Vintage Series 2011/2012 ??????

I know its a bit early yet, but was just wondering if we were gonna be able to play with our 20 year old buggys for a few months over the coming Winter/Spring? Thought it was a great laugh last year:thumbsup:

JACKOR33 31-08-2011 08:58 PM

I'm up for some more vintage fun:thumbsup:
I do need a new vintage car tho as i sold the trusty firedragon!!

Suggestions please:D

peetbee 31-08-2011 09:30 PM

Dave, no you didn't? How could you?!

Yes there will be another series, just haven't organised it yet.
How about the 1st Friday in the month - making round 1 the 7th of October
6 rounds, best 4 to count.

Caine 31-08-2011 09:37 PM

She was an untamed beast dave, shame :(

Any chance we could start november again, goin away beginning of october.
Pretty Pretty Please Pete?:D

I dont think she woulda taken another season on 10.5 and lipo power anyways tbh, there were stress marks around a number of gearbox casing areas lol

I vote novemeber aswell gives me a chance to get a new beast

Belsten 31-08-2011 09:58 PM

I hope there will be another series, ive got 1 or 2 new purchases I need to test out, when I get them ready that is

Caine 01-09-2011 05:37 PM

What you been buying now dave? I'm stiil itching to see the yokomo:wub

Dyna 01-09-2011 05:47 PM

Which Yoke though, thats the question...

Dave is now officially ' Mr Yokomo ' :woot:

Belsten 01-09-2011 07:09 PM

Ive got a few now but still need another couple :woot:
I will be running a yoke at the 1st round

brian s 01-09-2011 07:45 PM

looking forward to running vintage again, how about the last friday of the month starting october ?.

JACKOR33 05-09-2011 11:10 AM

Got myself a pair of manta ray's nice and cheap for the vintage series, now do i run the same 10.5 brushless setup the firedragon had in it:drool:

Anyone know if i can run std 12mm hex wheels on it?

looking forward to dicing with peetbee again for 2nd place honours:woot:

Yes and yes, 10.5 will be fine, although i'm aiming for a 8.5 this year in the Egress... i need speed to make up for the handling... if the gearbox will take it.... and any old Tamiya/Kyosho hex wheel will fit the Manta Ray, although the Kyosho's push out the width a wee bit so if you win we would have to disqualify you for a too-wide car

peetbee 05-09-2011 01:22 PM

I think we're going for the 1st Friday in every month starting in November.
Hopefully enough time for me finish sorting out my Lazer!

Good to hear that you've got a proper buggy tho Dave, somehow I don't think I'll be able to beat you this year now

so is everyone happy for the following dates:
4th November
2nd December
6th January
3rd February
2nd March
6th April

Dependent on how many racers we have, you may or may not be able to run in other classes on vintage nights - I'd like to maintain a minimum of 3 rounds of qually plus finals. If we have too many heats it makes it difficult to achieve. Hope you all understand and are happy with this?

Caine 05-09-2011 04:14 PM

Fine by me

chris-on-wheels 05-09-2011 05:16 PM

I'm up for some vintage racing> Very happy with these dates

Teaboy 05-09-2011 05:33 PM

Work should have clamed down by then i hope getting withdrawl symtoms at the moment. My Cat XLS is nearly ready but im missing a few bits so if anyone has some early cat bits let me know. My PB mustang is miles away but i hope to get one race in with it at least.

Cheers

Rich

brian s 06-09-2011 06:04 PM

what bits are you missing.

Teaboy 07-09-2011 05:15 AM

Hi Brian,

I am missing a wing mount and the plastic mounts, and also the sevro mounts, the one from the front especially im trying to make up the rear ones.

Cheers

Rich

brian s 07-09-2011 11:09 AM

when you say wing mounts, do you mean the uprights from the shock tower and the buttons that go in the wing?.

pugboy 07-09-2011 11:18 AM

Slightly off topic but do any of you vintage racers know of anyone who manufactures belts that could be used on a vintage car? I am after some spares for the Tomy Intruder as think they may well just break as soon as i use it as it has been in the cellar for over a decade.

Thanks in advance,

Chris R

Paul Field 07-09-2011 12:10 PM

Hi We have a vintage class at our xmas meeting.
We also allow re-released vintage Tamiya's. If i came up to race could i race my re-released Frog?

Cheers

Paul

Dyna 07-09-2011 12:25 PM

Yes !!

