Got my Demon power products 5000mah LIPO today it doesn't look attractive as the orion ones lol great price for a 5000mah lipo tho and it fit perfectly on my Durga. Gonna charge them up tonight and give a little blast tmr and see what happens:D

Is it hard cased how much was it????????????

The only downside is that they are only 20A discharge rate and not 25, wonder how much they differ.

wat is discharge rate? i don't think you need to discharge for lipo batteries do you?:confused:

No you dont, that is how much the battery can be drained by, the normal high powered RC car ones are around 25c (125A for this battery) but this being only 20c you can only drain 100A out of it in use so it potentially could limit accelaration ect.

Niether do i, its an awesome price but im not buying it till LiPo is legal for offroad as that pack wont fit in my TC without modification (which im not doing because my TC is new) so its not really worth it for me yet (need a balancer for my charger aswell).

i bet you will get awesome speed out it with only three wheels on your?:confused:

you dont need a balancer its not a nesecity, it just helps the life span, i know of a pack that did over 100 hard cycles and it took less than one min to balance back to original

i tried a 20c pack over my 30c and i did notice a lack of punch on high grip,

for a bit extra you can have 30C peak which is becoming the norm www.trakpower.co.uk

I have heard of not needing a balancer but im one for safety and my dad is VERY weary of LiPo's as it is, he's not going to let me near one if im not using a balancer :p

i got 2 of these but they are made by yuntong. they work very well and the 20c rate is ok since the mamba max is a 100amp esc and it wont allow more then 100 amps to go through to the motor. even with the 100amps and a novak 8.5 motor my car is very fast and powerful.

balancer does not make charging safer, a proper lipo charger does that

Really? sorry for going off topic but i thought it was vital to have a balancer. So my pro peak sigma that can charge LiPo would be fine charging at 1C?

yes your charger alone will be fine MAKE sure its on lipo mode is the most important thing, lipos go wrong when they are discharged too low, or over charged with the wrong charger

a balance just keeps the internal cells similar/the same in charge, as i said if you can afford one get one, but its not a necesity

LOL well spotted i was chnaging the supension ball on my car then my lipo came so i decided to leave it for now and have a mess around wth the lipo lol:D

i was told that lipos need to be balanced after about 6 months and even then its not that necessary. the orion and peak racing lipos dont need to be balanced at all.

all lipo will benifit from a balance at some point in thier life, i blalanced a orion 4800?? for a mate and it took over 10 mins after a years use! so they DO need balancing at some point

If i using the orion advantage charger do i stll need to use balancer?

I need help here, last night i was charging the lipo but i accidently touch the + wire on the battery to the - one then some spark came out. have i damaged the battery and what can i do:o? THX

uhm I do that all the time :p if it just touched & sparked and that was it - then it should be fine.

Sorry to restart a 'dead' thread but just a quickie about this.
Will it be beneficial to run a 25C battery even though the mamba will only allow 100amps?
Is it better that the battery has sommit in reserve and is not running at Max?
I've been running it occasionally on 3s 25C,even though a 6900 isn't supposed to ;), and it is awesome but for longevity will get a 2s lipo. This demon one looks good at a great price but just want to be sure abut performance

The amount of current rated in C from a bettery is the maximum limits it can supply without damaging itself. A 20C 5000mah can supply up to 100A max but remember that if you constantly pull 100A then the life span of the battery will be reduced. A 25C 5000mah can supply a maximum of 125A so if you continuously pull 100A you will not be at the batteries maximum limit so the battery will probably run cooler and have a longer charge/discharge life. It would be good if you could run a Watts up meter on the car whilst running to see how many amps you are pulling. Remember the same rules apply to the Speed Controller as it can supply 100A max if the motor demands. If the motor demands less than the max then the speedo will be efficient and run cooler. I doubt that your speedo will be running at that rate constantly.

These are 20c but also 30c burst, but no definition of what a burst is.

I'd guess that for our application that would be fine, if it takes 60 minutes to charge a 5000mah pack at 5 amps, if you were discharging at 100 amps the pack would dump in 3 minutes.

I'm sure there's more to it than how I've worked it out (inefficiencies ect) but I would think enen the most beastly 1:10th brushless systems would have trouble dumping a 5000mah pack in 3 minutes :o

The burst rating is usually the amount of current it can provide for a short period of time. Different manufacturers use different burst times but lets say a burst is 5 seconds then a 30C burst for a 5000mah cell would allow you to take 150A for 5 seconds without doing harm to the batteries. This is why it is important to really make sure that you are within the max constant C rating rather than the burst C rating so as not to reduce the life of the cells.

the maxamps 6000 mAh saddle pack is made out of 6 cells (2s3p) and you
can only balance the 2 cells that are in a row (sorry for my english).
Question is: how equal in quality are these 6 cells...

higher priced lipos are probably matched and don't need to be balanced as
often as unmatched less expensive packs

btw: I ordered a new charger: Schulze 6.30-5 plus (incl. balancer)

I think a 25C battery will have a lower internal resistance and hence lower voltage drop under load. This will equate to more punch but it is debateable whether we could make full use of the avaulable 'punch' of a 20C rated battery anyway.

I doubt it, the rating under disharge is more how robust the cell is under load and not it's IR

So in laymans terms, if this battery is rated at 100Amps/20c constant and the Maxx is rated to 100amps max then all should be groovy. I wouldn't see a performance improvement from a 25c constant battery because the maxx could pull the extra current anyway.

i am also looking for lipos (for a touring car) and i was wondering what are the best ones, i was actually checking out the trackpower ones (5400mah two cells) is it any good? and could one lipo (of 5400mah for instance) last 3 heats and 2 finals with a 27turn motor(5 min long each)????:confused::confused:

I would have thought that the main limitation to this type of battery would be heat (being made of plastic!). if you have two batteries, one at 20C and the other at 25C rating then, assuming similar materials of construction, they would both reach a similar maximum temperature after a full constant discharge at their C rating.

In both cases if the batteries reached the same temperature it would be due to the difference in IR.

You may be correct, DCM, in that if construction is significantly different higher temperatures may be tollerated. Any links for interest?

looking at the RRP price of the Trakpower charger and balancer they are pretty inexpensive @ £32.95 and £39.95. Compared with a decent NIMH charger discarger around £100?

Speaking personally less than £80 for the both seems good value and if they ensure longevity of the Lipo then must be the way forward.

i have the silent charger made by much moore racing, i think that will do lipos, so all i will need is to buy a cut off and mayber a balancer any suggestions as to which ones to buy????
