Winter Racing

Hey everyone, we need ideas of what and were to run this winter. We already have some Losi micros in the club so running those is an obvious option. But we don't need to be limited to those. I have been looking at something a bit different - Mardave V12 Banger Racing. It looks pretty cheap to setup (apart from the lap counting as usual) and the cars themselves can be bought quite cheaply, could be a bit of a giggle.
What ever we do we also need some were to do it, suggestions on a postcard please.
Let me know your thoughts and suggestions so we can get something organised nice and early.

RCPhil 16-08-2011 11:30 AM

I like the idea of Losi Micro's.

We could set up a decent little track in a local community hall for small money.

This is only coz i want to get one anyway!!!!

Ianhunt 16-08-2011 04:22 PM

The mardave caterham looks great I will get one if I can race it

RCPhil 16-08-2011 04:31 PM

Ok, could be swayed.

What class of Mardave are we looking at Mr. Vandal?

staticvandal 16-08-2011 08:53 PM

I was thinking V12/Mini Stock. The Caterham is cool:cool: but you might want to think about a banger shell for it if we go oval track. I am happy to run Losi Micro as well, like I said, I would like to get everyone's input before we make any decisions.

Mash Potato 17-08-2011 09:29 AM

If you guys are running V12's I may be tempted to come along for a bit of a laugh.

TJP 19-08-2011 06:49 AM

Dear All,
Banger Racing looks great fun with the Mardave V12.
Count me in.
TJP

RCPhil 19-08-2011 09:27 AM

I'm thinking the same. The Mini's look good and don't break the bank either at about £60.

Mr. Vandal

When we've decided what formula we will go with do we have track material or should I start to look?

I take it we will require white painted 4x2 etc?

Ianhunt 21-08-2011 04:34 PM

V12 minis I'm up for that

staticvandal 22-08-2011 02:48 PM

track type is usually carpet, I guess with a similar feel to carpet tiles, can any one shed any more light on this?

Mash Potato 22-08-2011 04:09 PM

Prima Felt GT is the carpet most RC clubs race on.

Regards to the V12/1/10th/micro racing, might be worth doing a poll to see what is the most popular. For me personally 1/10th midweek racing would be very appealing, and V12's look like fun so I could be tempted there too. But Micro's don't interest me one bit.

Thanks Marc, I didnt even know you could run a poll on here. I have set the poll up.

Ianhunt 22-08-2011 06:54 PM

Are you going to put a closing date on this?

Ianhunt 22-08-2011 06:55 PM

Sorry just noticed there is one

neil_p 23-08-2011 03:38 PM

Hi lads, just moved to the area, I already race 1/10 electric off-road but if your going to be doing the losi micro's I'm defiantly up for that. At least the open wheeled losi' will be in with the theme you are going for with the 1/8 scale, just a shame I have sold all mine up.

mugenmark 24-08-2011 12:31 PM

maybe you got room to do bangers and 1/10th,the bangers just do a oval so do that last and use 1/10th for the rest of the evenings and 1/16th ,you can get cheap tamyia on ebay,we have alocal club they do 1/10th in the commiuty center, after you painted up the bangers,i,but will it be fun after 3 months?and you can use 1/10th on any carpark.

mugenmark 24-08-2011 12:35 PM

and why stop running on the track over winter?most clubs have a summer and winter season, yes a few get cancelled due to too much rain, but wet weather evens out the drivers,so what the reason you wouldnt use the track over winter?the indoor stuff as a 2nd meeting over winter?weekday evenings or sat sun day?if you got the hall for the day?you can run 10th and banger you got plenty of time.

mugenmark 24-08-2011 01:47 PM

theres the carpet tiles you need or used ones,,,,,,

Baztech 24-08-2011 10:01 PM

I like the idea of Micros and Bangers!

mugenmark 25-08-2011 08:35 AM

if you get 1/10 th off road it means you got track cars and a lot of people get 1/10th for xmas,so could pull in alot of new members, you would come to your outdoor track?and get the hants lots with there electrics down,1/10th electric use indoor and on the track,

shreksdisco 25-08-2011 10:22 AM

Bangers are great fun and very cheap i used to race them a couple of years ago so i will be up for it

Ianhunt 25-08-2011 01:30 PM

You don't NEED new cars, but the track won't be open when its covered in snow, under puddles/wet mud or dark, and as it will be going dark at around 1630, that means no evening running , and due to the nature of its surroundings it will also be closed during strong winds.
Besides its a good excuse to try something new and buy more toys:thumbsup:.

bat21 26-08-2011 07:48 PM

I vote for bangers great fun to be had by all
I,ll call mine pork and apple wots yours:p

RCPhil 02-09-2011 01:19 PM

Chaps

Can we decide how long we are going to run the poll?

