Vektor Racing Intercept shell for DEX410

1 Attachment(s)
Well, I've been tinkering with some CAD software and thought I'd design a shell for the 'rango.

What do you guys reckon?

I've got prices for making the actual vacuum formed shells but still trying to sort out the mould. Looking into getting it made at the Uni on the cheap :D

schmacher 01-10-2011 04:06 PM

not too bad

coleman758 01-10-2011 08:12 PM

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I would have me on of those, I was looking at the FS2 shell Friday night to put on my Durango.

This looks like a mix of the FS2 and Rango!

captainlip 01-10-2011 09:28 PM

Not a fan tbh, to square! make it nice and smooth and rounded off

matt, are you just collecting shells now?

craigosh 01-10-2011 09:28 PM

Yeah deffo fs2 influence. Quite like that shell so thought take that as a cue.
Just gone for something with more space under and bigger cooling space.

Its not a bad shell the Gainabull, but I find it a little awkward looking and little to soft and fat. Very dependent on paint job!!

I prefer shells a bit more angular and aggressive.

Don't change it. Mean and aggressive, it looks killer.

I'll take 3

GRIFF55 03-10-2011 09:21 PM

It will be nice to see a finished one of these painted up.
Quite like it:thumbsup:

craigosh 03-10-2011 10:50 PM

Well getting the mould made is proving most difficult thing at the mo but trying a few contacts

MrMagoo 04-10-2011 09:47 PM

Love it! If you can get them made up I'll take a couple...

TDMAK 05-10-2011 02:17 PM

If you make it, you got an order from me.

Carlos69 06-10-2011 01:35 AM

Me rikey

I'd have one

eyeayen 06-10-2011 09:51 AM

I think it looks cool ! Hope you can get them made, where's the problem coming from with the mould ? It looks like you have a decent computer file to supply them ?

Fatal1ty 06-10-2011 10:28 AM

first think: stealth bomber! looks great! But I dont drive a durango... I'm sorry :)

ASR 06-10-2011 03:40 PM

looks great mate I'd order one!

craigosh 06-10-2011 04:59 PM

Yeah getting the mould made is proving difficult, cant really afford to get it machined from ali or something. Most people I've spoken to seem to mould it all by hand but im no good at that sort of thing :)

Still trying to get a contact at the uni to see if can use their rapid prototype machines to get a good original from.

Not giving up just yet ;)

IceMike 06-10-2011 05:09 PM

You dont need ali to make the mould. u could use mdf, or plastic.

wouldnt use wood in its oridinal form as it may disform during the moulding process.

count me in if you can form these!

coleman758 07-10-2011 01:50 PM

I have done some undertrays in the past, MDF with a few coats of varnish does the trick!

Its just getting it the same as you digital file!

But yea count me in too

eyeayen 07-10-2011 06:53 PM

If you can get a side shot of your digital file and also the front rear and top you can literally paste them onto your mdf block or whatever your using and start to carve it out that way.

There will be companies that can make it for you. Approach people how make parts for motorbikes or boats, or anyone that uses fibreglass / carbon as they'll know how to mould it properly.

Once you've done it you need to prime it with a high build primer and then flat that down and probably prime it and flat down again for an ultra smooth finish.

I've got some contacts still if you can't get any where, not sure what they'd charge, give me a PM if you want a hand.

Patte 08-10-2011 06:29 AM

I really like it, and if you make it I will for sure order a few.

androo 08-10-2011 12:08 PM

Love the shell design, What design software are you using.
I might be able to help you out if your still looking for some one to make a pattern.

craigosh 08-10-2011 07:48 PM

Cheers guys just busy with work at mo. Sent files out looking for a few quotes on cnc and rapid proto'd bits so see what I get back.

I used Ashlar Vellum Cobalt can spit out various file types.

androo 09-10-2011 11:53 AM

can you do catia V5 file???

craigosh 09-10-2011 12:21 PM

It'll output a Catia v4 apparently.

ghostdogg 10-10-2011 03:01 PM

I like it! looks great keep me posted n any other developments!!

lewis666 30-10-2011 01:52 PM

+1000 im ready to pull the trigger

craigosh 16-11-2011 12:31 AM

Sorry lads, cant find a way to get the mould made at a resonable cost so I guess the project is dead in the water!!

adey 16-11-2011 01:49 AM

speak to (x factor) member on here. He made a mould for a new cr2 body out of body filler. The finished bodys are superb.

Hi
My company has a computer milling machine and a vac former .
We would use a composite called urial .
If you like I could find out a price for the material and maybe come to some sought of agreement over machine time.

craigosh 16-11-2011 09:46 PM

MIGHT have a lead on getting the mould made so we'll see if we can keep it goin!

jimdaloo 16-11-2011 09:49 PM

can youre software convert it into a rhino file?

craigosh 17-11-2011 06:16 PM

Ok guys, mould will be made in 10days. Made some slight changes, new render up later.

t8rtot 18-11-2011 03:36 PM

Sweet

Quick preview render, took the extra slopes off the back, and made the exits of the side pods bit bigger. just simplify it little and make it bit easier to mask :)

t8rtot 19-11-2011 12:34 AM

Looks good. What are we looking at price wise?
