The XX4 platform is always on top of its game

MHeadling 09-12-2011 10:19 AM

Yes that looked really planted and fast on track, amazing design still to be winning races now.

It must be 15+ year old design?

RDG 40 09-12-2011 05:14 PM

awesome car thats y i bought mine back for my spare car, tbh i would use it full time if spares were easier to get

At worksop i can match my times if not quicker than B44.1!

racingdwarf 09-12-2011 09:59 PM

xx4 is prob one of the best/longlasting designs of car ever, second only to the RC10! I think the original xx4 maybe be a little older than 15years?

if the car was a little stronger and spairs were avalable it would still be very popular today!

AmiSMB 09-12-2011 10:40 PM

That is why the CAT SX uses the front geometry and now the SX3 uses a similar layout.

Think I recall that Kevin Moore took the magnesium chassis'd prototype to the 1996 Euro's with Pops and Junior after testing at Eden Park!
Think he TQ'd but finished second behind Craig I believe!
And he wan't thank me for reminding him of that!

Best I check!:woot:

I was there and watched the finals. The XX4 was carried to the track in a bag and they pitted under the table so noone would see the car. It went really well on the grass at Lille! Pops and Junior were really friendly and approachable too I remember.

MHeadling 10-12-2011 08:31 AM

Yes the Xx4 and BJ4/44 must go down as legendary designs and still winning today!

Just had a look in an old copy of Model Cars from 1996, the XX4 was £329.99!

GRIFF55 10-12-2011 09:29 AM

So, were there any under the xx4 shell pics???? Looked good on track.
Must get mine finished for the shelf:)

MHeadling 11-12-2011 11:53 AM

MHeadling 11-12-2011 12:06 PM

brookie 11-12-2011 12:26 PM

Does look pretty standard apart from.....

Rear Anti Roll Bar
Rear Shock Tower Brace
Looks like LMR Rear Wing or copy!

.....and who knows what's going on under those belt covers?:o

MHeadling 11-12-2011 12:48 PM

Here is an interesting post on the proto type XX4, some nice pics too

Loves the way they say the xxx4g+ took the win....

Pleeeeeeace re-relese the XX4

ottoswe 15-12-2011 06:38 PM

with a tentioner you can run a trf 511 belt in the rear since the teeth are the same but 511 belt is longer..

Wouldn't this alter the internal ratio ?

D20MCK 15-12-2011 08:43 PM

No, the internal ratio is set by the number of teeth on the pulleys/gears the belt makes no change whatever the length.

Are you sure ?
if you lengthen the rear belt the spur layshaft would make more turns to get the diff to rotate.
plus the front and rear diffs would rotate at different speeds due to the longer rear belt.

jimmy 15-12-2011 10:13 PM

The belt length is the same as an idler gear in a 2WD gearbox, it makes no difference at all to the ratio.

Nick 15-12-2011 10:15 PM

The belt has nothing to do 2 do with the ratio! Its all to do with number of teeth on the gears

Yeah 100%

Think of it the same as a shaft drive car, if the shaft is longer will it change the ratio?.... No.

The only way the ratio can change is if the size of the gear changes

Really good to see the old girl flying still...loved that buggy :wub

D20MCK 16-12-2011 02:18 PM

Never really ever had any problems with front or mid belts, it was rear belts I was going through this season. Really love my xx-4 don't think I will be running mine anymore, it's good to see it still winning.

Andyp 18-12-2011 01:34 PM

Ha yeah it's pretty much 'as new' they is a few good condition used parts on there and the chassis is pretty battered underneath but I'm trying to sort a new one out!

I did give it a run the other night, it only has a 7.5 in and felt abit slow, then the rear diff came loose. On closer inspection I had built it wrong!!

D20MCK 23-12-2011 10:34 AM

It's nice, I need a new chassis for my car to, I cracked mine on the ring of fire at the oOple race this year, xx-4 vs the ring of fire is not a good idea.

Steven Forster 23-12-2011 08:50 PM

Lovin the paint job on your buggy andy, when you gonna run it at seaham ?

Yeah, just at the motor. I can remember some guys behind me talking, "is that a double x 4, he must be mad"

Sounded like a good idea at the time, but I think I'd had a few beers by that point.
