b4rs 08-03-2008 07:21 PM

pretty sad if you ask me:confused:

Thomas P 08-03-2008 07:52 PM

don't be so negative m8 ;)

I just added som text, ofcourse, YOUR thoughts on what YOU think is the best sound in the world of motors.. Link to it would be great

Michael. 08-03-2008 07:56 PM

I do like a good wankel...

The rotary engines are great, it's a shame they've effectively banned them from Le Mans now (stuck about a 100kg weight penalty on all rotary cars)

Lee 08-03-2008 08:05 PM

It sounded like my 406 when it starts up on 3 cylinders when its cold, but then it got sexy and sounded like a nitro engine:thumbsup:

supertec 08-03-2008 09:02 PM

Here are some nice sounding racing cars:

Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PPTAv9t36IE

Ford Mondeo Supertouring http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s9YRadO8NP8

Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OnyERN...eature=related http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sLOBwn...eature=related

Citroen C2 S1600 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0vZtlLgKpd8

F1 Monza 1992 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j5zH7w...eature=related

josh_smaxx 08-03-2008 11:56 PM

The Ascari that topped the TG power laps board sounded ACE! But you cant beat a TVR straight 6 when its on all cylinders and working.

MRD 10-03-2008 07:24 PM

V8 all the way. My mate had a TVR Griffith 500 with the 5.0 V8 and boy did that thing make a nice noise. Now he's got a TVR Sagaris with a 4.0 Straight 6 and it sounds awsome but not quite as good as the v8. 400 bhp though.

Richard Lowe 10-03-2008 07:37 PM

Audi Sport Quattro, a giant turbo with a small 5 cylinder engine bolted to it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEK7P...eature=related

Or how about the old BRM H16 (two V8's on top of each other) F1 engine from the late 60's? Supercharged 1500cc (yes 1.5 litres!) with over 600bhp :o

footey 10-03-2008 07:47 PM

like that rich the dump valve sounds awsome :)

b4rs 10-03-2008 08:02 PM

this is my fav, just remebered it with this thread. 2,500 BHP, the car actually lifts off of the dyno.

Ah yes, the BRM H16 - there was an answer to a question no one asked! Total over-engineering just to show what we Brits could do (we used to have an Empire dontchaknow) even though everybody else did it faster, simpler and much much much more reliably. You could draw a parallel with the Tamiya Hotshot!

Spoolio 10-03-2008 08:18 PM

Just realised that when I try to take a tugga toy off my beagle, she growls and it sounds like a race tuned small block Chevy being blipped! Cool :woot:.

gramey 10-03-2008 09:12 PM

:thumbdown:Sorry but the Mazda and F1 engine sound like the Suzuki GSXR 750 I had with it's Micron race pipe.
The Audi S1 quattro sounds cool but as our colonial cousins like to say, there's no substitute for cubes. Now if you can have your cubes and like the sound of wastegate whistling then this is the engine for you........

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AiBkZt...eature=related

I rest my case!

That does sound class for what it is.

Welshy40 10-03-2008 09:44 PM

An old 30 year old Touring car Racing Jaguar with a 5.7 Litre bored out engine, and four exhaust pipes each as big as a two litre bottle diametre.

My mate fitted a spare seat in the roll caged car and the 150 mile fuel tank and my shoes melted on the foot well due to the engine touching it.

When we pulled up at a village on the outskirts of Lemans all the Lambo drivers, Maclaren drivers (and that cars sounds wonderful at speed) 1927 Pole position Bentley driver all came out and wondered what we were in as they could hear us over half a mile away. The noise was superb!!!!

Also we blew a 355 ferrari away from standstill in a car that weighs a hell of a lot more, and the ferrari drivers face was a picture.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt-sK...eature=related

Car looks really cool but personally I still prefer the rumble of a V8.

nice topic!

my favorite one would also be the mazda 787B, closely followed by the BRM V16 -> http://youtube.com/watch?v=fZMPDCNyQxE

just love so old low rev sounds!

:DNo, I think cruisers and especially fake Harley's are for poofter's, people only buy them so they have an excuse to wear leather chaps & jackets with tassles. You only have to watch them wobble round a corner on them to realise they're not bought by bikers!

So here's what a proper motorbike, i.e. one that can actually go round corners, sounds like

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp9xPyI8mCY:thumbsup:

Id like you to go to any bike meet and say that ! :D

Fake Harley ???? Normally I would agree but the M1800R has Gixer suspension/brakes and a new engine that stuffs the Harley Vrod well and truly! True it dont go round corners that well being 8ft long but as most bikes crash on corners who's bothered about dying early. Chap's tassles???? You watch to many movies ! tassles ! maybe a few sad do but most dont !

