Your favourite Schumacher off-road?

Well now there is a Schumacher section to the amazing oOple forum, might as well use it!

I was just wondering, what has been your favourite Schumacher off-road buggy, 2wd or 4wd, heck both if you want, and of course why?

I have to say my favourite is the Cougar 2. Awesome buggy and I still have my original, and even a couple of second ones for spares and sorting out the original. Awesome handling buggy, and I certainly preferred the handling of the Cougar 2 over the Fireblade Evo. Why don't we see metal pans in 2wd any more? I think the low CoG and strength is well worth the little extra weight.

This isn't my cougar 2, just someone's from Schumacher website. I thought I'd need to stick a pretty photo to illustrate my favourite. :)

I thought metal pans went out because they used to bend?

I drove various Schumacher cars when i started racing as a kid - the best one out of that lot at the time was Andy Shaw's Ex Factory Team Bosscat (not many people here would remember Andy but he was one of the sort of Top 10 UK guys back in the early/mid 90's).

That car had all kinds of prototype ideas ready for the Cat 2000 including a special rear shock tower moving the shocks on to the rear of the wishbones and some other bits.

I think overall though the Cat 2000 EC was probably the best car, it was so good on UK tracks - I remember Rich Barton winning the national at EPO when Kevin Moore was s*it hot around there with his XX-4, that must have been 1998/1999....... I actually had my best result with the Cat 3000 but that was at the Euro's, everywhere else it was pretty bad!

My ProCat rocks

2006/07 York Vintage Off Road Master Champion and it's looking on the cards for the 07/08 series too :D

Oh, and it has soooooo much steering even Mr. Lowe has a job holding onto it!:lol::lol:

Alfonzo 07-02-2008 04:06 PM

My fully tricked ex Team Ant Hill Mob Pro Cat (in obligatory early '90's fluorescent zebra stripe paint job). It brought home trophies and medals :thumbsup:

I had the pleasure of owning Juka's Cat that he came 3rd in the worlds with in america ! Ran it for a season ! it was beyond me at the time !

Kopite 07-02-2008 05:07 PM

The original Cougar was a brilliant car for it's day, remember how long the front dampers were on it? I loved that car (especially when Schumacher brought out the 'Super diff' for it). The TopCat looked cool with the front shocks (didn't it have the wishbones on elastic bands on the front too?)

My fave was always the CAT 2000 though, just so damn easy to drive and handled so well. I never fully appreciated it until i replaced it with a YZ-10 :(

:(

to quote myself (loser), i think that might've been the XLS :)

Chris Doughty 07-02-2008 05:38 PM

top-cat has multi plane suspension, the front end on that thing was crazy! up/down back/forwards the wheels would go anywhere!

Kopite 07-02-2008 05:43 PM

mmm, then there was SACS

Chrislong 07-02-2008 05:49 PM

I always got on with the SACS cars, whereas I never really got the Cougar2 to work well for me.

I had several Procats and never made the step to the Bosscat, instead I bought several second hand Procats and kept on with it. The one I used was fully MMS's up, Boss cat shell on it, wire wing mounts (very low and far back wing, LOL) and it was awesome.

The Cat 2000 was my next car, it was okay, didn't seem to work aswell as my procat did, but when i went to the EC - wow, I loved that car. Full graphite and purple alloy kit on it too.

GRIFF55 07-02-2008 06:04 PM

For me, my favorite shuey has to be the XLS, oh i loved that car:wub. Still got most of the shells and the car in bits!! Will take pics when i get a chance. I had the XL, then XLS followed by a procat and top cat. Ditched 2wd when i got cougar upgrade. Bought the cat 2000 and as KOPITE replaced it with a yoke to my dissapointment.
XLS:drool::drool:

markwilliamson2001 07-02-2008 06:29 PM

I have got a cat 2000 ec at home in a box at the moment, which I am trying to sort out, with some choice upgrades, and improvements, I reckon it will be reasonable on UK tracks, especially at my local club.

I am trying to fit some choice upgrades, but my next step will be Cat 98 side saddle chassis, (for possible lipo modification), assoc threaded shocks, and brushless speedo, should be good!

What you guys think!!!??

Mark

markwilliamson2001 07-02-2008 07:07 PM

yeah... i didn't really like the 'look' of the Cat 3000. Just looked 'odd'.

Lee 07-02-2008 07:17 PM

Cougar 2000 was great for me i really liked that car, i know a lot didnt:confused:

SimonW 07-02-2008 07:37 PM

In the late 80's i had Andy Butt's (regional champ or something) Short wheelbase original cat that was my favourite car by a country mile wish i still had that

paulc 07-02-2008 07:54 PM

top cat for me first rc car too

paulc 07-02-2008 07:56 PM

o and the storm truck too (coverted cougar)

DCM 07-02-2008 07:58 PM

either the Cat XLS with Pro Cat rear end or the original Cougar 2000

jim76 07-02-2008 08:25 PM

bosscat for me. the woven chassis just looked mint when it came out. and i also lapped Bren Ralls the club champion with it in my first meeting. The following week there were quite a few Bosscats!!

I really loved the cat 2000 too. i still have mine with full titanium and alloy kit. I dug it out when i returned to the hobby in 2004. It handled amazing at my local track, beat most of the local guys with a 19t in it, it couldn't handle much more power than that!!

niggs98 07-02-2008 08:28 PM

im sure bren was impressed lmao, i may even have to remind him lol for me it is definatley the xls, i had a top cat as well and was even among the first to use top cat rear wishbones on the xls after watching kevin moore do it to his at a regional

Those model motor sport diffs and layshaft were the Bol###s!

MikePimlott 07-02-2008 11:27 PM

I ran the cougar 2 for a long time, and at the time it was the best 2wd car you could buy. i remember running at L.U.T club at Leigh, and at the church in Chorley with Rib spike being choice of tyre on front and spike at the back. WOW those where the days.

Blimey I didn't even know you were on here mate. oOple stretches all the way to Australia, awesome. Very good looking Cougar 2 you have as well :)

JBL 08-02-2008 07:14 PM

When I first started out I use to race a Cat XL and upgraded it to a XLS and finally a procat. I also ventured into 2wd with a Cougar as well. With the Cat the MMS diffs and RW spur gears/slipper clutches were better and smoother than Schumachers upgrades.

Also I tried a YZ10 with a CAT XLS front end on it? Does anybody remember the Cat fighter? A few of us tried this out at the old Toddington race track in Bedfordshire.

bish 08-02-2008 11:01 PM

damn, those pics bring back great memories! sweet topcat with black chassis...and the bosscat works(had one)...and the cat xls(had one) i liked the cougar 2000 '95 full carbon, was never convinced by the SACS front end though. i want by bosscat back! handled great with loads of front grip, if only the drivetrain was more efficient i would have never bothered to get a pred!

Gayo 08-02-2008 11:21 PM

I had a Procat and I loved every bit of it but it has to be the Bosscat, for me.
I've done hundred of runs on mine and also won my first race with it. :D
I remember when they first came out, red anodising was sooo sexy, along with the then new slipper, beautiful front arms, lovely CF and flat rims... the bomb.

Differential smoothess was incredible, specially with the special telescopic alloy dogbones. Aaaah, memories :cry:

Funkymojo 09-02-2008 02:54 AM

My fave is the CAT XLS...it was really a great handling buggy. The Procat ain't too bad either...wanted to get a Bosscat but bought a Yokomo Works 91 instead...nowhere near as good as the CAT XLS and Procat...

BORMAC 09-02-2008 04:07 AM
