Oswestry National

For those who have never been to Oswestry before, the buggy club track is located on an ex-military training camp that is now used as a show ground. This is used every weekend for a variety of large events including agricultural shows, equestrian events, caravan club meets, country & westesn weekends, american car shows, etc, etc. Because of the type of events being held there they have recently converted one of the old army gyms into a fully furnished function room with bar, kicthen facilities etc that is now used for weddings, balls and the like.

So, to make the National weekend even more enjoyable for all those attending it has been the club's wish to make use of these facilities. Although, they have been planned for some time I am pleased to announce that the following have now been confirmed: -

- The function room bar is to be staffed and open from 7pm onwards on Saturday night to serve all racers and accompanying guests.

- At 8pm there is to be a 'Hog Roast' large BBQ event.

- To accompany the food and drink there will be a live band playing from 8pm to approx midnight.

ENJOY! :D

Abit of more information about the national! on our new Website.. Includes track layout for each day.. ;)

few more pictures i took..

Where the bar will be!
More Space
Even more space
A very tired Mower
Another pic of track and pitting space behind it!

jimmy 16-07-2006 10:34 PM

Paul Bradby won 2wd - awesome battle between cragg, bradby and lee martin. Ellis Stafford won 4wd though TQ man darren bloomfield looked faster than anyone.

here are a couple of mine for teasers... Thanks for the photo of my pred stu, it was fantastic, and thanks to nothy and jim for setting it up like - just a shame I managed to desolder it twice!! I never finished a run all day - even runnin my B4 (with 7x2 KR) in the final I desoldered ! I was dead last at the meeting! hell, even Bathy beat me. ;)

Oh aye and apart from my worst national result ever - Congrats to the Oswestry team on a fantastic job.
Jump was great, a real jump it was. And it really paid to hit the downslope especially in 2wd.

MikePimlott 16-07-2006 10:57 PM

WOOW is that Danny Mgee in half. Whats happened there then

jimmy 16-07-2006 11:02 PM

haha yea, he was ramping it big style off the huge jump, usually landing it... I think this time the car gave up though! Its part of a series of 3. Dont worry though, its not the only car in half I got on camera, got them on fire too.:D

MikePimlott 16-07-2006 11:04 PM

Cool Jimmy cant wait for photos, Seen one on smoke at Bury today aswell, The sun was just too much.

Chrislong 17-07-2006 07:37 AM

Stu Mahons was a dramatic one. Landed the jump from extreme height and landed, and quickly turned into a ball of smoke. Stu shouts "SOMEBODY TAKE THE SHELL OFF, ITS NEW!" I think that was the same race which Nathan Ralls destroyed his B4 too which was also rather impressive.

Chris

I did hear not long ago, that Air-Jordan had found G's jumping pictures and decided to improve his own as he was ashamed at how poor they look in comparison to the G-man..

I have your spoon in my tyre box, safe & sound.

WHITTLER555 17-07-2006 10:05 PM

Are we now going to see "jumping G" on other pictures as per Peter Crouch?

On a more boring note, sorry, I see elsewhere that the people in caravans who paid at the weekend funded the band!? I hope you all enjoyed it and I am glad I certainly got my money's worth!:D

Also interested to note that someone has said they were told free food for payers etc but this has been denied by Os rep as not so, good job the "spooners" went to our natural home.... WETHERSPOONS!!

I'll stop being boring now

NIGHT NIGHT!

Chrislong 17-07-2006 10:17 PM

Two words:
Monkey Trousers! :D

nick oliver 18-07-2006 06:25 PM

Hi, I can comfirm that the carvans didnt pay for the weekend at all!, The cost was there from Oswestry show ground committe cause they charge for carvans to stay, not us.. (i.e. its used most time of carvan site) I hope that clears few things up.

Nick;)

Quote from Neil Oliver on another forum:

"Thanks for the feedback so far. Regarding the hog roast, yes we were let down on the day and the guy who had been serving food all day stepped in to do the evening. We are sorry it was not as advertised. If anyone had said the caravans were free under any condition then that was wrong. We tried to offset the cost of the band versus what we took from caravans, in the end we made a loss on that part - but hey, you cant have everything!"

I don't mind paying at all as long as everyone else does, caravans and tents. None of the tents paid some of the caravans paid.

It is not the money just the principle:)

Northy 18-07-2006 08:07 PM

How much was the band!?!? :o

At £10 per van (2 nights) that's a lot for the band! :o Maybe we paid for the singers pies! :D

G

barnyard 18-07-2006 09:20 PM

why did Mossy and Jen get pies for their efforts as they were the only singers i heard all night

why the issue now its the same at tiverton and southport caravans pay tents dont nothing was said then and dont seem to remember any evening entertaiment at those 2 venues?, and as nick said it was'nt the club who made the charge but the show-ground. i think £10 for a weekend away is fair

matdodd 18-07-2006 11:24 PM

Well said Chris if you dont want to pay just get your self a tent :)
For a club holding there first national I think they did a very good job and have taken alot of sh*t.

WHITTLER555 18-07-2006 11:32 PM

At Tiverton, tents and caravans paid as we were in a tent this year and the farmer collects the money, can't remember if I paid at Southport.

It would help if any surcharges were mentioned in the info pack provided by each club when you get confirmation of entry to the Nationals.

Again, not the cost just the principle, not every caravan paid at OSW.

nick oliver 18-07-2006 11:58 PM

I pettry sure they said there will be charges in info pack for oswestry, i know not everyone paid last year at tivvy national, from what the farmer told me.. and this has prob carryed on to other nationals, im not blaming any other clubs tho!;) Its just like not everyone can be perfect, i know from oswestry national there were alot tired people from the club! and any volouteers, thanks. And i know this was not our most important thing to be thinking about the whole weekend, so i think were more nit picking more than anything, But i do understand your point very much:)

I know the club would like any ideas from people on track etc, and on weather we should put in for another national;)

Nick.

(i hope this has cleared things up abit, its just when you know how much hard work hardly many members have put in for the national, were like nit picking and when it has happened before, and you didnt get any enertianment, I don't mean this to pointed at anyone, or for them to take it the wrong way.. again hope this clears things up)

WHITTLER555 19-07-2006 03:49 PM

I definetley think you should put in for a National next year, although the track was all grass, the way it wore out meant for exiting racing and driving. The rostrum was a little low but those of us with a little lateral thinking stood on boxes to gain height.

The Nationals should represent all different types of track and yours was different compared to the more manufactured tracks, maybe a few smaller jumps could be added but by and large it was good.

Entertainment was an extra which we enjoyed, shame you were let down on the food side and we were mis-informed as to the nature of cost.

The venue and track are good, shame it was so hot or else we would not have had so many problems with heat related car issues.
:D

nick oliver 19-07-2006 05:09 PM

Thanks:) I know few ideas that club would wanna do if applyed for another, would more features in track.. and a higher rostrum as the main things Nick. Thanks any ideas;) would be great!

DCM 19-07-2006 05:45 PM

Move it down to South Wales so I can play.... no... oh well.... roflol