Re-re's are fine as long as its almost based on the original ( Re-re Holiday Buggy for instance.. not exactly vintage that one :D ), a Frog running would be ace !!

Pugboy ( Chris isnt it ? I brought your old Sanwa receivers off you a couple of years back... ) try these guys on Ebay -

I cant remember what pitch your belts are, but most rubber belts are still available somewhere in the world in various lengths - if they are slightly too long just add in a discreet belt tensioner :)

Find out the belt pitch for me and ill do some digging for you if you cant find them :)

Hi Paul, yes re-releases are more than welcome although as Matt, says only real ones, the Holiday Buggy is most definitely not a proper rerelease!
Also welcome would be Hotshot, Boomerang, fast attack vehicle & Buggy Champ!

Dyna 07-09-2011 01:25 PM

It would be great to see a Hotshot or Supershot running in the series

It was one car i always wanted as a kid but never had... even now i dont have one in my collection...

JACKOR33 07-09-2011 01:36 PM

Mat,
got any setup tips for my Manta ray please?

Cheers

Dave

Dyna 07-09-2011 01:54 PM

Ill dig out the old TRF Top Force set ups i used for the last couple of years Dave - if you remember the old Top Force ran quite well even in my hands :)

I remember springs i changed to use standard Top Force rears, with Silver Associated fronts - i couldnt track down a Short Hi-Cap tuning set so was forced to use Associateds, which luckily fit fine :)

One thing you really should get though, and i use - the alloy motor mount ( increases much needed motor cooling and allows an extra small pinion to be used ) and the 5 degree optional front hubs ( alloy again ) to gain some extra steering.

It is a very forgiving car to drive though, you'll love it :)

Oh yeah I remember that, cheers for the advice, I'll try and find out the pitch and length and see if there is something out there. The layout and pitch/pulley size looks similar to a yokomo yz 870c that I had before the tomy but would have to check to be sure.

Cheers

Chris

liam 09-09-2011 02:46 PM

I'm running another top level vintage buggy this year...... a tamiya manta ray:woot:

Belsten 15-09-2011 08:20 AM

I will be running a few different cars, mid, xls & yoke for sure

peetbee 15-09-2011 09:54 AM

So, in total we have:

Matt L - Egress/Top Force (when Egress breaks?!)
Dave J - Manta Ray
Pete B - Lazer ZX
Bryan - Jrx Pro Se
Martyn - Losi XX
Dave B - Optima Mid/Cat xls/Yokomo Dogfighter/???
Paul K - RC10
Mike B - RC10
Liam - Cougar 2
Phil C - RC10/Losi XX
Rich - Cat xls/PB Mustang (both parts dependent!)
Chris - ???
Paul F - Frog
Maggsy - Jrx Pro

In that list are:
2 x Kyosho
3 x Schumacher
1 x PB (how cool would that be:wub)
3 x Associated
4 x Losi
4 x Tamiya
1 x Yokomo

Interesting

Dyna 15-09-2011 10:44 AM

That's a nice mix tbh - with respect to all our cars, the PB Mustang is definitely the pick of the bunch for me ! To see one of those running again would be ace :)

I thought Dave B had a Mustang as well though... are you going to run that Dave or is it too mint ?

Belsten 15-09-2011 10:48 AM

I thought about it but I dont really want to run any of the pb's for fear of breaking something

GRIFF55 15-09-2011 10:58 AM

Softy!
When would this be?? Might have to get building...........;)

Dyna 15-09-2011 11:06 AM

Naaa thats fair enough Dave, parts arent exactly easy to come by for PB minters !

These are the dates Pete's come up with for the vintage series -

4th November
2nd December
6th January
3rd February
2nd March
6th April

Plenty of time for you to get one of your collection going Andy !

Ill be running the Egress, Top Force and possibly the Super Astute - it means i can keep changing wheels from car to the other to save on tyres !

GRIFF55 15-09-2011 11:09 AM

Wouldn't a heat of re re sand scorchers or fav's look awesome!
I can't believe there is a tamiya not in your collection:woot:

Dyna 15-09-2011 11:25 AM

Ohhhh Mr Griff you are mistaken.... i DO have a original Rough Rider in my collection.... and a few other cars ive forgotton about :p

I did think about running it for about 3 seconds, then decided i couldnt be arsed rebuilding it to do so
