Cheers ash - you're the first one to mention the new photo 'thing' I've been using to display larger images. It's a PAIN to add, but if people like it I'll keep doing it.

ashleyb4 09-01-2008 01:39 AM

Sweet! I know you've heard this a thousand times but - Great review as always!
I think I'll sell my mini-T and get one of these so that the local Tamiya track will let me play with mini buggies again. Really love the real buggy look!

c0sie 09-01-2008 09:23 AM

Top review as always fella :)

frogger 09-01-2008 09:24 AM

Love it Jimmy, very good write up but you convinced me to buy one even before I saw this :D

The bank account hurts this morning!

veecee 11-01-2008 04:27 PM

Well done Jimmy, another great review. A couple of days left in HK - this calls for another trip to the rc shops! :D

Jimmy,
I've a question about the GB-02 Buggy Champ. Does it use different front wheels than the GB-01? I've looked through all the pictures and I didn't see any hexes, so I'm a bit worried about buying the wrong rims. Thanks.

frogger 31-01-2008 09:09 AM

They all use the same hex\rims :)

jimmy 31-01-2008 10:05 AM

the hexes on the front of the GB02 buggy champ are round instead of being hex shaped - since there's no 'drive' at the front it doesn't make a difference. The round 'hex' just fits inside the normal hex shape on the wheels.

sim 31-01-2008 10:14 AM

Ah, thanks. I can still swap wheels with the mini Hotshot when I get it later then. Sweet!

cherrypop 08-02-2008 03:59 PM

Fantastic

Love the review, as always.

The original Rough Rider was one of my first cars (I was really young), and remember it fondly.

What's up with the chrome rims. Have not seen those elsewhere. Hop up part, or sprayed?

Matthew

Top review :D

A question though. Where can i get this buggy from? (UK)
And the rest of the series. I was able to find some of the others
but not this one. :(

Most excellent review Jimmy. Prime source of information, and probably the best I've seen accross the net!

So, I have to ask. How is the car holding up for you now?
Any other recent mods? Any problems?

Are you still running the 6V Graupner Speed 300?

When purchasing the "SHORT" shock bodies for the aeration dampers, do you purchase two kit packages? On the package it says (2 Sets), but I can only see 2 bodies in there. So, that leads me to ask, did you put the short bodies only on the front shocks, or did you put short bodies on all four, including the rear??? Please let me know!

ShredSLED 08-12-2008 04:20 PM

...am I a little too late to an old forum? Tamtech gear simply a trend passed now? :o

Jamus 09-12-2008 02:37 AM

Sadly Tamtech's don't get much love except in Japan. I wish they did, I love mine.

jimmy 09-12-2008 10:20 AM

The short bodies are only used on the front - the rear uses the normal longer bodies. Not sure if Tamiya produce a proper set yet (short and long together) as it's been a while.
I sold my TamTechs - I just wasn't racing at the time, but I wish I hadn't sold the GB02 as it was a really nice buggy and I'd put a lot of love into it.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the reply.
No, I haven't seen an aeration kit yet that has the correct combination... :bored: But no worries now, I picked up the short bodies. Appreciate the tip.

Too bad you sold'em off, fun stuff!! :) I've had my GB02 well over a year now, and did actually lose interest at one point since then, but now I've got several friends who are getting into it because it's fairly cheap, and we're having a blast!

Jamus, I agree... doesn't seem to be much going on with these cars outside of Japan. And yeah, man, here there are some hardcore nuts over these cars. Some of the home-job mods and precise calculations on set-up are incredibly amazing here. I've found some great blogs on the GB03, but all in Nihon-go. Most people here are running custom dual front shock set-ups on the GB03 chassis but with regular GB01 bodies attached. Looks slick, and with 4WD.

yeah... most text is just very technical information...

Here is a quick photo. GB03 with hotshot body is his brother's. He cut and drilled and custom carbon fiber shock tower for the front, similar to GB01, not like on the "desert gator GB03" in the above links I posted, which was more of a stacked adapter type set-up.

...also wild boar rear tires, and I think 1/12 scale front tires/wheels... Looks fun. They apparantly ran these at the Tamiya outdoor track.... took a trip there or something.

sim 10-12-2008 01:42 PM

The Hotshot mod is a lot better looking :D

Jimmy, any chance you managed to snap a pic of your front suspension mod (moving the mounting points further back)?

jimmy 14-12-2008 05:07 PM

had a quick look and they're not in my buggy champ folder so either they're in some random folder somewhere or they're gone :( made me all sad looking thru my photos - it was too nice to sell

sim 16-12-2008 12:55 AM

 Sorry to put you through it. Hope you'll consider making another TTG review when and if Tamiya comes up with a new one.

Or even a boomerang or something would be cool! ;)

sim 16-12-2008 02:57 AM

Haha no idea. All I know is if it comes along and Jimmy gives it a thumbs up review, I'm going to be broke again.