I will need to save for any further RC vehicles and need a bit of notice.

If we are going for Mardave (gets my vote) can I suggest we go to one of the specialists like Mardavespares.com and negotiate a discount for multiple purchases?
If we are going for Mardave V12 are we going to allow upgrades or just "run what you bring"?

What thinks you all?

staticvandal 03-09-2011 04:44 PM

The poll has already got an end date. Hopefully RCS will be able to supply the Mardaves soon, failing that I have already negotiated a club discount direct from Mardave

staticvandal 14-09-2011 10:27 PM

I know the poll, still has a little time to run, but I think we are going to run Mardaves - Bangers and Hot Rods. I am very close to booking a hall and would like a little more input before we commit.

Can I have a show of hands for those that believe they will attend regularly one night a week.

Subs currently will be £6.00 for non members and £4.00 for paid members (membership is £43 inc BRCA or £30 without BRCA membership), juniors under 12 are £2.00 if accompanied by an adult racer.

Is everyone happy with early Sunday evening or would you prefer a week day evening?

Our new lap timing equipment will be used, so let me know asap how many transponders you will require. I will be placing an order on Friday. They will be around £20 each inc P&P.

V12 Banger and Hotrod kits and spares are now available from RCS, email or message me for kit specs if your interested.

The sooner I here back from everyone, the sooner I can get everything organised and we can be up and running. Thanks everyone.

RCPhil 16-09-2011 12:26 PM

Ian

As discussed, I'm up for Sundays as I can't get to any meeting in the week.

Please order me one transponder at the moment.

Racing on a sunday late afternoon / early evening could give us all a real opportunity to involve our young ones in what we do, making them the members of the future.

Running Mardave's is cheap, one class so any racing is down to the drivers ability, means we would race under cover in the winter months and can involve our families who are quite tolerant of the time that we put in to our hobby.

staticvandal 19-09-2011 02:59 PM

Bumpers or not to Bumpers

OK guys, Timing equipment ordered, transponders and hardware should be here within a week.
First batch of Mardaves ordered along with some spares and speed upgrades.

Question: I know that this goes against BRCA ruling, but would you prefer to run with or without bumpers?

Ianhunt 19-09-2011 08:38 PM

To be honest I don't mind

Davey 19-09-2011 10:59 PM

Cheers for getting orders in Ian.

Re bumpers - while I like the idea of knocking each other off the track I don't like the idea of actually damaging the cars more than can be helped. So I vote for protective bumpers being allowed as an option, providing we regulate dimensions and material to keep things fair.

RCPhil 20-09-2011 06:13 AM

I've already beefed up my shell with carbon fibre and titanium rod:thumbsup:s..Am I still ok to run?

RCPhil 20-09-2011 07:15 PM

LMAO!
I just mounted a very small Scud launcher under my shell. At the push of a button I can kill you all. Now for a test..........

staticvandal 21-09-2011 03:48 PM

Phil........Phil...... are you still their.
HMMPHHH! those ACME Scud missles aint what they used to be - meek meek

Davey 21-09-2011 06:54 PM

I got no scuds, I got no titanium rods, I got no concrete. I have got a couple of rather nice body shells arrived today along with a few spares... just need the car and I'm ready to go racing!

Now, how can I fit a taser gun to the roof of a 1/12th Austin Cambridge?

RCPhil 22-09-2011 12:52 PM

Davey, thats the best idea yet!!

I've now ordered the carpet. It will be arriving at my house, on a lerge pallet, on monday.
75 metres of yellow hose now ordered too.

I've had a new idea for the inside of the oval track and will be making a few parts over the next week. I'll post pictures once my construction is complete!!
