Winter Racing with SHRCCC (Updated)
Well, summer is well underway and what a few months it's been, from idea to a popular club within it seems a blink of an eye!.
Regularly getting mid 20's on a Tuesday night and Sunday's, it's been a real pleasure to meet some great people and watch some awesome racing, thanks for all your support  So, Winter will be with us in a few months and we'll need to kiss goodbye to Tuesday outdoor racing ... or will we? I have a few options for you all to consider: 1: Fitting stadium style lighting and continue to race outdoors under lights on grass. However, Winter wont be great for grass. 2: Maybe we should go Astro full track and forget grass? 3: Dont race under lights find a large indoor venue locally? 4: Shut down for Winter and keep the Club summer time only as there are other indoor clubs that run winter (Silverstone, RC & Taplow)? So, let's have a discussion about where we go and what we do  |
What about the hall where the track is ??
|
Not big enough, main room is only 11m x 25m which is too small for Off Road 1/10th. Already thought that. I guess it would do if a case of nowhere else, they've said I can have it. They do have storage space for jumps, ramps and carpet etc.
|
Flood lights & astro, can run all year round then
|
no brainer for me! astro and lights please, jon
|
Not sure what the answer is but I do know I'd like to keep racing over the winter. Also another circuit such as silverstone etc is nit really an option I'd concider. So, keep it local and I guess to do that astro is the way to go. Is there any chance of utilising a bit more of the waste ground at the far end to give a bit more space?
If you do go astro I know a man that can :-) |
Yes, we can go into the corner as much as we like.
|
Astro and lights! Clearing the end bit could be fun
|
I would favour indoors.
A consistent predictable surface that isn't weather dependent. |
Hum... I like the feel of the grass so am a bit loathed to lose it completely... How much effort do you think it would take to clear out that corner section more and set something up there for the astro track that also goes onto the 'normal' track for now? That way we can get astro and grass during the summer and then limit ourselves to 'just' the astro part over winter?
Or I reckon we could still get something interesting for the indoor hall there with the built in drivers rostrum already there...? |
We could do the hall, but it's really small. Maybe next week we'll nip in there for a proper look with a car?.
I have my eye on another place for indoors in the winter though. |
Sounds interesting...
For the small hall I was thinking of a few banked curves sections etc to try to maximise the space.. Would be small... but it'd only be for winter... But lets see what else you have in mind... The other option is that RC arena is only down the road for the indoor winter season. Still not tried it there yet, mean to, but just don't have enough spare hours at the moment! |
RC is Fridays the same as Taplow. I'd still like to stick to tuesday's tbh.
|
Ah, is this where Tony's midweek poll over in news section is coming from eh?!!!:p
I agree I like the tues set up... Lets try a few cars on tues in there maybe and see what else you have up yer sleeve! |

Got a few places scanned  |
Sounds good... (for me, hopefully no further 'south' as its already enough of a pain fighting thru' rushhour traffic to get there on time... but I'm just being selfish here!)
|
Astro and floodlights would be pretty groovy:thumbsup:
|
Guys, what about a small ON ROAD type track in the Cadet hall?, Ministox or Bangers etc? Might be a bit of a giggle!!
Leave the Sunday indoor meetings to the Bigger indoor clubs, Taplow, Silverstone, Maritime etc? |
I'd go indoors on a Tuesday night.
|
Just throwing something out there.. How about 18th scale buggies in the cadet hall? Maybe include Tamiya mini's and Mardave's too?
Check out High Wycome as they know how to make best use of a small space. http://www.wycomberacing.co.uk/ |
It wouldn't take long to clear that bottom bit of the site with a 4.5t mini digger at all. I could lay my hands on one for beer token money and diesel if you wanted it done!?
|
Happy to go with the flow just as long as we have some rc racing.
Indoors would be warm and dry..! Outdoors would simply be extreme..! :) |
What about the TA Hall in camberley. Big and I can't imagine that it will be expensive. What do you think?

Looking at it from my point of view (Long time on road racer, new to off road).
I have been to 3 different off road tracks in the last three weeks which obviously are all new to me. Eden Park, TORCH and Surrey and Hants. I have loved all of them, and the astro is great but I do love a Tuesday night at Surrey and Hants mainly because of the grass and I would hate to lose that USP that the club has. I think an indoor venue on a Tuesday night would be cool to keep the club going andto not lose the grass for summer. |
Hi Dudders, we plan to race Micro-T (and all variations) again this year indoors. You get a pretty good off road feel with the right surface and you would be surprised at how well they jump:o. You need very little room, but obviously the bigger the better. Loads of upgrade and setup options, and at only around £60 for a stock ready to roll it is accessable by most. Maybe we could do something together over the winter months and if the hall is big enough run some larger scales, too Losi also go 1:24 - 1:18 scale with shortcourse and Buggys available.
|
I used to run on a tiny indoor circuit with mods. I don't think the size really matters as long as it could be made interesting enough with you space you have.
How about a loop de loop? |
Find a good sized indoor venue if possible that's cheap to hire.
The idea of lights/astro is all very good but standing outside in the freezing cold will soon make the novelty of artificial lights soon wear off. |
ok ok ok ok... get the message!. Big indoor track for Off Road 1/10th. Leave it with me :thumbsup::thumbsup:
|
If you can get an indoor venue for racing 1/10th off road, theres a crew of us all looking for a winter club, we are all from West Wiltshire and would be looking at 8-10 of us making a trip on a sunday
So any news  |
TA CENTER CAMBERLEY.
|
Dudders, Any more thoughts/news on SHRCCC carrying on over winter, indoors (or out!)... Especially if RC arena 'are' suspending their friday nights and only concentrating on the winter series..?
Could be an opening for a club night, especially if Taplow are being a bit 'funny' about who qualifies for the apparent discount price (or not!)... |
All I know is that we ARE running over Winter....
How, where, when etc is all up to the gods.... |
LOL, thats good news at least!
When do you think you'll have a firmer idea of when, where etc? :p |

Hopefully a mere few weeks  |
Cool!
I'll (try to) hold off hassling you for an answer for a couple more weeks then!! |
