My old collection and errrr new collection starting....
Hmmm this is becoming addictive.... I was a good boy last year and sold virtualy all my old rare Tamiyas....
Heres a few for you.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P1080189.jpg My personal favs and worth over £500 eek http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200168.jpg |
Even though i searched for a decent Avante, i couldnt justify the £350, so decided to buy a few projects.... Some good advice and if your after vintage and mint. Its far cheaper to buy one that do an old one up:cry:.
A few of the projects can be seen hear. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PA280186.jpg Tamiya fox, frog and fire dragon all wanted new shells. To those that dont know the shells alone for them came to over £100... Then they re released the frog grrr lol |
A few close up of my fav old style buggies. My personal Fav was the falcon and Boomerang.
This one was better than mint..... Never ran at all. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P5130155.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P5130156.jpg Almost cried when it sold on ebay for £60 lol.. |
|
Managed to find an old Astute on the lovely bay. Very rare these days and im still on the look out for one now. In the end I bought a new shell and decal set from Hong kong for £40 and made it look A1, Wheels and tyres were quite hard to get hold of though as well.
Nice car and from memory they were one of the first real serious 2wd cars to come from Tamiya. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P3130189.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P3130188.jpg |
Hmm needed a 4x4 style so found a reasonable Mud blaster.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P5130171.jpg Bodywork from the subaru brat and a chassis from the Blackfoot/ Monster Beetle. This particular car was hated and never popular. |
A fire dragon was another purchase, many a night spent on ebay after a few beers buying cars that needed to much work lol.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P3130191.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P3130190.jpg This car was won for £30 then i promply bought a new bodyset for £30 and all the plastics were knackered lol.... Hmmmm :woot: |
ohhh lokat that BIGWIG!!! NICE
|
The fox.
Very old and highly collectable. This one needed a new shell. After a worldwide search and a few dodgy deals i managed to find a bodyset for the car. Hmm just dont ask how much it cost me lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC070213.jpg Sold this car and decided to split the 2 down, rolling chassis and bodyset still not painted etc/ Bodyset sold for more than the car lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC070212.jpg |
Terra Scorcher....
Was another boring night at home on the net and along comes a Terra for £30. Bought and in reasonable condition but ... what the feck***** all the gears are mashed together lol.... Hmmmmm lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC050201.jpg |
Egress !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My all time fav non Kyosho car ......... |
The Big Wig...
Hated this car when i was younger, but had to buy one as the engineering in this vintage was unbelievable. Cvd with rubber gaitors to protect from dust, full bearings, super smooth 4wd mech, interesting sterring arrangement like a real car, interesting shell which even has details like exhausts and air scoops a plenty, hmmm i can just imagine a novak gtb under there getting plenty of airflow lol. Funny thing is , it weighed more than a real car lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC050202.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC050203.jpg |

Tamiya frog..
This one was painted frog green and looked abso minging, I decided to have a go and strip the paint off an original shell and try those repro stickers with original sponsor logos . Eeek. I bet i used about £30 worth of nitro fuel that i had from one of my racing revo's and about a million hours of time to get the result that you see here. 98 percent off lol. When i get the other 200 hours i'll finish this car lol. GRRRRRR, Tamiya have now re release the car and all that time and effort wasted lol. Oh well lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC050205.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC050204.jpg |
Cougar..
This was bought as i had one of these and kept onto it. I did have this for sale a while back but got no interest and was practically giving it away for £30. Hmmm a very cheeky Northly lol:p was interested but even wanted free postage lol. Have since been told it has the very important front shock mod using oversize chocks and new tower to cope wiht the shocks. Keeping now :wub http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC100191.jpg |

