Hi Buggy Racers!! I would really appreciate your opinion on this idea. To be honest even if I get 5 of you say do it we probably will as I myself want to race my Durango in this format and my vintage Sand Scorcher. I think it will be a good laugh. Shall we do it or not? Short Course will end up as total carnage i'm sure :-)

Thoughts please :-)

I've got no problem with the lack of jumps, etc, but imo foams and additives are a huge no-no. They're buggys, not touringcars!

Frecklychimp 02-09-2011 03:16 AM

Another no from me i'm afraid John,

Dates clash with other 'proper' offroad series' in the midlands throughout winter, so not even tempted

plus i didn't particularly like buggys on foams 15yrs ago... did bring back memories for a second... but not favourite racing ones!

too much of a comprimise with massive set up differences and faffing about glueing and trueing plus getting additive set up right!

do foams exist for buggys anymore?

Best of luck with it though

super__dan 02-09-2011 07:24 AM

I'd also be a no.

James 02-09-2011 07:34 AM

It'd be a no from me too, sorry. It was quite a commitment to be competitive there last year as practice was open on saturday afternoon so most of them i stayed in a hotel too.. I wouldn't do that for just a flat track on foams. :(

wacattack 02-09-2011 08:13 AM

I think you have lost sight of what 1/10th offroad is all about. In my opinion, if we wanted to race on a flat surface, we would race touring cars.

Bungleaio 02-09-2011 08:16 AM

I'm afraid I would also be a no.

RogerM 02-09-2011 08:22 AM

As you will remember I was very enthusiastic about your off-road series last year because you built nice tracks to race on with good drivable features on a good surface with a large area (the only place I could find last year where all of that was true). It allowed me to work out some setup changes etc. which helped this year and was really looking forward to running at your venue again this year.

I am afraid though that I would rather go to my local TC club with my TF6 than travel getting on for 2 hours to run a buggy on foams, sorry.

I hope you do an off-road series, even a single event, and I will be there!

lotussmart 02-09-2011 10:22 AM

Cool guys, appreciate the feedback, keep it coming and i'll make a choice early next week. There will be a buggy event at Ardent this year but will most likely be a weekender rather than a series. Good feedback though so thanks :-)

Dudders 02-09-2011 10:46 AM

Wouldnt partake due to the use of foam's and additives (costs). You dont need to have mega jumps and ramps, just 2 or three would do ;). Simple set tyre would suffice.

AntH 02-09-2011 04:14 PM

Shame, I was hoping for same as last year. Not a good idea, sorry.

i think that a bit harsh,i dont think he has lost sight,he is giving people the choice,i wont be up for it but thanks for throwing the idea out there:thumbsup:

Chippyjon 02-09-2011 04:59 PM

i would love to give this a go but were is the best place to get the foams and tyre additive from and i know aleast 3 more that would up for it aswell

lotussmart 02-09-2011 05:06 PM

Don't worry, i'm not taking any comment to heart, just throwing the idea out there to see if/what sticks. It will be like Marmite to most people, either love it or hate it. It will bring back a lot of memories running buggies on foams, just wish you could still buy tracktight :-) That smell will take me back to 1989 in an instant :-)

Keep the comments coming, good or bad :-)

If we go ahead these will be sourced for you in advance. ;-) Cheers Chippyjon.

john, technically, you might still be able to - it is still theoretically available, just under a different name, from a different supplier ;)

jayst 02-09-2011 06:51 PM

im a maybe but last time i ran foams on my durango it ate them and the chassis was comin off over 200 degs

chris68nufc 02-09-2011 07:37 PM

I did one of the rounds last year in the coldest ever conditions, enjoyed it in a way but would never go for a flat track! Had nothing but bother with mega interference, wrecked my day and the poor Marshall on the jump at the end of the track! Kept jumping into him mid glitch:confused:

There's too many good winter rounds to go to IMO

captainlip 02-09-2011 08:19 PM

A big no from me

telboy 02-09-2011 08:30 PM

Sorry John, Its a no from me too. Off road to me means jumps and obstacles. As said before, if I wanted to run foams on a flat track I'd be coming to your TC meetings.

What happened to getting the dirt track up and running next door?

shanks 02-09-2011 08:33 PM

I rek it's a good idea

Give you chance to see what buggies can go like set up as the man says and on a flat carpet track

I've had a quick bash before at ardent with a lazer and some home made foams (which were pretty poor)

Even still was good - the car cornered far quicker than on an off road track (obviously) and it's different not having to deal with inconsistent surfaces, more chance to concentrate on lines and throttle/brake control

shanks 02-09-2011 08:35 PM

A lot of indoor tracks aren't exactly off road anyway, carpet with jumps and bits of plastic often

I'd like to see you get a touring car or 1/12th pan car around Worksop indoor masters tracks quicker than a 1/10th buggy :p

I'd like to see you get a 1/10th buggy over the shit my HPI baja 5sc can get over but proves little

Indoors ain't pure off road

Long story, has to do with me negotiating too well on the unit we are currently in, would he let me have a second before I pay full whack for the first :-) He went for it at first, then when he looked into how much it would cost him to store the stuff that was already in there he came back to me with some figures. I've tried to get sponsorship money to help bring it forward but after Moto Arena nobody is taking the risk. So have to wait until we have all the revenues from this Winter's on-road series.

MRD 03-09-2011 08:00 AM

The major problem I can see is that very high speed + hard plastic edging = lots of broken wishbones.

When we did the 24hr the cars only had a 20t saturn, protective shell and a bumper, but we still smashed hubs and carriers ect. Now imagine that with high speed motors, exposed wheels and no bumpers :o.

I know we had the petit rc race there with a similar layout but the speeds were lowered by the obsticals.

Sc trucks might be ok but the problem I had running on high grip was grip roll. Even if you slam it to the deck the weight of the shell alone is probably enough to tip it. I'd like to try it on kit tyres where there might be some give but on foams I recon it would be a nightmare.

I love the out of the box thinking tho

lotussmart 03-09-2011 06:41 PM

Cheers Dude ;-)

Freakypen 03-09-2011 08:05 PM

It would be a defo no from me too I'm afraid-

The reason I race offroad is for the challenge of multi surface/jumps etc, Main reason I dislike tourers is the foam/additive issue-therefore wouldnt entertain the idea at all.
Shame-as the durango winter series was wicked last year in a brill venue-despite being -20 at one of them haha!!

Gd luck

Thats a shame. Was looking forward to what could be done.
Keep working at it though, you never know.
The moto arena thing is going to be silent deterrent for investors though, just like you say. :(
Pretty sure that the turn out would be good though if it came off. :)
