Wrexham Model Car Club - Indoor buggy club night

Here at Wrexham Model Car Club we are moving towards providing a club which caters for as many differnt classes of RC racing as possible.

We are currently building an off road track on our site in Wrexham which is due for completion in May. In the mean time we are starting an indoor buggy club night starting from the 20th Feb. I have been busy building jumps and ramps for this new track and its starting to take shape.

So here's whats happening:

When - Every Wednesday starting Wednesday 20th Feb 2008
Location - Wrexham Model Car Club
Classes - ANY!!!!!!!
Cost - £2 (First Night Free, so EVERYONE on the Wednesday races free!)
Catering - Cans, chocolate, crisps, tea & coffee all available

Their has been alot of interest in this at our club and we should have a good turn out.

All are welcome so please come along!! :)

Adrian Jones (Race Director)

franki 01-02-2008 01:09 PM

Thats fab!!!! will the out door track be avalable to test on (to members) once complete??

ashleyb4 01-02-2008 01:48 PM

we want a dirt track

A

Kopite 01-02-2008 02:16 PM

no no no, astro astro astro :)

k£v!n 01-02-2008 02:56 PM

I like the idea of a dirt track!

Kopite 01-02-2008 03:31 PM

i like the idea of a huge indoor arena, purpose built clay track, fit women rollerblading around the track at all times, and southern fried chicken stands trackside (will settle for a KFC).

wouldn't Astro be relatively cheap (i say relatively) and not too hard to source? What is the plan for the track anyway? If you need any labour, let us know :)

You up for a trip down Stan? What time does it start Adrian?

AdrianJones 02-02-2008 12:38 AM

Not sure what the outdoor track will be yet, I spoken with the members who are building it and their are up for a multi surface track including dirt, astro, etc. We are getting one of the members JCB onsite to landscape the track so it should be a multi level track and not just on one level.

The indoor track is well on its way to being completed. so far we have a small wall of death, a few small ramps, a medium ramp and we shall also hopefully be building a curved banked corner, and some corigated surface.

We are going to run it as a normal club night times so I shall be their from 5:30pm, racing starts at 7pm till 10pm depending on numbers and heats

We are going to run the normal 2WD and 4WD and any motors and batterys inc LiPo (normal precautions for LiPo though!!)

ashleyb4 02-02-2008 12:39 AM

Cool i hope to pop along one of these next few weeks havent been to wrexham in over 2 years now.

We have a few of our club members also interested so it should be a good night. Last time I counted their is about 6 maybe more from our club attending. I have the local hobby shops pushing the evening and they have not confirmed any numbers to me yet.

DONT FORGET THE FIRST NIGHT IS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I am going down again tonight to build some more ramps and also to have a play on my wall of death with the B4.........

Davidagriffinuk 04-02-2008 02:08 PM

Myself and my bro will try to get there as often as we can

RLGfx 04-02-2008 02:08 PM

steer clear of the curigated stuff, its either not noticable and not worth the effort to put in, or its so random its just rubbish to race with.

corigated surface adds nothing 'nice' to any track for 10th off-road.

everything else sounds brilliant!

try and add in some landing ramps too, lots of satisfaction gained from hitting a nice downramp when landing a jump.

Phil Channon 04-02-2008 03:16 PM

I will try and come down too.

Kopite 04-02-2008 03:23 PM

Brilliant news. Brilliant news.

I've been looking for something good to do mid-week and this will fit the bill nicely. Nice one!

I will certainly be venturing along...and I hope this becomes very popular.

Travelling from Warrington during rush our might be a problem...but I've done it before now with tourers so should be good!

Nice one.

Cheers for the advice about the corigated surface!!

this is a new venture for our club so the track and its obsticles are in development. So far we have the following

Wall of death
15" Ramp
Half Moon ramp
Corner ramp

To be developed :

another half moon ramp
curved banked wall of death corner unit
Table top
Rythm Section

Its all about getting time and materials. Anybody have any ideas and we would be more than happy to try them.

So far my list of people who said they will try and attend are :

Jamie B4
Matdodd
Stan (Matdodd's friend)
ashleyb4
franki
Davidagriffinuk + Brother
RLGfx
Kopite
andy05
Jamie B4
DaveG28
Fiddybux
Myself
Matt Brown
Adrian Prince
Steve Prince
Mark Poole
Steve Parker

plus anybody else who wants to come along!!

I was at the club tonight relaying the track in preperation for the 20th. We have a nice open flowing track which we can tweek on the night if people want to make changes. I would recommend a small pinion though as their are only 2/3 parts where you are going to be at full throttle at any point and for a brief period. Over the next few weeks I might extend the wall of death by making it double the height and a little wider.

franki 06-02-2008 04:46 PM

this will be fun not raced since may 2006 at the welsh GP!!!!!!

Are most using 2wd or 4wd what motors etc??

2WD for me (B4)

I know sounds daft but I am going to be running my 6.5 brushless and my LiPo battery. Tyres are going to be worn down Schumacher Mini pins.

Gonna run my 6.5 because its the slowest motor I got, 4.5 would be WAY to fast. I should be sensible and put a 19T in it instead but I aint got one!

franki 06-02-2008 06:41 PM

Think i may go down the 19turn road until i get the hang of things again!!!!!

And will be using my x11 i think as i dont have a 2wd :-(

Fiddybux 06-02-2008 09:24 PM

I'm considering using the 5.5 brushless in the X5 and gearing down for punch, but that will just make things super hot super quick...so I reckon I'll roll with a 10x2 or maybe 13x2 in the ZX-5.

Will be running worn yellow mini pins because I'm too tight to put a new set on after the Sunday prior to the Wednesday! Plus with the 4WD grip usually isn't so much of problem.

AdrianJones 08-02-2008 09:02 AM

just got confirmation from the school I work in that I can have 20 old crash matts for the clubs new track. Their not the blue type but are foam surfaces on both side, these should provide a nice feature on the track. I got 20 of them so we have lots of options!

Sion Wedley 08-02-2008 12:23 PM

I should be able to attend ade with my b4

thats providing the wife will let me :woot:

yeah thats the place, is till there.

ade is a teacher and was saying that the school that he works in has spare matts that we could use in the club for our track

AdrianJones 09-02-2008 09:19 AM

We are definatly still at our Wrexham site opposite Kellogs.

Just on my way to the club AGAIN all day as we are extending (IN EVERY WAY) our corner wall of death. Its gonna be huge!!!!!!!

Sion Wedley 09-02-2008 10:34 AM

Must say ade, i thoroughly enjoyed my self last night at wrexham

expecially in the finals, the jumps coming towards the rostrum were spot on and the wall of death straight after was ace

keep up the good work

AdrianJones 10-02-2008 10:43 PM

just come home from the club, been working there for the past two days on the ALL NEW banked corner wall of death, photos to follow in an hour!!

:EDIT

Here we go! ->

Going back their tomorrow to make some fine adjustments and finishing touches but I run my B4 round this and it is truly AWSOME! take it too low and it throws your car out of the corner at high speed so you get some speed coming off the ramp. Take it high and you get a satisfying wall ride! It needs widening another section on the down ramp which I am going to do tomorrow! You guys that are coming are gonna really REALLY love this feature!!!!

AdrianJones 10-02-2008 11:51 PM

Pictures posted! ENJOY!!!!
