Winter Indoor National Series
Hi all,
I can't believe that we are talking about the indoors already - but there is something rattling round in my head and I want to see who's interested. I want to organise an indoor offroad series for the winter - maybe 4 rounds with 3 to count. Was thinking of 1 round in Fivemiletown (polished wood), 1 round in Craigavon (Astroturf) and 2 rounds in The Naul (carpet) with one of those rounds occuring during the Xmas GP. The spirit of the competition is to encourage racers from the DMCC and the other clubs to travel and experience new racing environments and hopefully (if successful) be used as a spring-board for a multi-venue outdoor series in 2012. We would need all of the clubs to make their venue available for the whole day on either a Saturday or Sunday. Maybe Ed Acheson and Jim Lee could give us their thoughts. Regards, Will |
Obviously I cant speak on behalf of the whole club but the feedback I got from the CVMCC members was that they really enjoyed the st.paddys day GP and would be interested in another similar event. I myself would be all for it, as it's a church hall sundays are out but most saturdays it should be possible to get the hall if it was booked well enough in advance.
|
Though my travel has been curtailed lately, and so missed the entire RCCAOI series, I'd do my best to attend such a series - I particularly enjoyed the time between heats on St. Paddy's Day, with no panic attacks from the McRae-enforced 5 second turnaround between heats!
It would be a mighty challenge, too, as the three venues couldn't be more different. It would be an excellent experience for a young cousin of mine, just starting out - I'd definitely bring him along. |
I would say you could safely count me out due to baby arriving and back to full time work.
I'll do what I can in the Naul but I would say they are going to be very few and very far between. |
Sounds like a good idea but as ever it would be down to a hand-full of people who would actually do any travelling. Best 3 of 4 rounds so the "border" would have be crossed at least once by each "side".....lol
I'd say CVMCC would host a round OK as the St Paddy's day race was really enjoyed by all and anyone who knows me would like to see it without any obstacles in the way of a quick track.....:p |
Id be totally up for this. I havent been over the border yet, and doing a championship rather than just the odd day here or there would give me a good reason to travel
|
Would be very interested in this from the Craigavon DIR Club point of view. Getting the hall for a Saturday should be no problem, and would be confident of at least a few of us who would travel to other rounds.
|
I would be interested in racing in a event like this. If the Dates suit i will travel for all of them.
|
Great Idea, count me in.

This could present a superb opportunity for the drivers who do travel to get a head start in the championship. I have to remind everyone that the championship final scores and awards will be based on your best three rounds from four. If you miss a round, you can't afford to have a bad days racing later in the year. |
Just to emphasise, for round 1 of the Irish Indoor National Series at Drop Inn Racing, Craigavon this Saturday 19th November:
( http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...5&ie=UTF8&z=16 ) Doors open at 9am, first heat at 10.30am. If you need any further info let me know and I will forward my Mobile Number. Thanks. |
I am hoping to be there for round 1.

It was a good event, Ed and the boys did a real good job of making sure everything ran smoothly. Everyone enjoyed the racing and the 'Craic' was good. Just a pity that no drivers from the south managed to make the trip, don't forget it's your best 3 scores from the 4 rounds to count. Will be interesting to see how well the other rounds are supported.
|
Great Job Ed, delighted that the series is now up and running. I apologise on behalf of all the southern racers for not attending - most wanted to go but couldnt, myself included, but unfortunately some just wouldnt make the effort or didnt want to participate.
I hope to arrange car pooling for the next northern round to aid attendence. We are all looking forward to round 2 on December 30th |

This is a very unfair and unhelpful comment. Part of my Saturday was taken up the collecting trophies for the RCCAOI membership. Another part was taken up with getting documentation ready for the RCCAOI AGM, which was on today. (Which was very poorly attended by the 1/10 electric section.) MiCk B. :-) |

We'll be seeing u up at the next northern round so |
Hi. I will attend what I can. But working nightshift rules me out more than i would like
I would have home but I was on my brothers stag (as I will be best man ) Here's hoping   |

You won't be seeing me at the next Northern round. As at any stage I never express any interest or commitment to this championship. MiCk B. :-) |

I also gave a short speech at half time in the proceedings regarding the Winter Race. I felt like a dickhead because no one from the south was there to support me in my efforts and you could see by the way everyone had that" Where the hell are they?" look on there faces that no one was interested. A mistake I wont be making again.

Many thanks for your support |
So tell me guys what possible influence would the drivers from the north have for travelling to Dublin to race ?!
The organiser of this event couldn't make it !!! So nobody goes ???? And on top of that what club would arrange a race day on the very same day as their governing body AGM ??? Very disgruntled with the setup of this winter national series. I felt bad for Ed who put alot of effort into making this happen at DIR and not getting supported and felt even worse for David Home ! Not good guys not good. Think of how this looks to the prospective racers coming to the Winter Race !! |

Colin you know me better than that chum. I'm not jumping in to anything. The RCCAOI had their AGM on Sunday yes ? Did the Dublin model car club have a race meeting on Sunday ?

Also: The national series is not a DMCC event but a collaboration between like minded individuals trying to further our hobby within the island of Ireland. Unfortunately the 19th turned out to be a bad date for alot of our guys but that is not a reflection on what may happen in other rounds. I would have loved to race on Saturday myself but couldn't due to work commitments. I really enjoy racing at craigavon and think its a great club hence why I have been known to drive up from South County Dublin on Wednesday nights whenever my work schedule allows. |
Normally their enthusiasm to travel ridiculous distances sets our Dublin colleagues apart - I'd just put Saturday down as one of those mathematically unlikely days where the unusual happened.
I'll happily take the undeserved points in the mod class - 2nd in 2wd and 3rd in 4wd despite being, to be frank, rubbish . One decent result in the Naul and a good performance in Fivemiletown (I got 3rd there in a small field on Paddy's Day thanks to Derek's speedo dieing) where not many people have driven a 2wd (it is NOT easy), and I'm in the mix! :woot: Need to fix the 4wd and learn how to drive the new 2wd, though.... |
