s500 - gear diffs?
not sure if it's common knowledge but a little bird just tweeted in my ear it has geared diffs, like rallyx cars and so tunable, is this true, :thumbsup::confused:

They have a geared differential for their S400 touring car (see here), so it's not unreasonable to think they'll do the same with the S500.

New for the Serpent S400 is this innovative 35T rear gear differential. Designed with competition in mind, this new diff is only 5 grams heavier than the standard ball differential yet provides more consistent operation and there is absolutely no slippage, which helps improve acceleration. Another benefit is that it requires little or no maintenance or rebuilding and it can be simply set by just changing the oil. To keep the weight down, the differential is supplied with coated aluminium out drives and to get you on the track as quick as possible, the diff comes pre-assembled, with you only needing to add oil. Expect a front gear differential in the near future

endlessly tunable buy oil weight inside, just as in rally x
heaver oil more limited slip action the diff will provide etc and vise versa |

Sounds like my kind of car, along with a brushless motor/speedo it will equate to virtually maintanance free racing!!

Ball diffs I think in this car, but they might bring out some geared jobbies later? who knows.

From what I've heard it will come with standard ball diffs out of the box but they are working on a gear diff option too.

i guess they have them already i know it says s400 but there already made guess a crown wheel change and your off hope it does come geared diffs |

I see what your saying carl but its still not a proper 1 way and personally i dont see the advantage of having a geared diff, and all the oil crap would just do my head in:cry:

The geared differential I linked to is for the rear of the S400, although the blurb does state "Expect a front gear differential in the near future".
I agree that a geared differential for the front of a 4wd buggy is not much use, given the preference for one-way units, but could be a good idea for the rear (due to the reasons Serpent have outlined). |

How 'open' is the rear of the S500? because if it is (Diff is visible) then i would gladly take a geared diff over a ball diff anyday. I need to rebuild the diff in my S400 every 2 nights, imagine on an offroad track its going to be more then that, geared diff takes all that away.

its enclosed (has to be since its gear driven and a tiny bit of debris could knacker it all)
They confirmed it comes with BALL diffs but might (only might) make a geared diff. |

Thanks for clearing some things up mark but what is the advantage of having one if you already have a well built and functioning ball diff:confused:

Question for mark. Have the tc drivers encounted any problems with the new geared diffs? As you have said it's more finiky in a tc so if it's been ok in this then i should imagine it would be ok in the buggy. So looking forward to this car coming out:drool::drool:
