gives it a higher revs at the top end. Blinky I think means - Turbo/Boost facility Non-Blinky means - No Turbo/Boost facility I beleive 1/10 touring cars this year is not allowing turbos. As it starts a ware with who has the best Esc. Can someone just confirm I am right. As I am not 100% confident! Thanks |
blinky
means you have a light on it, that when the esc has no timing changes and no turbo, IE standard, it has the light to show this....
Only needed for races that are standard class... So for normal modified and club racing, dont worry about it..........:D |
Blinky mode is when the speedo is not putting additional timing into the motor, it's called blinky mode as one of the lights will blink to show that it's in the right mode.
wouldnt worry about it in off road, run what you like really |

Blinky = no timing |
