rb5 mid carbon prototype
this is a mid conversion based on the MCS
chassis is 9mm longer. cheap cutting but good enough for prototypes... now i'm waiting for the alloy gearboxes and other pieces like motor plates... https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._7922917_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3336703_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...1_381741_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._5801609_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...6_369792_n.jpg now i can update the pieces to change some details : -chassis design to fit perfectly the Vega body (but i'll try others before) -battery strap (if the motor touch the right one when on the motor-plate+bigger holes) -rear shocks tower to be used with or without arm holder (like MCS or like Vega) .... |
Looking very nice. What does it drive like?

but we think very good. like an C4.1?! :D it's gonna be reversible (usable with the Kyosho gearbox/rear motor). so, it seems that the first tests will be with the rear motor configuration. this is some low-cost prototypes we'll run for tests in races, on different surfaces. we're located in France, where are many dirty/bumpy tracks, often shared with/destructed by 1/8. that's why we do this longer chassis. also, lighter than the MCS, reversible and cheaper for us. 60€/carbone kit. it need few other pieces we're doing, step by step... more pics when the rear motor configuration will be finished, or if the alloy gearbox is ready. |
4.30 AM... time is going fast when you work with passion:bored:
the rear motor configuration, not finished. long pack and T-saddle are able too. the ESC is a fake (burnt), it's just to show one of the configuration. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6583108_n.jpg |
rear motor RT5 configuration.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._6176828_n.jpg i'll design some new shocks towers, specially the rear for the mid version. i'm still waiting for the mid alloy gearboxes... |
Will you gearbox fit in the normal MCS?
|

i do that for my MCS first. that's the most difficult step. then i've asked myself for doing other kits for friends & me... |
first test on sleepy track (wet outdoor-carpet) with the rear motor configuration :
i can't believe how easy-to-drive it was!! with the stock RB5 SP set-up (realy close) the (old) body is a Proline for RB5 (vortex!?) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...36390071_n.jpg i love it :wub https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...71717206_n.jpg now, few days before the mid-gearbox, it's hard to wait sometime... |
rear-motor dirt/dust tests :
we try it @ the older club in France. this one (but dry today) : http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._1389464_n.jpg it was very impressive, easy AND fast! i can't wait for an indoor race to test the mid configuration! (but i will, till the gearbox is not ready, lol!) next step : races... bye! |
Video please!
Car looks great, Sam. |
RB5 (rear motor)

hello,
two cars are running on the rear-motor configuration. we have a race this week-end, so it's gonna be the first real test. (I've made a race before but not prepared and totaly failed) the Small alloy columns are under construction and i wait for an estimate of the carbon parts. so the rear version will be soon available. but... it's "carpet time" and the first goal is a mid version. I'm waiting for the mid-gearbox, I depend of the manufacturer(s). the motor-plate is under construction. i must also resolve the problem of small alloy parts (like back reinforcement supports) i keep in touch... |
mid motor is the only way to go!
watch coleman he will be getting itchy fingers with his money with all that carbon flying about. |

keep updating us on your progress here..... |

this week-end it's an indoor race with carpet track. and some good drivers. it's gonna be difficult with the rear motor and the long wheel base (yes, it did, for both rear and mid position : +9mm) but we'll try to be not ridiculous. i have the first motor-plate in my hands : 3mm/14g and fit well on the MCS. and the carbon manufacturer is chosen. it will be made in U.K.  bye! |

Arnaud Vialle and is prototype, 2nd at Bosdarros for is first 4x2 race!
he already love it! https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...59683344_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...05448850_n.jpg MCS gearbox received : one proto can run on mid motor for the "Coupe des Champions" in two weeks. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...51407585_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...62859412_n.jpg |

Arnaud has just cutted some spikes on the tyres and never touch again is car all the day! i've just changed the springs, cutted spikes and 'open' (did you say that in english?) the front wheels. then, they could be faster with a little work, i think! :D prototypes made good impression with the other drivers on the track, some are interested and are waiting for the production. for the carpet we've moved forward the saddle (14mm) and it's working great. I am impatient to see the mid competing! for the expectations : in fact it was the first Arnaud's 2wd race and i know he's a good driver but I didn't have expected this! There is always good local drivers in this race and it's for it that we've made the trip. the best place i've made at this area was 4th (with the MCS, in february) and i do the same with the rear motor. i'm simply surprised. :D i've seen someone filming a final , i hope i can find the vid'... the next round is a national one. i know that 4wd are full and 2wd almost. so, a lot of people expected. I'm under pressure... but what can happen?! rock'n'roll!! bye! |

carbon pieces will be made in a few weeks, & by Atomic Carbon!
columns : 2,9gr/pc motor plates : 14gr/pc https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...90669774_n.jpg |
good one for your there Sam, to have gotten f*&%king OldTimer to do your carbon parts....quality of his work cant be doubted.

the best way for quality carbon, serious work & money too! big thanks to them! i'm ready for Loos, near Belgium, with a Vega shell : https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...47322881_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...87276300_n.jpg i like the differents bodies it can fit with. perhaps our own models if we work well, but it's a new domain for us. the last part will be the gearbox i think, but because I try to do it in France :bored: it's not the best country for creations... except if you've got a lot of time and money to spend! :D an address for a good CNC in U.K.? Team Xtrem? lol! i'm joking but in fact if someone knows a good one, I take! nothing's impossible here but I think that's better in U.K., for exemple  bye! |

Hi,
I think I've found a manufacturer  perhaps gearboxes will be available in one month. I wait 10 days for the 3D printed prototype. another shell, the Puma by FTW (Cougar's body) : https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...13327844_n.jpg I like the different bodies it can be fitted. the one I prefere is the Bulldog (rear motor). why not ask Proline if they're interested (or think about) to make a Bulldog shell for the Cougar (thus mine too!! :D) bye! |
results of the week-end at the Coupe des Champions (Neuville, France)
JC & me : Q26 & 28. final : 28 & 27 (our goal was C final, done!) Arnaud : Q18, final : 18! first national race and first run with the kit for JC. on mine, i've just change the rear tires this week-end. nothing else since the last race for this car, 2 weeks ago! second 2wd race and first run with the mid prototype for Arnaud with great laps! he broke a rear wheel shaft in Q 4th , the only problem of the WE for the team. Arnaud's mid https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...93627490_n.jpg Jean-Christophe's rear motor https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...03880960_n.jpg mine https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...15223604_n.jpg and the last news : if i can find funds for the mould, the gearbox could be made in magnesium! the prototype arrives on wednesday. |
JC's and your rear motor chassis is more interesting....with that undertray fitted, which bodyshell currently on the market fits nicely to that tray? so any idea how much this rear motor chassis's gonna costs us? thanks sam...

I've calculated 139€+shipping for the "FT rear motor basic" first... but now, I know that I'm going to sell it 125€ + shipping ;) we use the Cougar undertray (with special cuts) and many RB5 bodies fit it well for exemple. the one i prefer is the Proline RB5 Bulldog! we fix it with scratch and/or with the rear saddle clips. I still have a Proline Vortex too (no more produced) with the mid, all Cougar's bodies are good but need the undertray to fit well : Phat bodies, FTW, ... and perhaps a Bulldog one in 2012!? and for MCS owners : the frame can receive the MCS gearbox, it's only missing the two reinforcement holders to complete it I will made a 'special tips page' with pictures in few days to show all what is possible with this fantastic kit ;) have a good day, bye! |
the prototype is arrived, the gearbox will be nice...
