S500 - pre production car
REDRC.net got the first shots of the new S500 4WD buggy from Serpent in their comprehensive report on the Nuremberg ToyFair 2008.
The new car is based on the original Durango concept - but reworked from the ground up by Gerd and the designers at Serpent. The S500 features a flat pressed main chassis with machined screwed-on sides, which form a rather unique alloy 'tub' - providing both strength and weather sealing, negating the need for an undertray or top deck. The rear of the chassis appears to have a plastic 'skid plate' to prevent the chassis from wearing on hard surfaces. As we said last week - the new car widens toward the front to accomodate 'regular' sized electrics, and the servo sits under the steering. |

Nice looking car.
But how does the steering work ? Looking at the pictures the servo horn faces into the car and there is no signs of a linkage OR is the servo installed wrong ? |
I think you need to look harder phil;)

No, it isn't the finished production car

I can tell you from experience, removing the slipper to change the cells gets tedious..... And imagine if it popped open over the big jump at Batley! |
You change the cells with the quick release drive shaft, NOT THE SLIPPER :woot:
|
so we might not get the alloy chassis  be plastic instead
|
That looks bloody awesome!
Can they do one in blue? ta :D |
No offence AERO but I have to admit This one look it the one to have.
Every thing looks like it's been engineered 3 times over. No cheap compromise. With all this Great Cars commin' out , I'm having a hard time decidin' witch one to go for. Hats off to Serpent and their RD team for this. really looks like a threat. |

That chassis might look a bit minging if you anodised it anything but that 'raw' colour. well, after a couple of packs thru the car outdoors it would anyway
|
use some protetion Jimmy, put a car condom on it... roflol...
|
Perhaps a liberal coating of KY underneath it? that's the shame about such a lovely looking chassis, its gonna get abused. Oh well:drool:

And if you can't get good feeling from the normal chassis condom, maybe go for ribbed :woot: |
those cells look mighty close together :woot:
i presume there is a tray or something that will restrict forward movement of the rear set of cells in an impact or heavy landing??? nice looking car though |
Wow, that looks very impressive!
Looks like the EP market is really heating up. I can't wait to see what this season brings in terms of results. Too bad there isn't a worlds this year. Should mean a diverse Euros and Nationals series. I personaly can't wait. |