Porka 959 Rothmans special..
I never liked this car as it seemed to boring, but i didnt realise how rare they were esp with the Rothmans livery. Supposedly Rothmans had some kind of lawsuit and Tamiya were looked at badly for advertising smoking ( or so i was told lol) future cars were not Rothmans liveries... If that makes sense lol. This car had real nice suspension, the shocks were completely seperate to the springs like a real car. The shell was super detailed but very hard to paint and tbh i dont think any model car this day and age has as much detail as this shell and from memory this is very early 80s material. I sold this for £200 lol. :woot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC100197.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC100195.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC100205.jpg |
Re the POrsche 959...
Forgot to mention, that was without the technigold motor you see there. (£200 car only) That went for almost £50 on its own lol...:eh?: |
Its a cobra..
Won on ebay for virtually nothing with full radio gear. Ironically i gave the car away for nothing as someone needed a receiver and servo lol. I think young James terrorised the local cats and B4's at southport with a similar car lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P3130192.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P3130194.jpg |
Forgot to mention.. Note the inside out rims. Supposedly they handled better with having slightly wider track at the front and rear lol.
Did these cars ever do well?? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P1080186.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P1080187.jpg |
Hmm not ezacly vintage but at almost 10kgs and 29cc of power the big boy deseves a mention.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...PA280203-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/P8260160.jpg This one had a lot of money spent on it. From memory front bumper was almost £30 and similar story for the wheelie bar... Proper zenoah power coupled with K&n air filter and tuned exhaust from a tourer, this fling flew.. However not all good, it regularly broke £90 servos and the shell virtually dissintegrated at the slghtest of rolls :o(£100). I remember being naughty and playing with it in the street at my mates and it rolling quite badly which resulted in it almost hitting my M3 lol. Had a fair share of laughs with it as well, I took it up to my mates and decided to annoy the locals bu having Fg rocket up and down the road at 60 mph lol. A lack of concentration whilst showing off trying to do handbrake style turns near my feet , quickly resulted in me being knocked 10ft down the road lol.. Car went away after that lol. Which brings me to my best cars. |
Fell out with the FG for some reason cough cough and did a trade for 2 cars.
I ended up with these. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200161.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC100190.jpg Fantastic cars and some would say stupid as the Fg was worth £600. But hey I had a new build Top Force evo and immaculate Egress. Some pics:wub http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200157.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200156.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200155.jpg |

I have a mardave meteor in my garage, I might dig it out sometime soon. |
The Holy Grail.
Tyres can cost upto £75 for 4 new, and this one was perfect. Only bad thing on this car was the quality of the paintjob as you could see paint brush marks in the mettallic silver. I did price up a new shell and it was a staggering £90. A few pics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200162.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200163.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200165.jpg A few more. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200166.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200159.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...l/PC200160.jpg |
Then comes the sad day.... Im sure you all know where im coming from.
Split up with the Mrs, HAD to sell the rc cars, had to sell the M3, and moved back home until enough pennies to buy a new house. Eeek:confused: |
But, fast approaching the young mature sensable age of 30, back in my own house, with a nice big garage and loft ready to fill up with.....
Yep vintage cars lol.. Iv currently acquired the following. Super Sabre - A1 condition, pics to follow Boomerang - A1 condition , pics to follow, virtually all parts replaced lol Bush devil - needs a lot of work Grasshopper - re release not built yet Lunchbox - gold edition Hotshot 2, good con but needs new shell and wheels n tyres, already have the decals Thunder dragon, car not arrived yet, but already bought a new bodyset. Stadium Blitzer - has been fun for someone and is in very bad condition - everything plastic needs replacing lol. Falcon - perfect but shell painted in the wrong colours. New shell at £34 and decals at £20 make an expensive falcon lol. If your interested in my projects, i'll keep you all posted, and if i can help in any way on cars you guys have, drop us a pm. Col |

Jeez Col, you have been busy! Post up some pics of the collection as it stands now. Any of these be racing at Southport? Perhaps someone could raise the possibility of a a vintage class for next years indoor races at the upcoming AGM? Sadly I wont be attending so I can't suggest it myself. It would give me an excuse to go spending again!

Hello
Here is my first car - Mardave Apache Indestructable and still running, weighing in at 1600g No differential, no dampers, no caster.....but I remember one driver at our club would still make A/B finals with his indoors when the RC10 first came out! |