Kawasaki AR125
CB250RS
BMW650
CM 200
GPX750R
Kawasaki ZX9R
Honda Varadero
Then M1800R
in the last 17 years ! So yes I suppose I aint a Biker ??

gramey 16-03-2008 07:12 PM

http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gifId like you to go to any bike meet and say that ! :D Bondy, I could probably say the same about going to a car meet!:D

I'm prbably not a true biker either as I've only owned these and a few others over the last 33 years -
Yamaha SS550
Yamah YDS7
Suzuki GT250
Suzuki GT380
Kawasaki KH400
Suzuki GT550
Honda XL250R
Kawasaki KMX 200
Kawasaki Z650
Kawasaki Z750
Kawasaki Z1000J
Suzuki 750 Katana
Laverda Jota 1000
Suzuki GSXR750L
Suzuki RG500
Suzuki GSXR750WP
Honda CBX1000 Pro Link
Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport Injection
Kawasaki H2B 750
Suzuki SV1000S
Yamaha RD350 YPVS FII

The Laverda and Moto Guzzi (fitted with a Raceco full race exhaust) definetely had a nice sound to them. The Guzzi as you'd expect being a 90 deg. V twin sound pretty similar to the Ducati.
The Kawasaki H2 I bought after getting knocked off my bike by a drink driver leaving my lower right leg in six pieces. I couldn't bend my leg far enough back to get my foot back on the peg of the Guzzi. Once I got more movement back I got the SV. Pennies got tight so that made way for the YPVS which has now gone so that when I get the money together I'm treating myself to a new gixxer 750.

Not a cruiser on the list you'll notice, having said that the M1800R sounds pretty cool in that clip, sort of a two wheeled equivilant of a V8 car. Different strokes for different folks I guess, how come you went from a ZX9R to the Varadero - M1800R?http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

bondy 17-03-2008 09:05 AM

Fright

Nearly killed myself on the ZX9R 100mph every where, then got the varadero " i like trail riding" went to italy, belgium, holland, france etc! then fell off that trying to keep up with some sports bikes ! Always wanted a cruiser but never a harley and all the others are clones " like you said " The M1800R is Big enough " I aint small!:D" and is I belive more Hotrod than tasseld cruiser ! If I had a big enough garage there would be a hyabusa or zzr1400 in there if I stopped model car racing I could fit another 2 in there !!! hmmmm?!!!!

:)A bit vicious on the grear changes but you just have to love what you can get from a turbo. I couldn't see which model of GSXR it was that he was racing i.e. 600, 750 or a 1000, probably one of the smaller two?
The M5 is a straight six rather than a flat six but still sound nice, you just got to wonder how much each extra horsepower cost on those 2 cars?:)

Thomas P 19-03-2008 05:22 PM

LOL, i mean Straight...Flat, man was i drunk or what :D

That AMG Mercedes they use as the safety car now in F1 has an amazing sound! Just being able to heard in that infernal (but marvellous) F1 noise is impressive. Moreover it sounds like a P-51D Mustang on steroids... or as Jeremy Clarkson would put it: "The wrath of God"! That V8 really gurgles its petrol!!!

Yeah, that guy Bernd Mayländer has a lousy job... :D

http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2008/...f1-safety-car/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIfOQWwwXQs

Other than that the good, old F1 Ferrari V12 was also totally insane! It always sounded like NOW it's just gotta blow any second!!! :D

The P51 only became what it was when they replaced the Allison engine with a pukka British Rolls Royce Merlin engine. May not have the crescendo of a Ferrari V12 but how can you not love the sound of an all time great?

A true legend!

The Doktor 27-03-2008 03:39 PM

I came across this forum, while lookin into the trf501. I saw this thread and HAD to post. I love the sound of a manx norton goin down the gears or a yzr500 at full tilt, or that ferrari music, but its hard to beat the winged engines...

1957 Guzzi V8 500cc makes the hair on my neck stand up!
1960's Honda 250cc 4 and 6 cylinder bikes

Murray Walker did the TT commentary for years and i have the cd's in my car, really sad but i cant get enough.

If you want to hear proper cars get to Silverstone for the classic race in July this year, you'll be blown away ( and deaf when you leave!!!):D
