Schumacher CAT SX

REDRC.NET once more got a great scoop - the new Schumacher CAT 4WD buggy, the so-called CAT SX was at last confirmed at the Nuremberg Toyfair today, a poster was all that could be seen, but at least things are definite.

http://www.redrc.net/wp-content/uplo...ercatsx-lr.jpg

The new car isn't to be shown in public just yet and distributors will be the only ones to see the pre-production car at the show according to recrc.net. We have heard some rumours of what's under that dark sleek silhouette:
  • Triple belt drive
  • Losi wheel fitment
  • Super narrow chassis
  • 4+2 cell arrangement
The car should be unveiled properly later this month - on the track, where it belongs.

Wow lots of new 4wd cars, hope we get a good mix of different cars in the A finals this year/next.

xx4-nutter 06-02-2008 04:48 PM

Slim / Narrow cars seem to be the future !

DCM 06-02-2008 04:51 PM

Cooool!!!! Lets hope they have finally designed something good that can take over from the XLS, and Boss Cat. I cant wait to see the pics and if its better than the tamiya then im buying one.

jimmy 06-02-2008 05:27 PM

After the Pro Cat the first Schumacher cars I saw were after I started racing in 2002, and they all looked slightly unappealing to me.
This one will hopefully look like SeX tho!

Chrislong 06-02-2008 05:39 PM

ha ha, a few of us discovered the name of this a couple of weeks ago. We had a few suggestions incase it was not certain, seems that it was.

Simon Moss has been involved in testing

racingdwarf 06-02-2008 06:25 PM

The thing that used to be good about cars like the cat was they were tested in the uk thus we got a car built for grass/astro grip tracks. Other cars were nearly all tested on dirt/blue groove tracks in the us or Japan. I soooo hope this is a great car:thumbsup::thumbsup:

dallasv8 06-02-2008 06:25 PM

the side pic does look nice and sleek

HKP 06-02-2008 07:13 PM

The CAT is finally back! odd looking little bugger isn't it? i see they are still using the Wing Mounts first seen on the Cougar!

MattW 06-02-2008 07:15 PM

The concept of the spring back wing mounts was first used on the top cat i think in about 1989. :woot:

DCM 06-02-2008 07:20 PM

those wing mounts were crap then...... lol, I do hope there has been significant investment in NEW parts for this car and not a parts bin special......

Is it a belt drive AE B44 AC Conversion then lol

MattW 06-02-2008 07:22 PM

Oh i can assure you, you will not find previous cat major parts on this car.

My S4  ;)

Seriously though it's great to see so much choice in off road at the moment.

Chrislong 06-02-2008 07:43 PM

 & crashback front arms, they're the Daddy!!

bigred5765 06-02-2008 07:46 PM

rubber band wing mounts
crash back
one way rollers on the drive shafts
wheel hub disks
sealed belts
all would be nice to see again
but god hope the shocks are better than they were

:DYep they were... well a bit made in GT britain

GRIFF55 06-02-2008 08:05 PM

I think it's got rubber band wing mounts from looking at the pic, crashback arms again would save a few quid:)

Yep i saw them, they were awful!

Micha_MX4 06-02-2008 08:33 PM

4+2 battery layout means: never lipo in this car

showtime 06-02-2008 08:54 PM

maybe not but the car will be designed to have the weight of NiMh's where they are fitted ;)

i know you can add ballast etc but with more & more narrower chassis appearing there is less & less space to put it :eh?:

Chris Ashton 06-02-2008 09:08 PM

Nice to see so much interest in our new car...you don't know how hard it's been to keep some of the features/spec under raps!!!

Looking forward to releasing more info shortly to see some more reaction.

but it IS a disadvantage, sorry but you can buy lipos that have the same weight as NiMh (maxamps 6000 mAh saddle f.e.) and you have the comfort of
using one pack over a racing weekend or - together with brushless motors -
endless running time...

I know you guys are crazy over every british car, I just wanted to say
that for a firm that actually wants to make money with selling these cars
(not "just" enthusiasts) and that means selling them to "bashers" too,
it's surprising for me that they go for such an layout.

I will never buy this car if I cannot run lipos in it, it's simple as this.
(I cannot run the 6000 maxamps saddle in my Yok BXF, not enough
space between topdeck and chassis and that sucks...)

BUT I'm really hoping that the amount of new 4wd buggies will push
4wd electric offroad in Germany...

showtime 06-02-2008 09:24 PM

hey i'm not blindly patriotic at all (even tho my 4wd is a Pred )
i like any company that can build a good car & will take an interest in their products. i like cars that are a little different/innovative etc & would like to see what they can come up with :)
my comments about the Lipos are relevant to any car thats been designed with saddle packs in mind.
maybe when cars are designed purely for Lipo's & possibly even for a lighter lower weight limit then that will be the way to go but for most of the cars we have now the addition of ballast could be problematic & certainly isn't ideal!
i dunno where you'd add weight into a Pred! not really enough room as it is :eh?:

i think ull find the 2x3 layout is to gain maximum balance in a small area
not aimed at fun but serious racers that will run any layout as long as it better faster

hehe
you would have to be lol

showtime 06-02-2008 09:34 PM

at least i owned up LOL :)

the time has long since passed when you would be proud to buy british:thumbdown:

(thats not just RC but most things in general)

bigred5765 06-02-2008 09:41 PM

true, wonder why??
lets hope schuy are up to it then
if past history is owt to go buy they should kick ass

you didn't understand what I wrote... don't you know that the BX ist a saddle pack car? and I can put in saddle lipos...

But I don't want to argue with you, for me it's an disadvantage not to
be able to put lipos in it... if you think it's an advantage, that's fine.

still I'm eager to see pics of the car and I'm happy that there are so many new 4WD cars

some years ago there were hardly cars available

Lee 06-02-2008 10:03 PM

Schumacher know that they will sell 95% of their cars in the UK so it is in their interest to build for the uk market. Lipos are not legal here for another 12mths minimum and schumacher also distribute lipos now so im sure they could have some made to fit if they really wanted too;)

MattW 06-02-2008 11:00 PM

Don't assume anything!!! Have you seen it confirmed that it is 4+2 NiMh only and LiPo can't be fitted??

I'm not going to confirm any details either way, as like Chris has said details are being kept under wraps. Wait till things are announced, then all should become clear.:woot:

Anything is possible, there are people that have put stick pack LiPo's in xx4!!!

bigred5765 06-02-2008 11:13 PM
